As ever ! KMC (supplier to Shimano in Europe just rebadged - not a widely known fact !!) is one of the Worlds top 5 chain manufacturers. Having ridden since I could walk and balance on a bike (50 years), I’ve tried everything from the stuff fitted from the factory in the ‘70’s (shudder) to using 10 and 11 speed chains on my carbon bikes - worlds and worlds apart as you would expect after all those years. However, I’ve ridden thousands of miles (mainly abroad in France and Belgium - Sportive and “holidays”) and I’ve never ever had a single problem with any KMC chain. Belt and braces I always carry a multi tool with chain breaker and a spare “missing link” but I’ve never ever had to resort to using one.I’ve lost more than I care to remember as they get put out in “safe places” as space is critical riding bikes long distance, then when I get home and strip the luggage down etc, I tend to put them in a safe place .... you know the feeling ?Like any quality chain, keep it spotless (I wipe mine whilst on the road and get as much detritus off as I can) but the second I get home, the chain comes off and gets an overnight soak in a mix of petrol and cellulose thinners. I give it a good wash and scrub with a 1” paintbrush then remove the chain, dispose of the dirty chain cleaning solution and do it again but let it soak overnight.I do the same next morning but just flush it with thinners (it removes the petrol residue and evaporates to nothing in a few mins.) I remove the rear cassette and do the same and it sparkles. It’s worth the hassle as it stops wear and there is nothing worse than a gritty chain on a gritty cassette :-((The thinners does a brilliant job and as stated, dries in no time but I like to leave the chain a few hours so it dries out from between the rollers. The front chain rings are big enough to leave in place and clean like the Crown Jewels.Apply your favourite lube (a tiny drop and I mean tiny - you don’t need to splash it everywhere - it attracts grit and is dirty, gets all over your back tyre and wasteful), and away you go again (a lovely job to do on Saturday afternoons and leave overnight ready for reassembly on Sunday mornings - The Archers in the background on Radio 4 - bliss - come the summer we move it forward a day so we get Sunday out on the road :-))I will be fitting this KMC chain to a Giant MTB “workhorse” - to go to work on and panniers fitted I can go shopping too. Add a rucksack and a rack pack and there is some weight being put through that chain - I MUST be confident in any KMC chain eh ??Keep it spotless - use a quality lube and wipe it as often as you can !! Keep the grit off and you can get 5000 to 6000 miles out of a chain like this. The time spent means other components last longer too (front and rear mechs / chain rings and rear cassettes) so it IS worth it !!May I also add (I have no connection whatsoever with Y Frame Discounts apart from constantly receiving 1st class customer service, rapid dispatch and if you ever need to contact them it’s one ring on the phone and it’s answered of a reply to an email within the hour - with service like that, it’s worth staying with an excellent supplier (I’ve never had a problem where I’ve ever needed to return anything but I had a technical question - which was answered in minutes and I subsequently went ahead and purchased the item I had a question with !) - it arrived, fitted and is still rolling on a daily basis - you can’t fault them !!

Replaced a generic 8speed chain with this and it does the job but took a few good long rides to bed in.Can't say impressed with all the claims. If anything seems slightly more jerky when shifting gears and the front derailer needed tiny adjustment to stop it pushing this chain off which it wasn't with previous chain. Not too impressed with the lube applied either. Its very sticky stuff which is a good in a way but even though I made a point off wiping off the excess it still collected a lot of crud the first few rides. Seems to clean up eventually with wiping clean after each ride to remove some the surface crap.[Adding 2016]Couple months ago on a different new bike managed snap a chain and the nearest shop only had these KMC chains or silly expensive ones in stock so went for the slightly cheaper KMC X8-93. Perhaps KMC has acted on the feedback and improved things because there was basically no excess grease this time, only slight tackiness and seems much tighter and smoother than previous experience with the -99.Feels this time like a decent standard work horse chain so have raised to 4* from 3. At least wouldn't avoid another -93 based on the newer one had.

I bought this as I wanted a nice shiny chain for my 8 speed as the one that came with it was black and quickly started to get specs of rust as it wasn't coated. This chain comes with a very useful quick link, so a chain splitter is not required other than to to set the initial length of the chain for your bike. (Google "Sheldon Brown" for a great website on how to set up your bike.)This chain performs well for me and the split link makes removal a cinch. I bought my first one from my Local Bike Shop but bought another from Amazon as a spare, as bicycle parts change with alarming frequency and what is cheap and available now might have to be imported in a few years time.I've got nothing bad to say about this chain at all. :-)

Very speedy delivery. I fitted the chain in minutes after reducing the length to fit easily enough with a chain link remover. The quick link made joining the chain together really easy. The ride is very smooth and so, I would recommend buying this chain if you want a chain that will work as hard as you do and looks good at the same time!

For my single speed Mtb and Brompton this is my 'go to' chain. Runs smoothly and lasts well with very little evidence of corrosion after a year or more of use. I always use KMC chains as I have found them to perform better than others and are usually very competitively priced; this 8 speed version is no exception.

Change my chain & cassette at the same time two months ago. Chain fitted easily with quick link although I did have to shorten it.Gear shifting is very smooth & a plus point is because it is shiny I can see the amount of dirt on it after my ride & whether I have got it all off when I clean it.
