The rating - 4 stars - has to be taken in the context of the price, £7 at the time of review. These are not a toy, but there are obviously some compromises in both construction, materials and optical quality when they're so cheap. They're not Swarovski quality, but they're not junk either.I bought these for children, 6 and 10, who have taken a strong interest in my rather more expensive, and considerably larger and heavier binoculars of the same magnification (the first number, 8) but larger aperture (21 for these, 44 for my others). They find them too heavy to hold still (which has a huge negative impact on what you can effectively see regardless of optical quality),and I find it too nerve wracking when they disappear off with them, expecting a terminal thud to turn them into a novelty paperweight.These binoculars are constructed well enough for the price - a sturdy metal hinge and with rubberised coating on the lens bodies, they feel solid enough. The hinge holds at the angle set, the focus wheel is tight enough not to be frustrating, and the right eyepiece is adjustable independent of the focus wheel to help adjust for different focus needs for each eye and/or the different focus of each lens. I had no issue adjusting to perfectly acceptable focus in both eyes.The image is not the brightest as you should expect as a result of the second number, 21, constraining the amount of light that enters. However on a slightly overcast UK day was absolutely fine for viewing birds and seeing plenty of detail in far away objects. Relative to much more expensive, heavier binoculars the contrast (which affects how crisp things look, in addition to the focus) is obviously lower but still perfectly adequate. There is some chromatic aberration (coloured fringes on the edges of distant things) but again nothing that really detracts from the likely use of a £7 pair of binoculars.The neck cord is thin, but that's not much of a problem for such lightweight binoculars. They also came with a little cleaning cloth and a bag with a belt loop to store them in.All in all, for the money, these are incredibly good. They are light and small, and no one will be upset when they are inevitably dropped and/or lost by the kids. For a first set of binoculars that can be wielded by small hands - or even as a spare set, or to be tucked away in a bag - they are really surprisingly good for the money.I've attached a few photos, both of the binoculars themselves and of a barn that's around 80m away. The picture through the lens doesn't do the binoculars complete justice as it is worse quality than appears when looking through them, however hopefully it shows that they are pretty usable, and also gives you an idea of how large a 24' object, around 260' away might look at the '8x' magnification these offer, versus the picture of the same without the binoculars.

The product arrived within 2 days, and is exactly as expected. For the price, the binoculars are fantastic. I will be using them to whale watch in South Africa, and spot Great Whites - I'd like to keep a little distance :)

Excellent pair of binoculars. Very light to handle so can be moved and focused fast. Magnification is good. Very good binoculars.for the price. Will buy further binoculars once the kids grow up a bit.

Bought these for a fancy dress occasion but could not believe the value. They are sturdy and very good binoculars. Ideal for bird watching or star gazing. Outstanding value for money.

I brought these for my dad and he really loves them. They are small enough to fit into his walking jacket pocket and still powerful enough to see the birds etc.

These binoculars are great! You can see for miles and they are very compact. It also comes with a case and a cleaning cloth.
