I’ve owned the reel from summer 2019 till now, and here are my thoughts. It’s an acceptable surf reel. It is easy to self service, it is light, shimano smooth, and aesthetically pleasing on a modern thin surf rod. It has acceptable drag power, and has hauled in 10+lb bluefish and striped bass with no problem. It doesn’t hold much line; 290yds of 30lb powerpro, which is shallow for a 6000 size reel, but from my understanding that’s how shimano reels compare to others. What I didn’t like was the fact that I found a lot of plastic parts in the reel. The handle wasn’t the best and the bail wire is flimsy. A serious bomb cast could trip the bail and you run the risk of cutting your line or losing your lure. The seal by the handle going into the housing assembly was, practically non existent, and this reel is only splash and spray resistant. A dunk should be remedied right away.I would’ve added a line catcher for easy storage, much more proper seals, and I would sacrifice the light weight for more metal parts. I’d change the design of the handle and make the spool larger to hold more line. I’d pair it with most 9’ rods, all 10’ers and even some lighter 11’ rods.

I have used this reel multiple times over the past few months after purchase for onshore surf fishing. So far no issues. I have the 6000 model and spooled with 30lb braid with an 8ft top shot. I have used this for both light and heavy presentation. It held up and preformed extremely well. No change in smoothness or stability. The reel is very light and comfortable but yet feels very strong and stable. One thing I want to mention is that handle in not a screw in like the higher end model Shimano reels. It is an older style where the handle shaft goes through the reel and locked in with a screw on the reel cap. Handle also doesn't fold and the line capacity is a little slim.I suggest backing this reel with Braid line and topping it with either mono or flouro. Despite that this reel is AWESOME! Would I buy another? The answer is absolutely!

Well here is a real review you can take to the bank . I am a offshore charter captain in SW Florida and I am on the water over 200 days a year with clients and I utilize the Socorro reels . My current ones are going on over a yr of hard use with 0 issues . This reel holds up better then the Stradic which is almost dbl the money . I run 30 lb braid with no issues un like someone said above . We pull up 15 lb Grouper and Red Snapper all day long with these reels .And have even caught a few sharks again with no issues . I will be purchasing another round of these in the near future . P.S. I am not sponsored by Shimano and pay the same price as everyone else so no Bias here .

I surf-perch here in Oregon. I've been rolled in the surf a couple of times. The reels has been dunked a few times (many). We always rinse our gear with fresh water. I have had no issues with this reel. I've been using this reel every weekend since I bought it. We only surf fish, it's a kick. GREAT REEL for Surf Perch.

Super smooth reel. Using to for salt water fishing specifically for snook and snapper. Quiet and smooth. Just the way it should be. Looks pretty strong and has been good during short first test. Bought new braid for it too and so far happy. Might post update review after

Great reel !!!!Wasn't sure about the big handle over long periods of time. But now the other ones feel too small. It's a shimano, so as usual, it's a smooth drag on a reel that gives me no problems. It actually makes me want to fish more. What more could I ask ??

Light and very smooth reel for being a 6000. First fish on it was a decent snook. Great price for the quality of reel you get. Can't go wrong with Shimano! Looking forward to catching some monsters on it paired with the trevala rod :)

Heavy duty for salt water. Feels really solid. I bought it for catfish, I think it might be a little overkill for that but I'd rather it be too large than too small. I would buy this again.

One of the smoothest spinning reels I’ve owned. Very robust and built like a tank. Love it.

Smooth as butter like Matts said (Fisherman's Life) only thing I dislike is the handle.
