Having never replaced a BB before, I was a little hesitant to tackle the job, however my old 1984 Raleigh Pro-Race had developed an ever-increasing wobble and, despite tightening it up twice before, it was on the way out. I had ordered replacement bearings and was going to refurb it, until I realised how cheap this BB was to get. Everyone in my cycling club recommended a sealed BB.Removal of the old Raleigh BB was straight forward, including cleaning the frame for the new sealed BB.Installation, as shown in my photos, was a piece of cake and took less than 10 minutes. The BB arrived without a box and the instructions were useless. Despite this, it was simply a case of threading the unit from the crank (right)side into the frame, with a little grease on the thread. That side does up anti-clockwise. Once tightened by an adjustable spanner, I switched over to the non-crank (left) side to do the same with the aluminium part, this time tightening clockwise (it was easier at this point to have the bike upside down). This took a little more effort to tighten, however it did get there by using the adjustable spanner again. Both sections were tightened sufficiently (without too much force) and flush to the frame. The BB comes with 2 bolts for re-installing the crankset. All done. It turns so much more smootly now and should give me years of hassle-free cycling. If my review has helped, along with the photos, please consider clicking the 'helpful' button below. My bottom bracket on my old Raleigh had given up the ghost after many years of faithful service. After looking round at all sorts of replacements and being totally confused by all the different types and sizes, I chose this one because the screw-in part that fits the left side was alloy, not plastic as a lot of them seem to be. After removing the old, loose ball-bearing one I fitted the new one and it fitted like a dream! The hardest part was remembering which bit had a left-hand thread! Total time taken for the job was about thirty minutes, including resetting the front mech. As another reviewer commented, it's not frictionless, but it's 100% better than my old one and seems to be getting better the more I use it.There are cheaper BBs out there and some dearer ones too, but I'm very pleased with this model and I'm looking forward to many more years use out of my old Raleigh now.

I bought this for daily commuting along a sandy, sea salt laden cycle route. The no-brand bottom bracket that came with the bike had developed play after about 3 years, so had to be replaced. So far the Shimano unit has remained as smooth as the day I installed it, and will probably remain that way for years to come, as the square taper type BBs usually outlast the Hollowtech external bearing BBs many times over.Used with a new Shimano Acera chainset, there are no creaks whatsoever. I recommend you fit Shimano to Shimano when it comes to chainsets and bottom brackets, to avoid the dreaded crank-creak problem.

I needed this for my wife's 35 year old Raleigh Wisp cycle, because the original bearing was beginning to creak. It arrived on time P&P foc; unfortunately the package contained a bicycle bell. A quick phone call and the correct item was despatched immediately. I had assumed, wrongly as it turned out, that the kit would include a pair of bolts to hold the cranks on; the original axle had male ends. Another quick phone call and these arrived foc the next day. I've not fitted it yet, but it feels very smooth running. P.S. I wasn't asked to return the bicycle bell.

Bought this to replace the original UN54 BB that came with my bike. To be honest it was still running perfectly after 7400 miles but for less than £20 thought it better to replace at a convenient time before any problems started. Hopefully this will perform as well!Delivery was fast and product as described. Slightly tighter fit than the original UN54 unit that was already in but ok with some elbow grease. Hopefully by the time this one needs replacing I'll have a new bike!

Excellent for the price, looks and feels high quality. The only difference between UN26 and UN55 is the material of the housing and the nut - steel+plastic in the former vs aluminium in the latter, which results in 50g weight difference. Two high tensile bolts for cranks are supplied. The job is easy, but you need three special tools: (1) a puller for removing the cranks, (2) a thin-walled 14mm socket for the crank bolt, and (3) a socket for the bottom bracket.

Used this BB to replace original on a Dahon D7 Speed. The original BB was not a sealed bearing. Although the bike was 5 years old it had hardly been ridden. After taking the pedals off and rotating the crank I was shocked as to how rough it felt. Rotating the Shimano BB after installation felt super smooth in comparison. It really transformed the bike. An upgrade well worth doing for the money.

Remembered these from when I was a teenager in the 90s and bought one to replace a non-cartridge style BB on my son's bike on which the bearings had collapsed on one side. After getting myself the right tools to remove the old one fitting the new replacement was a breeze. Smooth pedalling ever since. I can't wait for the BB on my bike to require a service now!!

This bottom bracket works great. I used it to replace an existing bottom bracket spindle (non cartridge) which was worn out. This has made a huge difference to the feel of the bike when pedalling. The installation is very straightforward especially since there is no need to tighten the bearings into place. The spindle moves nice and smoothly with zero play.

I replaced the half-open standard bearing arrangement with this sealed unit. I had quite some trouble working out which sealed unit would work in this bike. This product has replaced the standard component and has been running for many hundreds of miles. The pedals operate appreciably more smoothly. All issues of play and noise have been eliminated.

I replaced the bottom bracket on my mtb after it collapsed. This was the ideal replacement. It was delivered very quickly and it took no time to fit. When ordering you just have to measure the width of bike and axle to get correct size of bracket. It definitely feels a lot smoother than the last one. A very efficient service.

I purchased this for my old creaky bottom bracket that needed replacing badly. It done the job perfectly and my bike now runs better than ever. Easy to fit plus at a decent price, and I am a happy bunny. It came with the necessary crank bolts to keep the pedal arms on so don't bother ordering some, like I did! Good Stuff

Had to change the bottom bracket at two wheels this year, and decided to use this bearing. It makes a solid impression, I can not say anything about the durability. At my old wheels I had an axle length of 111.8mm measured, that now measures 113mm. Works fine, but a readjustment of the front derailleur was necessary.

I've had this on my bike now for the last 8,000km or thereabouts. It's much smoother than my previous bottom bracket...and shows no sign of degrading (I'm 95kg and work as a cycle courier; this BB has a tough life!).100% genuine part, and reasonably priced. Definitely recommended over all other square taper BB's

Having used Shimano UN54/55 bottom brackets for years, I have no reason to change. Yes, they are slightly flexy compared to the stiffest of the BB30 or other recent alternatives, but these go on for ages without replacement (or adjustment: they are sealed), so buy one and fit and forget for the next 3000+ miles.
