I love these things! In college I became accustomed to having a notebook nearby to jot down information or diagram an idea. I drifted away from this in the work world. My electronic devices, mostly Palms and iPhones, lacked the immediacy of a simple pen and paper. It always felt like you had to "set something up" on a PDA before writing or drawing anything.These little notebooks are the answer. Can't believe I didn't run into them sooner. They achieve excellence through elegance. Simple and well-made, they do their job without fuss. A few things I like about using mine:- Ideal size. It fits in my pocket.- Unobtrusive. Simple, ignorable black cover.- Bookmark ribbon. Easy to use,easy to move out of the way. Hate it? Cut it off.- Back cover pocket. Great for little things that fall out when tucked between pages. I've got a couple of family pictures, a few business cards, and a $20 bill.- Pages. A good number of them made from quality paper. They are sturdy enough to hold on to the occasional paperclip to mark a reference page. (Keep some of them in the pocket, too.)- Elastic band. It holds the book open to a particular page when needed, holds it closed when you are finished, and keeps your pen clipped on the front cover from sliding off to the side. Multiple functions from a simple piece of elastic. Elegant!Yep, these little books are handy. Get one. Or better--get a case of them so you can support your habit if the company goes out of business.A final note. Moleskine notebook apps have recently been released for the iPhone and iPad. The app design is not yet there, in my opinion. But I have high hopes for the future, though I will keep using the books, too. It seems a good idea to download them now while they are free. You will likely be "grandfathered in" to the improved commercial version when it appears.

Moleskine PocketbookI have been using Moleskine Notebooks for the last couple of years after being introduced to them by my daughter. I have the A4 one for my daily "Bullet Journal" and a large one for my project planning. But I needed a small pocket one for when I go out to work. It needed to be small enough to put in my pocket, rugged enough to stand up to the rigours of our workshop environment and feel nice to write on.For this job I had originally bought a cheaper hard backed version from a local stationers but within a short time the spine fell apart and the paper felt horrible and the hard back didn't squish into my pocket. So I bit the bullet and spent the not inconsiderable amount for a pocket notebook and bought a Moleskine.I knew with the Moleskine I was getting the quality I needed.This pocket book with its soft cover is suitably pliable to fit in my pocket, the place holder is useful as I can quickly find where I need to be and the elastic that holds it shut has lasted well over the months I have used it, retaining pretty much all of the elasticity that it had when new. I like the sqaures as it makes it easy to keep notes in line and draw 'tick" boxes for lists. The paper feels smooth to write on. The only thing I dont like is that writing on the left side page with it being a smaller book can sometimes be not as comfortable as starting a fresh new page. So I tend to do my weekly "to do" on the right hand page and use the left side for brief notes refering to the week. I find that mosts tasks fit onto one page so I am using a two page spread per week. I haven't really used the small pocket on the inside back cover as it is not really big enough to put anything in although it is a feature of the Moleskine books. I would definitely buy another of these when I have filled this one.

This is a really novel idea, in that it manages to cut the number of electronic components down to zero. Yes, ZERO!Obviously there are both pros and cons.PRO:* No batteries or recharges needed.* Therefore no worries about batteries running out at a crucial moment.* Extremely robust. In the interests of testing the device fully, I have thrown it over a high bannister on to a hard tiled floor, and it suffered no damage whatsoever and remained fully functional. This was also the case when it was banged on a table with considerable force.* I've also discovered that even if the notebook suffers minor to moderate exposure to water, it still remains perfectly functional (though it may suffer some purely cosmetic damage).* The 'codex'form of the GUI screens makes it extremely rapid and easy to flick from one item of data to another, and they're very tactile, made of smooth high-quality material (with lines to facilitate easier and neater data entry).CON:* Some form of stylus will be ABSOLUTELY necessary (but none is included, which seems a bit of an oversight)* In order to fully utilise the 'cut and paste' function, you'll also need extra hardware - a 'scissors' unit, and 'glue' or 'sellotape' add-ons (also not included).* Due to the lack of an illuminated screen, the notebook's functionality is greatly impacted by lack of light, and in very dark conditions it becomes completely useless.THE BOTTOM LINE:All in all, I think this is a really great gizmo, and I'll be using it in preference to some of my electronic items. Data entry and retrieval is MUCH faster. And at this price, it's a no-brainer.Highly Recommended.

