I initially gave this cap 4 stars, commenting that it while it is attractive, it's noisy and impractical unless you truly need a low profile cap. However, I've given this cap another chance, and now believe that it's a surprisingly helpful accessory if you use Klean Kanteen for most of your fluid consumption. The regular plastic loop cap works great with water, but it has numerous and deep crevices, making it a nightmare with many drink mixes. In particular, if you've ever tried mixing a shake in a Kanteen, you probably regretted it when you had to clean up. The all-metal cap uses a plug design, making it an "outie" rather than an "innie" cap. No crevices.Even thick protein shakes with milk mix up evenly without clumps or crud left behind when using this cap, and it drips less when removed after shaking.Being all-metal seemed gimmicky at first, but after some experience I also find this cap is just generally easier to clean and it accumulates a lot less crud throughout the day, especially (again) if you mix sports drinks or other powders in it. It's much easier to keep clean of dust when on the trail as well; the plastic cap has sharp corners around the threads that require either a brush or pressure to clean well, both things you may not have available when backpacking, but the metal cap has smooth, low profile threads with curved edges that can be wiped clean with your fingers. The plastic cap also sometimes leaves thin plastic shavings in the bottle threads if you turn it tight; this all-metal cap obviously doesn't have that issue.Main drawbacks are that it's noisy when recapping the kanteen (metal clanging, squeaking), which may feel disruptive in a quiet environment, and the metal loop is much less comfortable to hook with your finger if you like to carry the bottle that way. The latter problem can obviously be remedied by taping or wrapping the loop, should you so desire. Alternatively, the bamboo/metal cap offers the same all-metal plug and a hinged metal ring that's much more comfortable on the fingers. This cap is much more easily appreciated when it's not viewed as a vanity upgrade, or as a full replacement for the plastic cap, but rather as a practical and easily cleaned alternative.

UPDATE:I ordered this an originally reviewed in 2012. In 2017, I can add the following info:Cap has held up well through years of daily usage. It has been easy to keep clean, much easier than other KK caps. The only problem, unfortunately the loop is attached with only a few tiny welds, so breaks off fairly easily. Mine has never been used to hang the bottle nor used to open beers, and it came off easily. I'd still buy it again regardless just because of how easy it is to keep this thing clean. It's the only cap I use on my classic water bottles.ORIGINAL REVIEW:This cap is a nice upgrade to a KK Classic bottle. Visually speaking it looks great on your bottle. As far as offering benefits over other cap options? It offers two things...1) It's the easiest cap to keep clean and to wash. Unlike the plastic caps, it has no hollow recessed areas that require extra work to clean. Unlike the previous stainless cap, which was a hybrid of plastic and steel, it's on piece so there is no fear of anything finding it's way between the two pieces.2) It works perfectly as a beer bottle opener. The cap itself is not very heavy, and the loop is sturdy - clearly no reason to worry about that breaking. The only worry, if you can even call it one, is that it's quite noisy when you remove or replace the cap to drink (metal on metal). You can minimize this by keeping a firm grasp on the neck of the KK when manipulating the cap, but it will never be as quiet as the plastic caps. Not a deal breaker but something to consider if that sort of thing matters to you.

I'm a road cyclist. And I have been looking for a water bottle that can keep my water cold during my ride. I've gone through polar bear, camel back and none can keep my water cold after more than 1hr ride. I looked into insulated bottle from Hydro Flask, but I don't like their sport cap, and with that cap, the bottle is not insulated as good as the other cap. I looked at Klean Kanteen bottle, but the one with a sport cap isn't insulated bottle. After reading review here, some reviewer said that this cap works with hydro flask bottle, particularly the 21 inch bottle. Without hesitation I bought two of these cap to go along with my 21 inch and 12 inch Hydro flask bottle. Boy, It didn't disappoint me.Not only now, I have ice cold water during my long ride, the cap pours good amount of water without you try to suck it too much. The tip is soft and felt nice on your lips. And you easily push the tip using your teeth to close it with one hand. I don't plan to put this on my backpack or gym bag or any kind of bag. The bottle is only going to sit on my bottle cage on my bike. So I'm not too concern about leaking like some other reviewers said. In my experience, the water doesn't leak when I drink it during the ride. It sealed pretty good and no leak whatsoever. The only place the water comes out is through the tip of the cap. So if you are looking for an insulated bottle to keep your water cold during a long hot ride, get this cap with hydro flask bottle. They are a perfect match.

