As the owner of two german shepherds and a siberian husky, I know only too well how much exercise it takes to create a happy and calm dog.My walky dog system arrived yesterday, it was fitted in about 5 minutes, and each of the dogs was taken out, one at a time, to get used to the idea of being 'attached' to me. Within about 100 metres each of them had it figured out. The biggest and most excitable GSD managed to pull the bar from its rear facing angle to right in front under my leg, but that was my fault for not having it tightened enough. We passed cats and other dogs, both of which are always 'fair game' and I only felt the bike jar a little when they tried to chase them, but it was nothing my 8 stone frame couldn't handle. Once they realised they weren't getting anywhere accept where I said, they happily trotted alongside. I even took the husky out for a 6 mile run last night, and when I let her off to get a drink she returned to the same spot beside me, and trotted along as if she was still clipped (this is the same dog that normally has to stop and wait for me to catch up, because she is so far ahead). The metal bar part of the leash can be undone to reveal the 3 springs inside that act as shock absorbers. I have actually removed one of the springs as it has more than enough absorbency with just two, and it also leaves a little more of the leash available to free up the dogs movement, but not so much that it gets near the pedals or wheels. Wish I'd known about these things about 4 years ago!

We tried this with our greyhound x and our collie x rescue dogs and it works well. My husband thought I was mad when I bought this, thought the dogs would pull me off the bike/ pull the bike over but that hasn't happened. We need to practice turning, but both dogs got the hang of running alongside (one at a time) on the grass next to the cycle paths in the park. This was purchased because i thought it might be a handy way to exercise a lurcher that has no recall (so can't be let off safely in our local parks) and can outrun me, so running with him on the lead isn't an option! - we're using it once or twice a week to let him really stretch his legs in addition to our usual gentle walks. The dogs are walked 3 times a day, but I felt they needed to do more than walk and our garden isn't big enough to really let off steam. The collie x has recall but can't let him off to run while the other is kept on the lead, as is unfair to the other dog, so he has got a bit plump since the lurcher arrived - now we're using the bike attachment to improve his fitness with short trips running with the bike. Very easy to fit to the bike and to remove the post from the clamp and the bike feels stable with either dog attached. I use harnesses with both dogs so they are attached to the wally dog from the d ring on their back, not their necks.

I have a golden retriever (so a large and strong dog) who likes to join me when I cycle. We recently visited the New Forest and I wanted to make sure she was under control to avoid a situation of her chasing animals and wildlife which is in abundance in that part of the country. She took to the Walky Dog very quickly and happily trotted alongside me, it certainly made keeping her on leash whilst cycling very easy to handle. There were a few occasions where she pulled ahead as I was slowing down and this caused the Walky Dog to move forward out of position. It meant I needed to get off my bike and reposition the Walky Dog. I had it tightened well but I guess perhaps as she's a strong dog this was unavoidable,it was not a huge problem though and more of a minor inconvenience on a few occasions. My concern was that she'd pull me over off my bike but this was never an issue and I felt very confident using the Walky Dog, I'm a petite and light woman and as said my dog is quite large and strong but she doesn't pull much on the leash so there wasn't a lot of pulling going on. It was easy to put on the bike and work out how to use it. I use this attached to a harness rather than a collar. A well made piece of kit that is very helpful when you need your dog to stay on leash whilst you're cycling.

Really sturdy bit of kit. Precision made. Quality from clip to bracket. After much head scratching though, I decided to mount mine at the base of my seat post. This feels right, positioning my dog next to me away from the front wheel and rear disc brake. The problem is that my doggie is only 15” tall, so the rope is much too short. Even taking the springs out was not long enough without garrotting her - and the springs are a good idea, why would I want to remove them? What I did in the end was run along to my local hardware store and buy a couple of meters of rope, similar to the lead and replace it with my new bit. Now it’s long enough AND I could leave all the springs in for comfort if she starts to pull.So really, that should have been thought of by Walky Dog.Obviously, hanging a dog off the side of your bike isn’t ideal, so this lead isn’t for your dog to run along with your bike - it’s for you to cycle next to your dog. That’s the priority so the fact my leg nudges the bar at the bottom of each pedal stroke isn’t a bother as I’m never really going very fast so can comfortably adjust my position.Oh, and despite the quality this isn’t worth £60. But it’s the best on offer so you have to pay for it I guess.