I never intended to write a review for this item but here goes. Having organised my life entirely around my mobile phone and laptop, the value of a notebook has somewhat been diminished. Lists are stored as reminders on my iPhone, work notes are written down on scrap pieces of paper and transferred to digital, electronic phone numbers and addresses are all synced via Google. The only thing left for the notebook is uncategorised notes and drawings.However, my problems:1. I have dreadful handwriting - wonky lists, dodgy paragraph margins.2. I can't draw very well - storyboarding is hard on lined paper, scale is never right.3. I structure notes in unusual ways - lack of bookmark screws everything up.4.White paper really irritates me.Why this notebook helps:1. The paper is lovely to write on. Honestly. It's really smooth and the quality seems to better my handwriting.2. The colour of the paper is spot on. Easy on the eyes and helps me absorb my notes better.3. The squared paper really helps my drawing. I generally use rulers and try my hardest to keep things to scale. The squares make it easier. Also, the fact it's thread-bound means you can make use of every page in the notebook as the pages lay completely flat.4. The bookmark helps me keep track of sections.5. The backpocket holds all the random crap which won't fit in your wallet or diary.I can only criticise the elastic band which holds the notebook together. Seems rather cheap for such a premium product.The only thing I haven't worked out is how the postman put it through my letterbox. Who knows!

I will start this review by saying I do like a nice Moleskine notebook/diary.This notebook is a great size (a little less than A4 but still good sizes pages) and the paper is a nice texture and thickness. I write with a fine nibbed fountain pen using black ink and, at times, the ink is visible on the reverse of the page - normally nothing more than a hint of ink where I have paused shows through. The weight of the paper means this is a reasonably thick notebook, but it still slips neatly into my 13 inch laptop soft cover (alongside my laptop) with no problems.As has been said this is a soft covered notebook, all XL Moleskines are I believe; that said the cover is robust enough to withstand the average rucksack of a student,although, if you are looking to write without resting the book on a desk etc you may want to look at the hardcover books in Moleskine size "large". However I prefer these notebooks as the soft cover makes opening the book flat and writing up to the centre line very easy - no wasted paper!The lines on the paper are a little wider than a standard narrow ruled page, I can understand some people may find the lines too narrow, however they seem spot on for me - I think they actually help me to keep my writing neater as I concentrate a little more!A nice feeling of permanence too - this is not a notebook for fleeting thoughts, this is a notebook for lasting memories.

But I absolutely love it! I wondered, how can the cost make a simple lined book better? It's hard to explain why, but it just feels right when I write in it. I would definitely recommend the soft moleskin because it feels much better to me personally rather than a hard notebook because it feels more comfortable and I generally prefer the texture (I also purchased a moleskine sketchbook which is hard but I prefer this). My dad passed away recently and I wanted to be able to write his memories and funeral preparations in this book and it's been very useful to me. I've done my planning and drafts of my tribute,I've carried a prototype for the order of service in the pocket at the back of this Moleskine to show my family and I now keep some of the sympathy cards I received from my friends.Maybe it's because I've made this Moleskine have personal value, but it is absolutely priceless to me. I guess it really is how you use this Moleskine tha will depend on its effectiveness. For me it's done it's job well, but at the end of the day it is just a notebook. It's what you need it for and how you'll use it. I agree it seems pricey, but I was willing to pay that price for something nice to write about my dad in.

After months, I decided to get a Moleskine to see what the fuss was about. Why would any sane person spend so much on a notebook? Reluctantly, I decided to give it a go. As they say, don't knock it until you've tried it.Now, I love them. They are in fact addictive.The quality and feel is great from the cover, down to the pages. They are fab to write on.For me to spend this much on a notebook, I wouldn't use it for everyday scribble. It is better for long term or important things like a diary/project. But, if I could afford to use them all the time, for everything I would!The price on here is great too. I think it is reasonable for what you get.Convert or not you wouldn't find me paying the full RRP for one in a store.On my second one of these so far and intend to keep buying them.If you haven't tried it, go on...live a little...splashing out on a notepad won't kill you. Go for it big style with the Xlarge (as close to A4 as you'll get in the notebook range).You'll either love it or hate it, but don't moan about it until you've tried it.

It's a great notebook, it really is. The creamy coloured paper is of very high quality, and the lines are spaced perfectly. Some people prefer the lines spaced further apart, but the lines in this book are quite narrow which is perfect for me.The soft cover isn't really what I was expecting though. It's really quite thin. I was expecting a more soft feel hard cover I guess... I couldn't really tell what it was going to be like from the rubbish pictures which Moleskine use and the lack of any description from Amazon. The cover would be great on a pocket notebook, but this one is a bit big to fit in your pocket, and so doesn't really need the soft cover.The cover also bends where the elastic strap goes around the cover which leaves it distorted and a little messy looking for such an expensive notebook which is disappointing.Moleskine make some great books, and this is a great book, but I think the cover lets it down a little compared with the hard cover ones. My next Moleskine will definitely have a hard cover.

