The lock is strong enough that only an angle grinder can open it. It has a gold star rating and is one of the bike locks that insurance companies will accept as a good enough lock to insure you with.some people complain that it has problems getting stuck in certain positions and will not lock and unlock sometimes. The lock has ridges that turn on the inside of the key chamber. I have found that if you just push the key down and turn the key it eventually falls into place and can be unlocked.I have now had this for 3 years almost and I have no complaints about it other than the bracket often drops the lock while I am riding. I have decided not to install the bracket on my latest bike and just to keep it in my bag while I am riding.I understand this may not be convenient for everyone but it works for me as I ride with a bag from work. For the reason of the bracket and slight issue with the key turning (which is not really an issue really) I have rated this 4 stars. it has been a durable lock for me and this is why I have decided to review it now.

Brought this lock for its gold standard which validated my cycle travel insurance and since most other gold or indeed silver standard locks cost near on half the value of the average bike I gambled on this lock to secure my cycle tour around Spain and France. The link is heavy which could be an issue for some however gave me added assurance. It has a long 'U' which I found handy enabling me to lock my bike to more objects with ease or double up your front wheel to your back. What really comes in handy is the long and tough cable that you can attach to the D lock, this enabled me to lock my trailer to the bike on my travels. As others may have highlighted the locking mechanism is a little temperamental but nothing a little 'jiggle'won't sort out, in 4 years of regular use this has only been a minor inconvenience though. All in all if you can still grab one of these for a good price I strongly recommend you do, it may be heavy but not as heavy as that feeling you get when you find your beloved bikes been nicked.

I notice that quite a few people have had keys stuck in locks etc. I find that if I just align the slots, push in the key and open it all works best if you use the minimal pressure possible. If I try and open it by using any force then difficulties start. If, however, I simply let the key almost fall into the lock using a feather light touch, on my lock, there really is no problem.I never used the bracket as the lock was too long for my frame.I actually thread it around the seat post, and around a back fork (through the top triangle behind the seat). The lock then lies next to the frame and keeps out of my way.I have this lock and another D lock and a kryptonite cable so at least two locksneed to be compromised before the bike can be taken.I've also gone back to an old bike my first one being stolen (before I got D locks) and I'm happy that this lock keeps the bike safe and being Gold Secure Standard is good enough for my insurance purposes should the bike get stolen or the lock compromised.

The orange and black plastic casing around the flat side of the lock cracked within a week of use -- probably from bouncing around in my metal basket. There's a plastic bit around the keyhole that sometimes gets misaligned, but once you get used to twisting it back with your key before locking or unlocking it is fine. I think it actually might be intentional (the lock is advertised as being hard to pick). For the price, this is a great lock. Gold sold secure for the same price as a lock with no security rating. My bike has yet to be stolen, which I consider a sign of success. I would have rather the plastic casing not cracked, but as the metal beneath is still fine, that isn't really a problem from a safety standpoint.I never even tried using the mount for the lock, which some other reviewers said was faulty.Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. Strong lock and extra cable for the price of a weak lock. I feel safe locking my bike with this and leaving it.

Like the last reviewer the slots weren't aligned, for me when I received it, but with a bit of twisting the key around this was sorted. They are a bit loose but as long as you know thats whats happened its easy to get around and if someone stole your key they might give up...so its even more secure.Definately looks one of the strongest locks around, not sure about the lifetime guarantee but I hope I don't need it anyway. The flex cable definately comes in handy with a quick release front wheel...depending on bike size and where you put the main lock it can seem a bit short, but if thats too much of an issue you could always buy a longer one as its a bonus and the only "sold secure" bit is the D-lock.I haven't used the carrier, but it does look a bit flimsy compared to the lock, I just put it in my bag.Basically even with a couple of niggles, its got to be one of the best locks in this price range.

I bought this lock following two bikes being stolen from where I work and at the time I only had a cheap lock. I initially considered buying an Abus lock from evans but they are expensive and a work colleague said they had got a gold standard one from Halfords for a fraction of the price of the Abus ones which were also only silver secure. This is a chunky lock and with the cable means that I can lock the front and back wheels. There were some reviews about the lock mechanism sticking which occassionally it feels like it does but by taking the key out and rotating it and putting it back in or gently wiggling the key/bottom of the d-lock it unlocks everytime. The gold standard should also satisfymost insurance companies that the bike is/was securely locked.