I have got two dogs - GSD and Golden retriever. Both very strong. I was looking for bike leash for them. After looking in the internet, I decided to take the plunge and bought two of them. Initially i started taking one at a time as I was not sure how much pull the springs going to absorb. I am 6 ft 2 inch and a big lad. My dogs really pull when sees squirrel, birds. Petego does takes lots of the pull away from me, but still I really have to be careful holding on to the cycle handle as I can still feel bit of impact on the bike (around 20%).Slowly my confidence grew and I put another one on my cycle. So now I take both of them at the same time...both side of the bike. No problem.Even I bought another one for my 11 year old daughter and she takes one of the easily with her. So no problem. Two problem faced till now:1 - The rope in the Petego worn out very fast. i bought paracord and changed once. After heavy use, they are still intact. i paid 9.99 GBP for 100 meters of paracord...so thats going to last for life long.2 - The Petego rod attachment seems to be becoming loose at the attachment base, but has not come out once yet. If it does come out, i will let you know.

I ordered this because we have a high energy dog that will try and chase anything that moves. The other styles would give him too much flexibility so this looked perfect. He's had two outings with it now, and is still a little hesitant, but once the pace gets going he settles down. He saw a cat on the first trip, and my husband managed to control him easily with the bike. The only down side is the clamp that goes on the frame. My husband has a large framed bike, and when it was put onto the seatpost the lead was too high for our dog (same height as female lab). We didn't want to add extending pieces due to the whole 'chasing anything that moves' problem. We thought it might give him to much leverage and destabilise the bike.He tried attaching it lower down the seat tube, but it interefered with his leg.The clamp is now round the seat stay, and it's stable. He used a piece of old innertube to make up the size. So far, no problems. However an adjustable clamp would have been great. It's still got 5 stars though, because we can finally exercise our dog at a pace that will tire him out.

Love this product!!!Well made, great clip attachment for bike for quick attachment and release much better than having to screw and unscrew to remove.Bike attachment seems solid and hasn't moved / twisted on seat stem when in use.I recently bought a bike to exercise Skye my collie, which is fantastic on green lanes etc. but I wanted something to control her whilst getting to the off lead places I want to exercise her at. Tried this for the first time with my collie Skye on a country lane. Did 7k at a steady pace, she seemed quite happy to trot along with no issues, keeps her a set distance from wheels and my leg, didn't feel any adverse pull from her whilst moving.I have now bought her a harness (Hunter Racing 46365 Norwegian-Style Harness Size L ) as I felt her collar was a bit too restricting and didn't want to feel like she was getting dragged by her neck, I think this will be much better for her even though she hasn't worn a harness b4, she seems completely happy with it and it adds extra visibility for the dog. I'm not sure about the legality of using this on roads????

This has been an absolute god send! My beautiful 19mth old giant schnauzer x standard poodle, who adores all humans, is not so hot with all other dogs. So consequently, I don’t walk him off-lead at all anymore in our nearby woods as I did for the first 6mths of his life. It was becoming to stressful. So after seeing someone on tv cycling with dog I thought, hm, I like riding bikes and we live in a flat area near our local village. It was a bit of a punt, because one friend I know tried one of these and got pulled into a canal! Luckily for me, after I forked out for a lovely Miss Marple bicycle with a basket in front, my boy took to it like a duck to water. We now go out in errands with it about 4/5 times a week and I only walk him on lead about 2/3 times. He gets plenty of exercise, ignores for the most part other dogs we go past, and waits patiently locked up with the bike for 10 minutes (at most) while I run in a shop/post office etc. Good. As. Gold. And I’m really enjoying getting around on a bike again! I feel 20 yrs younger on it.

