We purchased a set of the 28x2.35 tires for my Giant Talon 29er and a set of the 26x2.15 tires for my wife's Giant Revel. Both sets mounted without trouble. Note that the 28x2.35 on the rear doesn't have much clearance next to the front derailleur when I am in granny gear, maybe 1/4" or so, but it doesn't rub. All of the other tires have plenty of clearance. These tires are great for the riding that we do. When we purchased bikes we anticipated riding off the beaten path. That is not the case, as we most often find ourselves riding on the streets and local bike paths with a child trailer in tow. The rolling resistance and road vibration of the stock knobby tires was a major factor in our decision to swap out for something more suited to our needs. These are smooth riding tires that seemingly roll forever. We have yet to take them off-road. I suspect that they will leave us wanting in the traction department, but these tires were designed and purchased to be ridden primarily on-road.The 26x2.15 tires are mounted on a standard wide MTB rim. The 28x2.35 are mounted on a narrow rim, 19mm inner bead width if the resources that I've found are correct. Note that I did not measure this myself. Schwalbe's site (http://www.schwalbe.com/en/reifenmasse.html) indicates that a 19mm inner bead width rim is ok to use with the 60mm width tire. In forums it has been suggested that tire pressures not go to extreme highs or lows when mounting wide tires, such as the Big Apples, on narrow rims.Aesthetically, these tires look great on a mountain bike. The addition of the reflex stripe is welcome, as you can never be too visible while riding. We are currently running at around 45psi on all of the tires, but we will be going lower to see how it affects comfort, how the tires roll, etc. We will update further as we put more miles on these tires.Note: The 28x2.35 is listed as "Schwalbe Big Apple HS 430 Performance RaceGuard Cruiser Bicycle Tire - Wire Bead" whereas the 26x2.15 was listed as "Schwalbe Big Apple RaceGuard RLX Wire Bead." It would seem that this has been updated to reflect that both tires are the HS 430 Performance RaceGuard. Either way, both sets that shipped were the same tire, just in their respective sizing.

I've ridden over 3000 miles on these and I am starting to wonder if I will ever wear them out, seriously they look a little worn but no where near being ready to be replaced. They roll fast and corner great if you have them at an adequate pressure, if the pressure is too low they tend to squirm while taking corners fast. Also, be careful putting these on and make sure they have seated properly first, they came off once while I was pumping them up and my inner tube exploded so be careful (once you have some pressure in there this won't be a problem). In over 3000 miles I've only gotten one slow leak; it wasn't until I came out after work that I noticed it was flat.Although these will not stand up to knife punctures as my wife has so lovingly demonstrated with my first set of big apples... In her defense I deserved it.These do not do that well on single track, and if you plan on doing a significant amount of mountain biking with them I would take a look at the Mondial in stead. This isn't really a criticism because they were't designed for off-road use, just more of a user warning. That said, I've logged a lot of off road miles on these bad lads and enjoyed it, however I have also slid more than a few times on them as well. (I actually locked both wheels up on an especially gnarly decent and skidded then entire way down without falling over, so it can be done just be careful). All in all this is a great tire; they're tough as nails, they look great (if you're into that), and they have performed their intended purpose and then some.Update: About 5000 miles in now and they're still going strong, still only the one slow leak for the few years I have been commuting on these guys(I hate flats). I rode over some glass this morning on accident, no problem; I accidentally picked up some metal chips while riding around a machine shop a couple months back (bad idea BTW), and still no flats. I kinda wish they would just die already because I want an excuse for new tires..

I got these for my Diamond Back Overdrive 2012. It came with 2.2 29ers WTB knobies. I'm still confused 29er, and a 28x2.35 fits?. I'm a carpenter an inch can make quite a differance. First off I went to my local bike shop, wanting a tire similar in size (big and fat), sales person went to catalog. I think the best he could come up with was a 700x40 maybe 38, I was not impressed. He assured me a 700 was the same as a 29er. Doing the math it did not seem right, oh well. Found a size on my rim that said 700, hmmm. Anyhow 40 or 38 would not do. I came home start checking online Amazon had a 700x45, I found right away, I was getting warmer. Found other sizes 28 and 29 inches 2.0 and larger.I started studying reveiws and info., settled on this one. This tire mounted mesured 2.5" wide with calipers, stock tires 2.2 29ers mesured 2.8" hmmm, so no problem with frame clearance. Plus they fit my rims. Went for a 5 mile run, although my time did not improve, any better than my fastest, I did have a good time. I'm sure my times will improve, depending on how I am feeling. I mostly run on the streets, and don't do any daredevil stuff on the grass, dirt, and especially gravel. These are exactly what the doctor ordered. I would consider the 2.0 Schwable tires also. So with 5 miles so far I love these tires. Pumped right up to 55 (max), wanted that smooth as glass feel.

