I have never bought Minox binoculars before; but as I know the brand for its great quality optic products, I decided to buy them.I use these at work (Air Traffic Control Tower) and love the fixed focus of them (12 metres to infinity). With aircraft I don't have to find them as these are fixed focus. The clarity is exceptional as is the build quality. Everything is so sharp and I once you have set up the individual focus for each eye, you never have to do it again (unless you lend them to someone else whose eyes are not the same as yours). At night they work really well as long as there is some ambient light around. You can use them with the eye guards folded back if you wear spectacles; or you can take off your spectacles and focus them to your eyes the first time you use them. They are by far the best binoculars I have ever used in the tower. The previous ones (Nikon) kept breaking plus you had to focus them the whole time, and the field of view was not as good as these. They would also be ideal as lifeguard binoculars as they are always in focus, and one could just scan the water with everything continuously and always crystal clear and in focus (in my view every lifeguard in the world should have these as primary lifesaving equipment). These would also be perfect for any field sport where the object is always moving.I can highly recommend these binos to anyone.Update: My boss has now ordered 4 pairs of the same binoculars for the Tower and Emergency Control Room. I tried the Steiner Navigator Sports Autofocus 7x50 in a shopping mall, and they are not a patch on these for what we need them for. With the Steiner's, I took them out of the shop (was in a shopping mall) and looked down a wide corridor a few hundred metres long. Whilst one part of the mall was in focus (huge overhang) the rest in front and behind were not. I guess the autofocus picks out the biggest object. With the Minox BN 7x50's in the shopping mall, everything was razor sharp in focus all the way from the closest to the furthest object. No contest!! I am going to take mine to the Grand Prix later in the year; the Formula 1 cars will be permanently in focus the whole time!!Oh yes they are also waterproof down to 5 metres in water!!Update: At work, I have them lying down rather than standing up in case I knock them over. Just a good hint. If laying them down, lay them upside down and then the rubber eye guards will not bend out of place with being squashed.
