The masterlock square chain and mini u lock is first and foremost, solid, I purchased it for £30, considering some locks themselves cost £30 is awesome, no attempts on the chain "in the field" (out and about etc) in the last 2 years, coupling this with my other U lock really relaxes my mind knowing I have the best possible setup for a very average bike, the bike still belongs to me and so i could say this chain is better than any police officer you might phone or see about your bike getting robbed. i look to make it difficult for a thief, it isn't indestructible obviously like no lock or chain in the world but it is a good compromise for price,weight and size considerationstypically there are no limitations for what you might need this for, a gate, a work ladder, motorbike, scooter, anything out in public that needs securing in your absence.You really can't trust anyone these days and so I don't take my bike anywhere where I can't lock it to something, I always choose a bike rack somewhere even if it means a longer walk and with this lock, each and every time I have returned to my bike in confidence, it's up to the job, i wrap it round my handlebars and the weight is not too much or too light that you can't feel it nor too heavy that it slows me down riding or gives backache lifting it off the floor or anything like thatit is fairly ugly like all locks are you know? .. in an ideal world, I don't want to bother with any lock or any hassle with keys but I bought this because faith in humanity is lost when it comes to theft... like i said, it has secured my ride for a very long time and also worth a mention is the key operation is very smooth, no fuss, key retention let's you not have to double check it's locked, as the straight part comes off from the U, double locking is more secure than single, requiring 2 cuts instead of 1 .. hopefully it never comes to that but I rely on this chain regulary and all the oppurtunists with their little screwdriver are bitter dust in the wind and that's all that i want to achieve is remove oppurtunist threat,for the determined, sophisticated tool wielding thief all chains have been broken off but i don't worry about them because we know they are after the Specialized, Orbea, Merida, Trek model bikes which are high valueit's a fantastic chain, I would definitely buy it again if broken as has "paid for itself" in many ways, very good for a low to mid range bike value.. no problems whatsoever. I have looked for faults but can't find any, worth the money, good value, good quality and everything.

Very sturdy, very strong and robust as they come. I purchased this lock after having a bicycle stolen in the city, with this attached to my frame I never even worried once with the new bike. It is just long enough to go around the frame and front wheel against a standard bicycle rack frame, with a D-lock around the rear frame and rear wheel, fully securing the bike. The little D-lock feels a little wobbly when you use the key, and needs lubrication with WD-40 or similar before use to make sure it turns freely.A major consideration for this lock is the weight, I found it was fine to drape over the handle bars, for users with a light framed bike this could be a challenge,but it was fine for a mountain bike and a small price to pay for the extra security.

Fortunately I haven't had any attempts on either the chain or the lock so I cannot say how effective it is at resisting attacks. However it seems very robust and is long enough to loop around the wheel, the frame and most bike stands. The nylon covering is protective enough that the paint on my bike hasn't been scratched. As for the lock, I haven't had any issues.At this point in time I can't help but recommend it.

A good solid alternative to a bicycle D Lock. The central lock mechanism on the small D lock helps with security and the chain links appear formidable. As for weight, this is not that heavy when compared to something like a Kryptonite D Lock. Easy enough to carry on the shoulder or a backpack. Coupled with a cable or chain for the front wheel, it should prove to be more than adequate.

Great lock. When it turned up it was much chunkier than I was expecting. I think just looking at the links on this will put most thieves off! It's heavier than I thought it would be but that's the price you pay for security. To those wanting to know how heavy it is like I was its 2.2kg or 4 pounds which is like just over 2 bags of sugar!

Strong lock, cant imagine anyone cracking into this without being seen. took me long enough the first time of use to realise that the lock had a double barrelled key hole. very strong. only downside is its heavy and cumbersome but i guess thats what you need for a strong bike lock. 5/5.

Reassuringly heavy and the lock opens and closes nicely. Several months of use with no problems. No one has attempted to cut through it yet, so I have no idea how well it would hold up. It's Sold Secure Silver rated, but I double this with a SSS rated U-lock, just to be safe.

This is a great lock. Very study, easy to handle thanks to the mini U-bar compared with some other chains locks. Sold Secure rating = silver. If you want a light-weight lock, don't take this one, as it is quite heavy. But if you want a lock that does the job, take this one!

Still only Sold Secure Silver, but unless you want a Kryptonite large and even heavier shackle bolt it should stop any kind of opportunity theft.I only need it for short periods of time when I am out and about and off the bike.

I've only had it a few days but it seems pretty solid. It's sort of heavy but not more than you'd imagine given the image. It feels very solid. I wouldn't take it out on a long ride but that's not the point!

Great value for a really strong lock. Length means it's easy to securely lock your bike to almost anything. Not ideal if you want to cycle carrying it because it's heavy but brilliant for lock and leave.

This is an extremely heavy lock and you get four keys. I wouldn't want to carry it around on my person but I can't imagine any casual thief stealing my bike by breaking this lock.

This chain&lock set seems secure and it is long enough for a bike. It is a bit on a heavy side and making the chain longer would not help it, so I'd say the length is perfect.

Apart from feeling like Mr.T when I pull this chain out of my bag, the sheer weight and sturdiness of the lock reassures me that the bike will be safe. A worthy investment.

I've been using this lock for a couple of years. Really good. Yes it's relatively heavy, but that's what you want - a heavy, strong chain!Definitely would recommend