LOVE THEM....not just a little....ALOT!! On pavement and some hard pack they are awesome...like NO rolling resistance at ALL, especially when compared to the knobby tires I use, eventually, I will purchase a road bike (more likely a cross bike) and I won't need these. For right now though, it is literally like having TWO seperate bikes by just changing the tires out.0 of 1 found this review helpful....Hmmmmmm...how can I improve it?I have a Marin Alpine 29er hardtail, I use these tires for commuting into work and town..and have for a couple of years now. They have about 300-350 miles on them and show very little wear. Despite the look, they have pretty good wet traction and dry pavement is like riding on silk.I ride them at about 45-50 pounds of pressure and they absorb a lot of the road problems (bumps, cracks, etc.) Have taken curbs and pot holes without issue. I am 6.5 and 280lbs, a true Clyde, and they have held up beyond what I anticipated. I think the biggest PLUS to these tires is that I don't have to use my 60.00 (each) dirt tires on pavement!!If you have any questions...use the button, I will try to help. These are just GREAT tires for a 29er commuting set-up!

I purchased two sets; one for my wife's 29er (29X2.0) and a pair for my 29er (29X2.35). I love the look of them on the bike. It keeps the beefy look of the MTB tires minus the "nobbies". I took my bike out for a 5 mile test ride and so far I like the way they feel (it's been raining all week). I'm 6'3 and 235lbs and I aired the tires to 40 psi and they roll magnificently. These are not going to allow you to set any speed records, what they do offer is a smoother ride and a less cumbersome feel of the nobbies as they traverse across pavements, sidewalks, and curbs. I highly recommend these tires if you're using your bike for the urban treks and not off-roading. You can always switch back to the nobbies when you need them.I mentioned the "psi" because I feel like you need to adjust this according to your weight, etc...you don't want to under inflate your tires because it will make it feel like you still have the nobbies on and cause accelerated tire wear. I highly recommend them if your plans of use are similar to what I've discussed above. I hope this review helps the next person.

I loved these tires but they're prone to flats. I had a dozen flats last year no matter how much I tried to avoid them. The ride is smooth as silk, and the quietest tires I've ever rode on. The tire itself acts as a suspension, and has very little tread spacing. This translates to a buttery smooth ride and less rider fatigue overall. Contrarily if you're riding in wet conditions, these tires can slip very easily when cornering, even slightly. These tires lasted me a whole season and I didn't rotate them as I should have. I got about 5000km out of my rear tire and my front still looks like new. Over all, I highly recommend these tires for commuters or leisure riders. Not recommended for off road or gravel. If you found the information I covered in this review helpful, please click the "yes" button at the end of this review! I ride an MTB-type electric bike, but I don't do any mountain biking. Having survived two heart attacks and being at the latter end of my seventies, my interest is now purely in the fun, and the infinitely variable exercise levels, that an electric bike can provide. I swapped my bike's original knobbly MTB tyres for these balloon tyres, and it's the best thing I could have done. The results were instant. Their rolling resistance on smooth roads is a fraction of their predecessors'. They're smoother, faster, more comfortable, more responsive to effort and generally all-round more efficient and more enjoyable. They're easy to fit and they look good. And they'd do equally well on a conventional machine.I had some difficulty finding these tyres. None of the usual suspects seem to stock them, and only Amazon could provide them on demand, but they were well worth seeking out. They have literally changed my life.

This review won't cover durability, I've only just fitted them. What I'd like to say though, is that for commuting on a mountain bike these are wonderfully fast. I ride a 2012 Giant Talon 29er "0" back and forth to work (7 miles each way on the Taff Trail) and was using the Kenda Small Block 8 tyre, which were perfectly fine, but the difference after fitting the Big Apples is stunning. They roll very easily and still feel grippy despite the lack of tread even on loose gravel, I won't be taking them "off Road" I have a full suspension 26 inch bike for that, but I think you would be hard pressed to beat these tyres in an urban environment.Update:I have now done 1,500 miles on them in the last 3 months and have only had a single puncture (a very sharp metal shard)and there looks to be lots of wear left on them. I will definitely be buying another pair when these finally give out.