This is my first ever Amazon review but the product warrants it. I've a very hyper border collie who pulls like a freight train and lunges at traffic - she is a nightmare to walk on the leash despite 2.5 years of training. The walkydog was a breeze to fit to my bike (took less than 5 minutes) and after a quick practice around the block for both of us to get used to it (which was accomplished more or less straight away) we've both just had the best ever outing. The walkydog takes all of the strain out of jerky dog pulls and I never once felt unbalanced or not in control. I used to dread walk time - I actually think this product will transform both of our lives and give us the happy times together that I hoped for when getting a dog.I cannot thank the creators of the walkydog enough - it's a fabulous piece of kit.Two additional points:-1. Make sure that the screws are as tight as can be.2. I would agree with other reviewers to use only with a harness to not put any strain on the dogs neck or their airway.

I have owned this Walky Dog and the other types available and can verify this is worth the extra money although if you look elsewhere on the net it can be found much cheaper. It is a very well made item - strong and excellent design. Unlike the other types, it has a very good fitting for the part that attatches to the bike with a rubber inside so the fitting can be really tightened and fit snugly. It also has a quick release from that attachment so if you are on your bike without the dog you can quickly take off the extending arm with no fuss/ unscrewing etc. The other types of these dog walkers are permanent fixtures or need unscrewing. Finally the "leash" end is not of a length where the dog can take it in his mouth (as mine does on the other types) to take me for a ride as opposed to the other way around and so it cannot be chewed etc. It is a really well made item that will last a long time and keep you and your dog secure and is much less "jerky" when the dog lunges than the other types of these things.

This device works brilliantly. It installs easily, and once installed the bit that that dog lead attaches to can be removed easily and reattached to the bit that is installed onto the seat post. It is quite heavy, however once it is attached and your cycling along you don't notice this at all.My 8kg cavalier king charles spaniel took to it pretty much instantly (I walked with the bike for a couple of minutes before starting to cycle), and he didn't pull at all once we got going, and only a minor amount at the beginning when I was cycling very slowly. The bike didn't shift much when he did pull a little, and I was aware of it, although it was easy enough to adjust for.5 stars, would recommend to anyone!

All in all this is well built, easy to adjust and does what you need it to. I did notice a slight twisting of the pole, but this is hand in hand with my other issue. I ended up returning this as it is not suited to my dog.I have a 14kg collie/poodle cross, she medium size but likes to pull. She was able to pull me off balance a few times and the height of the lead meant that if she pulled her front legs were starting to come off the ground even after I took springs out. She was uncomfortable and so was I. If your dog walks well on the lead, this product would be great for them. Wouldn't suggest for a dog that pulls however,a lead that connects lower on the bike frame would be better suited.

I have 2 large dogs, both of which pull extremely hard if they see another dog or a squirrel (for example). I took them out with the walky dog plus - individually, and did meet another dog en-route during my journey. I didn't feel a thing, as no doubt the larger of my 2 dogs did want to try and go over to say hello with his usual gusto. Very pleased with it. Also one of the dogs cannot be let off the lead in a public place due to her habit of chasing anything that moves, and so can now have a good run on the lead rather than always being restricted to walking. Very happy with the product and would thoroughly recommend it.Also it arrived before the suggested time - so bet delivery expectations

the doggy walk is ideal for my german shepard dog,he is a dog that chases deer, rabbits,in fact anything tat moves really.i took out one spring as wss advised by the lady who previously reviewed the doggy walk and it worked fine.he does manage to pull the attatchment round if he sees another dog but there is no danger to you when your cycling,it just requires you to push it back,he is a large male so perhaps it wouldnt happen with a smaller dog.the exercise completely flattens him and does improve his behaviour, just be careful in this heat not to over do it,i trott him attatched to the doggy walk and stop from time to time and walk him,a very good product well worth the money.

It’s a bit pricey but it’s the only one that works for me , owned one years ago when I had a 30kg Dalmatian and it lasted forever even though he pulled me and the bike like a husky a snow sledge .So bought one now for my 10kg staffy/whippet pup and she loves it ... it keeps the dog far enough back to run along side you and not cross in front of the bike and it’s easy to take or if u don’t use it.Only thing is , doesn’t matter how strong you screw the mount to your bike it will always turn forward but it’s due to bike frames being round and at least that means you can use the walkydog on either side of the bike just have to turn it around.
