During a recent bike overhaul, it was pretty much mandatory that I needed to replace the bar tape. As a result, I thought it would be worth forking out for what is described by many as probably the best bar tape available on the market today; Lizard Skins DSP. Coming in a wide range of colours, I opted for red to match the colours of my bike. The bar tape itself retails for £28 in high street shops, but being an avid internet shopper, I got mine from wiggle for around £21.First impressions are very positive indeed. The bar tape comes well packaged, with a sample of the tape attached the the front of the packet, so the potential buyer can 'feel' the tape before buying. Not quite so important when buying online, but great if you are in a high street store. Lizard Skins state in their product description that the tape is made from 'DuraSoft polymer' (and I'm not entirely clear what this means) but suspect it must imply that that the bar tape is going provide a comfortable overall feel. Included in the box are two cuts of tape (one for each handle, of course), two bar end plugs and two Lizard Skins stickers to cover the black tape used to finish the taping process (more on this in a movement). Also included are two further pieces of bar tape, measuring ~2 inches each, and I am not entirely sure what these are for!The bar tape it self is very well made and a huge upgrade from the stock bar tape I had on my bike, both in look and feel. It is 2.5mm thick, although there is a 3.5mm version, too. It is embossed with the lizard skin logo and pattern, which looks great and provides a larger surface area which enhances your grip. The red colour I opted for is vibrant, and has an overall very well polished and shiny look. Most bar tapes are finished with black electrical tape on the handle bars, which can look unsightly. Fortunately, this pack comes with two red lizard logo stickers which can be wrapped around to cover the black electrical tape. This gives the tape a very nice finish indeed, and a little uniqueness, too. The feel of the tape is incredible, and riding is a lot more comfortable now with both gripping the handle bar and reducing vibration from uneven surfaces. One gripe I did have with the tape was the handle bar ends, which kept on popping out. I tried a number of ways to help secure these in the handle bars (including wrapping the ends in tape for a more snug fit), with little luck. In the end, I somehow managed to force them in and had to almost forcefully hammer them in with my palm. They now seem to be a little put, and here is hoping that they stay where they are!Conclusively, I can definitely recommend the Lizard Skins bar tape if you are looking for enhancing your riding comfort or simply want make your bike look that little bit more pretty.

In cycling, White is the new Black right now. White bikes, white saddles, white stems, and even white handlebars covered in (and completely obscured by) white tape. My new mountain bike - designed to spend most of its life in the dirt - is painted white. Obviously there are problems with this trend. Within 6 months of getting my road bike, the white tape it came with was starting to yellow and deteriorate. I had seen a positive review online of the DSP bar tape and a local shop also recommended it as well, so I decided to give it a try.I have only been using the tape for two months, but at this point I couldn't be happier with the product. In fact, I just ordered more to put on my cyclocross bike. The extra thickness of the DSP tape helps make rough roads more pleasant. Also, the synthetic material remains easy to grip even with damp or sweaty gloves. I can't tell much about durability at this point, but I suspect the extra thickness will lead to a longer life for this bar tape as well. Also, for those of you that are into the trend of everything white, I am told by the bike shop that the synthetic material in the DSP tape stays white longer than most of the other stuff on the market.

Nice bar tape, but don't pull on it too hard when installing. Found out the hard way that this stuff stretches but will snap with no warning if it is stretched too far. Fortunately for me, it popped close to the brake hood so i tucked it under and mooved on. Also, it is a good idea to clean the handlebar super clean before application and hold the bars with a clean rag while wrapping. Otherwise, the oils/sweat from the hands can inhibit the stickum on the tape from sticking. The lack of stick could become apparent as pressure on the bar while riding could cause slippage, manifesting in unsightly gaps with naked bar exposed. The grip is uncanny though. Allows a more relaxed grip on the bar, resulting in less hand fatigue and more variety in hand positioning. Sounds far-fetched but its true.Good looking super saturated color matches my bike graphics nicely.Just be sure to watch a couple of videos on YouTube if you haven't wrapped bars in a while and do NOT stretch it too much.

Got this tape to replace the stock cork tape on my Cannondale. I was looking for something with some cushion and this won. Install was easy, although I wish they made it about 6 inches longer. The tape does not have much stretch at all, so it took a few tries to get enough coverage on the top of my bars. Some extra length would allow it to be wrapped with more of an overlap for additional cushion. This tape has about 300 miles on it and I have had no issues. I ride with gloves and in dry it is very tacky and comfortable. In the rain the tape is adequate. I did not experience it getting slippery, as I have read in other reviews. To me it is a great alternative to standard cork and is a little more user friendly than the gel pads that can be added to the bars.Again, the only real issue is that it could be longer for some more flexibility in wrapping.