I ride these on my rigid singlespeed 29er in San Francisco and theyr'e fantastic city tires. Almost a year and no flats. Also the width makes riding over streetcar tracks an afterthought. If you run these with higher PSI they roll great. I'm usually coasting by road bikes in the city on them. They're also great if you want to bunny hop curbs and potholes and generally ride your city bike like an oversized BMX. I ride down stairs on these, go off small jumps, etc.The reflective strip on the sidewall is a nice tough too.If you don't need to gobble up potholes or streetcar tracks, and are just looking for a nice city tire, Schwalbe also makes similar tires that are smaller....and presumably quite a bit lighter. These guys are heavy, though you could splurge a bit for the Kevlar bead to lighten things.

Perfect match for my rear tyre..Laugh..I should have ordered a pair to start with...Dooooooo..!! For fitting....? When offered up to the rim you will think this tyre will never fit...lol. Just keep at it..It will fit honestly.. I found by slightly inflating the tube and fitting it inside the new tyre helped enormously...Also if you only have one pair of hands try electrical taping the tyre/tube around the rim a few times to roughly seat the bead...Do this in a few places working your way around the rim until the last bit of the tyre slips into place...Its fiddly I know but this fitment took me 3 minutes compared to half an hour fitting the last one until I worked it out...Plus...Look for therotational arrow when offering up the tyre to the rim...Terrific tyres..You will be well pleased...Thankyou..!!

I admit it, I believed in skinny tires. I thought they were the answer to my pavement ways..but I have seen the light... of FATTIES!! Seriously, I just completed a week of daily, early morning 12 mile rides and the ride these tires provide is exceptional. I snickered when some of the other reviewers spoke of "no roll reisistance" but I'll be danged if they weren't being straight up..I was running a pair of 1.75", multi purpose tires and compared to those these babys roll like there's no tomorrow. Even smoothed out the ride and made the treks enjoyable again..Can't vouch for how long they'ii last, but maybe in a 1,000 miles or so I'll do another review. You can't go wrong with these.. Fat,is were it's at!!!

I'm no expert on bike tires. Bought these Schwable Big Apples based on other reviews and installed them on a 26-inch Schwinn single-speed cruiser that's at least 20 years old. They have been on the bike for a little more than a week and I've ridden maybe 30 miles on them so far. Tires are noticeably lighter weight than the original-equipment Kendas. Sidewalls feel very thin as well. The tires were easy to install on my rims and look great. The bike feels "quicker" and easier to pedal than it did on the original tires that has a bit more knobby tread. They ride comfortably, but I think they remain responsive and allow you to feel the road and what the bike is doing on it.Will update review if required.

I was sceptical about the impact of changing tires from my regular off road tires (specialized ground control 29*2.1), and whether they would be much different at all. The Big Apples work well at speed, and it isn't difficult to maintain a high speed just by feeding into the momentum of the tyres from a downhill section. Excellent handling in all conditions, I've never had any traction issues, even through ridiculous rain and puddles (haven't experienced snow yet..). They are quiet too, and look awesome. I have had them on for over a year and have had lots of compliments. Over half the compliments on my bike are about the tyres, and that's saying something because my bike looks sweet.

I bought a Specialized Rockhopper 29er hard tail mountain bike last year, thinking I was going to tear up the single tracks. Instead I tore up the Rockhopper and realized it was best fitted for a less aggressive purpose. So I turned it into my tame paved/gravel long distance bike (20-30 mile rides). I pulled off the knobbies, did some research, and the Big Apple lit up the forums. So far I've put about 2,000 miles on these tires with mostly paved road. These tires roll like the wind and I like the adversity in case I run into some dirt. I think they increased my MPH by a couple from the stock knobbies. These are very high quality, but they don't work as tubeless unfortunately.

These tires are awesome! I've only put a couple hundred or so miles on them so far but they do exactly what I wanted. I was getting flats at least weekly commuting to work on my 29'er MTB, mostly in the bike lanes full of debris. I did not want messy Slime or hard and/or heavy tube liners so I gave these a shot. So far no flats! They grip nicely and roll fast at around only 35 psi giving a nice cushy ride. I haven't ridden in the rain yet so no idea about wet grip. They're nice and quiet, but I was used to knobby tires droning, so I'm not the best judge of noise. And I'm getting accustomed to the balloon bike look lol
