This is an extremely handy tool to have in your tool roll in case you have a chain emergency on the road. It's not the easiest to use due to its compact & portable size. It's a bit too small of a tool to use for basic bench-top work as it is designed to be as tiny and light as possible. Pedro's sells bench chain tools that have a permanently attached handle and aren't so tiny that they are hard to manipulate and use. This chain tool is so small that it is more difficult to use it even for experienced mechanics. The allen wrench can slip out at inopportune moments. It does a fine job breaking a chain (which is the easy part) but when it comes time to push the pin back in this is where the trouble starts unless you really know what you are doing. With larger single-speed (1/8") chains if you push the pin out too far it can be a struggle getting it back in. The tool is barely wide enough so that if you back the press bolt ALL the way out until there is one or two threads it can just barely fit over the chain. Since the tool is very small it's hard to manipulate. The press pin can skew to the side and jam if it is not pressed in perfectly straight. It's less of an issue with deraileur chain (3/32") as it is narrower and the pin isn't as long. This isn't a very good tool to learn how to break/join bike chain the first time for the novice. I've done many chains and it still sometimes frustrates me. It's not really that hard, it just takes much more time futzing around. All the while the handle keeps popping out and without it the tool is so small in your hands it is hard to keep straight and to hold the chain from flopping out onto the ground both ways. A larger bench tool is much easier to use and would be MUCH better to learn on. This tool gets bad reviews from n00bs who don't know what they are doing. I don't really blame them. On the road it would be vastly greater than having nothing though. That is what this tool is for.Looking at Pedro's current catalog this exact tool isn't even offered any more as a stand-alone unit. It's now part of a multi-tool set called the RMX which includes a multi-allen set that this tool snaps into and without the rubber allen wrench holder. It costs a few more clams but not much than this tool alone. If you just want this tool with the single allen wrench & rubber holder you better buy one while they are still available in seller's stock. For a portable tool this is probably the nicest one available IMHO. There is no slicker/smaller/lighter unit available with included spoke wrenches -a nice touch and one fewer tool one has to carry along in their tool roll.

If you bought this tool it was most likely because of its chain tool function. The other 5 functions (3 truing wrenches, flat screwdriver and 5mm hex wrench) can come in handy on the go, but do not seem especially specialized as they appear to be simply an afterthought; helping the company sell you less metal. Regardless, the chain tool function works beautifully. Simply attach the 5mm hex wrench and turn. The hex wrench doesn't attach deeply so take care not to thread the wrench, although you can simply pick up another 5mm hex wrench and use that instead. The truing wrenches are not well placed. I own a Schwinn Ditch 3.0 which has wheels that look identical to the ones on this model

Needed a chain tool foe my bike, and it had to be Pedro's (or so I was told by my significant other). This Pedro's chain tool is quite inexpensive tweet does the job. It's made of hardened steel, unlike some lesser brands, so will hold up through the long haul. This seller ships super fast! Had it in my hands in 2 days, even though it's shipped 1st class. Very pleased.

Got this to go in my commuting breakdown kit. I love having the spoke wrench combined in the handle. Seems well made. Combine it with a Park MT-1, Topeak Micro Rocket, spare tube, pair of tire tools, and a KMC missing link, and you'll have a soda-can-sized toolbox that will handle most any roadside repair.

Out of every tool in the shop, I grab this about 30% of the time. The 5mm & flathead is infinitely handy, and the chain tool works very well. Trued a wheel with it as well. With the exception of getting a loose pin back into a chain. This tool could help more with aligning a detached/used pin.

This thing possesses all the qualities I look for in a tool- utility, durability, build-quality; and those specific to bike tools- multiple functions without redundancies and low weight.

It's small but it's made out of really good steel. This thing is not cheap quality at all. Works like it should and I wasn't afraid I was going to break this one

Great portable chain tool. Works very well. I like having this tool with me when mountain biking as extra insurance in case something happens to my chain.

I bought it mostly for the chain tool, and the chain tool does it's job great. The allen wrench and screw-driver are fairly sturdy too.

nicely built, heavy duty, easy to use... this tool avoided me several visits at the store and has paid itself several times already.

Great quality, well made, compact. You can even leave the Allen wrench off if you have one (a multi-tool) in your bike pack.

Useful and compact tool; but the wrench is a little bit stubby. Not sure if it will stand up to wear.

24.2.2015

Does the job AND does a better job of spoke adjustments with its large base

works like a charm; my only complaint is that its really on the small side

Screwdriver part very useful when adjusting derailleurs on the road.