I wound up taping up my handlebars myself. I will say that I really wish it had come with another 6+ inches of tape as it would have made it a little easier. Instead I spent over an hour making sure each overlap was just right so that it would extend as far as it needed to. But that is a very small nitpick.I personally love the way the red Lizard Skins DSP Bar Tape looks on my bike. While my bike is not even six months old, it looks so much better than the tape the bike store put on it. This tape is very cushiony and grippy. I took it out on a 23 mile ride yesterday after putting the new tape on. It performed great! In fact I swear that I felt less vibration in the handlebars due to this higher end tape. Now, that could just be "buyer's excitement." So, I'll report back down the road if my opinion changes.

I love this bar tape. It's grippy with hands even if they are slightly wet from sweat or water. I still wear gloves because when my hands are really wet they can slip. The cushion is great on this tape, again I don't need gloves. I will ride with this tape without wearing cycling gloves on cooler days however it's that cushioned and water RESISTANT that you really don't need them.I have an orange and black bike and the orange tape color works well. Now I have not had it long to see if it cleans well however given the finish on the outside I believe it will. That said after just a few rides there's no dirt on it either.

Lizard Skin is the best, grippiest, most comfortable & hardersring bartape i’ve ever used. It just requires careful application. Most of the one star reviews here are from people who have applied the tape poorly, either by not holding enough tension on the tape while applying it (pull tight but don’t stretch) or because they haven’t allowed enough overlap on the curved section of bar. Because this stuff doesn’t go on like other tape it’s understandable that people get it wrong. However with some care it’s well worth it. A roll almost always last me a full year, and that’s always over 8000 miles. Highly recommended.

My wife loves the color of the tape.It is easy to work with and wrap I wish they would stop skimping on the length of the tape. Make it just a foot longer per side and there would be enough to do a proper brake hood cross over wrap and not use the stupid little "cheater" strips for covering the brake clamps.Once on the bike it is very comfortable and lasts quite a while. I like that I can wash it for a mid year refresh without purchasing more tape.Yea the initial investment is greater than a good cork tape but this will last long enough to offset that cost.

Have read a few reviews of different bar tape and went for this due to some good reviews.Upon receiving the bar tape I was a little unsure due to the finish and didn't really think it work that well. I am very pleasantly surprised that this bar tape is as good as they say.Fitting was simple enough, watched a video first, following the guide and fitting the bar tape is still in place and has performed well so far, even in the wet.Overall a very good bar tape and I would use it again, might not look grippy due to the finish but it sure is!!

I was surprised when I received two packages of these. So I have a total of 4 rolls of tape. For the stated price of $31. I don't think the description was very clear on that. Installation was pretty standard. Because this tape is a bit thicker you're less likely to stretch it. There are warning tags about this. I had to redo my first side twice before I got the overlap right so that I didn't run short of tape. The other side of the bars came out great the first time. Too cold for my ancient knees to get putside yet.

I bought these a year ago. They have great grip and have a good amount of cushioning to absorb shock from cracks and curbs. You can't beat the color either, they look fantastic. I put quite a bit of punishment on them and they only started peeling and showing the white interior right at the end. I wrapped them incorrectly, so they started to unravel after a few months. I bought a new set to replace them and wrapped them better this time. The price is more than others but I don't mind due to the perks.

I gave this bar tape 4 stars because I really like it. It looks great on my bikes, comes in different colors and thicknesses, has a nice grip, and is comfortable. The only bad thing is that the stuff is just expensive. There are comparable bar tapes on the market that produce the same results with out costing so much. So even though I really like the Lizard skins DSP. I no longer use it as I have found cheaper options that work just as well, last just as long, and are just as comfortable as this tape.

Once you start using this no other bar wrap will compare. It's typically about 5-10 more than any other wrap, but well worth it. It's so nice a cushy. Also, even though the package says you can't... You can un-wrap and re-wrap your bars over and over with this stuff in case you want to move your hoods or something. also it seems like the more you sweat the better this stuff works. I ride with out gloves and never have a problem with slippage on this wrap. I promise you'll like it.

-Packaging is great.-Sticky back is not too strong for repositioning nor too weak for minimal movement.-Plenty of length for all bars applications.-Includes end tape for a clean finish.-Bar caps are plastic and very weak. Make sure you use care when installing and use only your palm, not a mallet or alternative tool.-If installed properly, this product has minimum to no movement on the bar.-Comfortable and sweat resistant.-Many colors to choose from.9/10!!!!

This bar tape is exactly how I like it, soft and squishy but with a sticky grip, IMHO.I had the white, and it was staying relatively clean, but then I got a pair of Specialized Body Geometry Gel gloves that have a very black palm, and it comes off on the white tape. So I bought the Black 2.5 It is a bit tricky to get it on 100% correct (the white was installed at my LBS). It could be a bit longer, but I made it work after several rewraps.