I've read quite a few bad reviews about this lock, but I've had it for over a year now and think it's doing a great job. It fits through the rear of the frame and wheel to secure both the frame and wheel to a solid object and I have confidence leaving my bike with this lock. Some people have complained about a poor key quality; I did notice mine being slightly stiff once but I was at home and WD40ed it. Since then I've had no problems and it feels smooth. It's a good price for a lock with does the job you need without being too heavy. It does rattle slightly on its mount if you're going fast on a rough surface,so it's losing a star for that.Overall I'm happy with this lock and use it to secure an expensive bike.

The MASTERLOCK STREET FORTUM Gold Secure D Lock with cable, is an essential low-cost but effective piece of dual security for my cycle. As the Lock is sold secure Gold rated - it fully complies to my insurers lock rating demands. The on-bike lock-holder means the lock is held firmly & out of the way while cycling. The D lock if placed through the wheel and frame to lock the cycle means all aspects of the bike are secured when I run the additional cable through the front wheel securing each end through back to the D lock. It is both a visual & active deterrent. it came with anti-pick keys and the keyhole has a weather-slide to protect it.Master Lock Street Fortum Gold Sold Secure D Lock 280x110mmwith 1200x10mm cable

I needed a lock for the insurance on my bike. This one was really well priced, I couldn't find a cheaper one anywhere on the internet (it was on offer). I like the extra lead that helps when securing the bike and means you can attached both wheels and the frame to most hings. Still haven't worked out how to attach it to my bike, the instructions aren't clear and the places they suggest aren't suitable for my Scott Speedster, it already has gear/brake wires and things in the places they suggest. It's also bloody heavy to carry so sorting out the fittings is s priority. Other than that excellent value for money.

Bought this from Amazon and delighted with the price. The cable i use to secure the front wheel and a Gold Secure Rating sold it for me.One thing i have noticed is some reviews complain about breaking keys in the locks etc. This can only be done if you are hamfisted and hashy and don't ensure the two pronged ends are fully secure in the lock housing. If it sticks then don't force it.Apply a small amount of lubricant to the lock and close the keyhole with the plastic slider to keep any water and dirt out.Overall very pleased.I have not used the supplied frame bracket because i feel it ratttles too much.

My insurance company required a sold secure "Silver rated" lock before they would insure my bike being left at the railway station. This is the cheapest Sold Secure lock I could find. As a bonus it was gold rated and also came with a 1.2m flex cable to secure the wheels. The lock, as the other reviews state isn't the same as the one in the picture. The received one looks the same but has a "10" rating instead of the "9" shown in the picture, better lock I guess.Last thing to be clear on. The flex cable that comes with it is not "Sold Secure".

This lock is great value for money. It is Gold Sold Secure approved, which often helps with getting bike insurance, and the additional cable means you can lock the front quick release wheel too.A useful feature is that the key hole has an easy to use slidable plastic cover so that the mechanism is protected from the elements. I have previously bought a D-lock for £15ish which lasted only a month or so of winter before the lock mechanism had rusted to almost beyond use. This is much longer lasting, and so much better value for money.

Had this lock for three years and it has proved effective and secure. It does require an occasional drop of oil to keep the lock mechanism functioning smoothly, as the key does have a tendency to rotate within the lock and can be a little tricky to lock and unlock. I somehow managed to get the lock stuck in my bike frame and to remove I had to resort to an angle grinder. This went through the metal in a couple of minutes, so if a thief uses one of these your bike will be quickly gone - but this probably applies to all locks.

I have used this lock every day for about a year now. It's been keeping my bike safe in London through rain, snow, hot and cold. No problems whatsoever. I haven't had any problems with the locking mechanism getting stuck and this is after locking and unlocking it probably almost a 1000 times by now. I feel very safe with locking my bike with this. My bike has been locked up all day, every day in Central London, and it's still there. Very happy with the value for money I've got from this.

I bought an expensive bicycle and wanted to know that it would be there when I came back. I got an estimate from an insurance company which was £90 cover for the year and the bike had to be secured by this type of lock. The lock itself is very robust and I have concluded that there is little likelihood of the bike being stolen while the lock is on. The lock is also very reasonably priced against many others of this class. Don't lose the key, although it does come with 4.
