Having searched for a few days to find something similar I ended up parting with my cash for these. So far I still have my front wheel and have stopped using the cable around the front wheel which makes locking the bike up a super quick process compared to normal. I still put the gold rated D lock around the bike rack and through the rear wheel for added security, but I'm far more confident about keeping the front. The key with added bottle opener is easy to use although I did find it slipped somewhat so longevity might be in question, but overall I think for a commuter bike these skewers are a must. It wont deter a dedicated thief, but an opportunist will go for an easier target. The bottle opener is a bit gimmicky though. The skewers are incredibly easy to replace especially if you have currently have quick release. Pull out the old ones and slide the pinhead skewers in. You may need to cut some of the end off as on some bikes once tightened there is enough thread left showing to be grabbed by pliers or other grabbing tool. The bike will ride exactly as before, only now you have to remember to take the pinhead skewer key with you to get the wheels off if you get a rear puncture. For five stars I'd need a lower price. Getting on for forty pounds it's a hard hit to swallow for something that is incredibly simple. Unfortunately needs must and in the end if someone tries to steal my wheels and fails then it will be worth it. It's all far too common in busy towns to see bikes missing wheels so would you rather deter a thief or need to spend hundreds for a new wheel.

I bought the Pinhead security kit for my bicycle. You replace the skewers (axles), and the seat clamp, and the steering head nut. It means that the wheels and saddle cannot be removed by using bare hands on quick-release levers. To get the wheels out you will need the supplied key. Think of it like a security nut for your car wheels. It is the same idea. The head end of the axle is smoothly domed on the outside with little teeth on the inside. The nut end of the axle then has the 3 specially positioned dimples which fit exactly in the supplied tool. Don't lose the tool. If you give your bike to a dealer to be serviced, just as with your car,you will have to lend them the unique key to get wheels or saddle or steering off.I don't have particularly expensive wheels, but I didn't want to leave the bike with wheels secured by quick-release skewers. Quick-release, the clue is in the name. The pinheads are elegant, clean and smooth. A threaded portion of the axle does protrude, but there is a plastic cover provided. This keeps your threads clean and protects them from the elements. It also protects you and your clothing from the protruding parts. This system is more secure than some other systems. I have another set with a 5 sided hex key (yes, I know that "hex" means 6). On that system ALL the models have the same 5 sided key. With pinheads, each one is different. Which is why I say, don't lose your key.The pinheads remain tight for months.Recommended if quick-release leaves you nervous.

Looked for a locking quick release set for when I leave the bike unattended. These fitted the bill really well, just remember to carry the release key with you or you won't remove the wheel in the event of a puncture etc.

If you want the flexibility of quick release and the security of bolts then these are the best combination I have found. The 'key' feels solid and is easy to use. So far I still have both my wheels!!