I have always loved Moleskine notebooks for the smooth quality of the paper. To me "notebook" suggests something one might scribble down a shopping list or telephone number, however a Moleskine is where one writes important things, works, creates etc. A Moleskine has a feeling of permanence.This extra large squared notepad has the traditional high quality paper with well defined squares printed. The squares are large enough to write in and perfect for numerical work. I tutor chemistry students, and find these pages perfect for formulae and calculations.A previous reviewer has commented that the soft back is not suitable for those who wish to take their notebook and write "on the go",and I would agree, however, I rate this as a five star product because the soft cover is fantastic for where I use my notebook, it allows the notebook to be opened flat so one can write all the way to the very centre of the page, and, despite being soft, the cover is enough to protect the pages inside whilst in a bag or on a desk.

Whilst something of a cliche now, Moleskines have become so for good reason. Whether as a self-indulgent nice thing to have, or as a gift, they fit the bill perfectly. The manufacturing quality shines through. Personally, I mainly use them for work as my company provides pretty pedestrian notebooks that are just a little but samey and mediocre . We office workers don't have many areas to express our (albeit sensibly bland) style - the Molskine affords that chance, with the "the king" being the Large soft cover, plain black: cool and professional. The slightly off-white creamy pages are easy on the eye too and don't glare at you beneath, unnecessarily bright, office lighting. I'm hooked.I tend to use about one a year at work - so that's not too high a price really to per day. The lines are well spaced too - so your writing takes up the fewest pages without feeling cramped. In fact, I think owning one may even improve your handwriting - to scrawl within the 'skine would just be a crime.

I've always been a big fan of Moleskine notebooks and regularly buy them via Amazon.The first time I bought an Extra-Large size, it was an accident. But I'm so glad I made that mistake because this is now my favourite size. It's larger than the large which I felt wasn't quite big enough for all of my notes. And although I still use the larger A4 workbook as well, this size is more portable and feels more comfortable in my hands.This ruled notebook has 192 ruled pages and a page with the classic "in case of loss". The back has the signature pocket and a page marker ribbon.The soft cover is lighter than the hard cover and wears well. The closing band for the soft cover is thinner than the hard cover.I read somewhere else that this is probably because the stronger thicker band might warp the thinner soft cover material. Anyways, the band is fine for this notebook and maintains its elasticity really well.

Well... this is my seventh Moleskine so obviously I already like them!Then main thing with this one was the soft cover (all my others have been the hard covers!) however I was pleasantly surprised with just how good it was to use. I'm really enjoying being able to flick through the pages right from the word go, rather than before waiting until I had opened up the cover. It still feels robust enough to last me for all the pages I will use.The only thing I don't like so much is the secret compartment means that the back page is considerably thicker than the front, especially noticeable whilst flicking through book rather than using the bookmark. This could be a positive, as it makes the flicking through slower,and therefore more accurate!Overall, definitely worth the money (especially as it's cheaper here than in most retail stores) and a really good book experience!!!

I have searched for so long for THE perfect notebook.I have tried so many types and sizes.Then I stumbled on these.OK the company may have changed but I like the heritage connection to Hemingway and the like.However it is not just the feel of the notebook, the ribbon to mark your place, the elastic to keep it shut, or allow it to open at just the right page, the quality of the paper, the binding, the built in pocket to hold slips of paper and notes in the back cover, the subtle branding on the rear cover, or the squared paper (which in my opinion is just perfect) - it is the way that the pen glides over the paper,and the total complete and utter feeling of quality that exudes from every part of this notebook that makes it so great.The admiring glances from others as you write in it also help!Wonderful.Honestly, try this notebook, it is the best I have found.

I have been using this size and type of notebook for some time now.I love this size, just slightly smaller than an A4 sheetI love the hard wearing wipe clean coverI love the elastic closure which has stayed in perfect order in the year this notebook has been in useI love the quality of the paperI love the squared paper, (the notebook is also available ruled and unruled) but as I often sit down with clients and we look at solutions in the forms of tables or flow charts the squared paper is useful.The ribbon to mark ones place is also very handy.The pocket at the rear is very useful for holding notes passed in meetings and other bits and pieces.In summary,this has to be one of the best Moleskin books on the market and Moleskin make the best note books.It may look expensive (and it is) but the quality means it is worth every single penny.

I was pleasantly surprised when this notebook turned up on my doorstep a couple of days before the due date. Excellent service from Amazon, the whole process was easy and the product was exactly as described. The soft cover is a delight and although it's not leather, it looks the business. There's a useful little pocket at the back which is able to hold the odd bit of loose paper, and although I have yet to test the full capacity yet, it seems like it will hold anything I need it to. The pages are of good quality paper and writing with a ball point leave no trace of ink on the reverse side, although if you are thinking of using a wide nib fountain pen it might be best not to use both sides,but there are loads of pages so it shouldn't be too much of an issue.Overall, it's a great journal and I would recommend it to anyone