I am trying to become more of a minimalist when I go camping/backpacking and one way that I have found to do so is with this. I own a 40 ounce brushed stainless steel Klean Kanteen and this stainless steel cap completes the set. Let me explain. When I go backpacking in areas that are fire-ring friendly, I create my fire and use my 40 ounce canteen as a way to boil my water for my freeze dried meals. Before with the cap that comes with all Klean Kanteens, a plastic cap, I had to remove the cap and hope that ash and bugs didn't fall into my water. Plus, I had to keep flashing a light into the bottle to see if the water was boiling yet. Now with this cap,I just take off the clear o-ring and put this cap almost completely tight on my Klean Kanteen and when the water finally boils the cap actually starts to jump a bit and the tinkering of the metal cap on the metal Kanteen lets me know it is ready. Great way to boil water, but I'd advise you use only red hot coals to boil water, if you use the flame of burning sticks or wood it will blacken your Klean Kanteen and it isn't fun trying to clean off sappy soot residue from your Kanteen. Pricey, but used this way, I would have paid double for it.

I purchased 2 of these caps, based on reviews, for my 2 new Klean Kanteen Classic Insulated 20-Ounce Stainless Steel Bottle With Loop Cap that I purchased a few days prior. The loop cap that comes with the bottle is great, however, removing the lid EACH time I wanted to take a drink was not very efficient. I am thankful I only had to use the loop cap one day before my sports cap arrived. Oh yes - so much better. When they arrived they were packaged well and the boxes they are originally packaged in were intact and the product was in perfect shape. I washed the caps in hot soapy water and even let them soak a bit. After a good rinse I was ready to use the cap.* I felt the cap fit well.* The spout has a good snug fit.It takes a little bit of effort to open and close - as it should as it won't get knocked open and leak.* I didn't get any funky plastic taste - my water tasted clean and crisp (and it was COLD).* When the cap is closed I can turn the bottle upside down and shake it with not a drop of water escaping.* The cap makes it MUCH more convenient to use the bottle and access the liquid.I am pleased with my purchase and feel it enhances the bottles usability.

How we use it: Sports, work, hiking, and travel. I have two Kleen Kanteens, both 20oz. I use one for iced tea at work, every single day. The tea is kept cold and the bottle holds up to my abuse well. I use the standard cap and the seal and cap are great - no issues and easy to clean. The other Kleen Kanteen is used for water when I hike, run, or plan to explore a new city. The drinks stay cold for the entire time and the bottle is easy to lug around.I bought these bottles (all 20oz) for my family to use on a cruise. The bottles would still had ice in them the next day! This bottle is no joke for keeping things cold. My children use the bottles for sports. They LOVE time outs more when they have ice cold water or gatorade waiting on them - no matter what sport or temperature. In every aspect of my every day life (work, sports, travel, fun), these bottles are part of it. I appreciate one less thing to worry about and one more thing to count on!For cleaning, I hand clean the bottles and use a dissolving tab to take care of any tea stains (tea stains everything). This doesn't take long and is well worth the benefits of this bottle.

Took a chance ordering this sports cap for another brand's insulated bottle, buy it was well worth it and fits PERFECTLY on the Simple Modern 20 oz Ascent water bottle. I am so happy with this because the bottle would have been ok without it, but for my purposes (on the go), I REALLY wanted to have the sports cap. And the SM sports cap is not even an option since it's literally just a smaller cap. I wanted this particular style. I don't have previous versions to compare it to, but the 3.0 "no chirp" lid is amazing! Water flows nicely and doesn't have the slurping sound this style can make. I haven't had a problem losing the rubber valve, but I can see how if the little ball breaks off it would be gone and lost (or if it gets pushed into the lid). It's a little tough to pull up to open for my 5yo, buy not for me. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE that it has not leaked even a drop. I have thrown it into my bag and on the passenger seat in my car and not a drop! This is my first experience with Kleen Kanteen, but I'm sold now and going to purchase their smaller bottle and green sports cap for my daughter to take to school in the fall!

I purchased this cap to accompany my insulted klean kanteen, being that it came with a plastic cap I was comfortable using it with hot liquids(just my opinion). And also seeing that they Do NOT recommend using this stainless steel cap with hot liquids I ignored that since I really wanted an all stainless steel bottle and cap for ease of cleaning and other things. Seeing that it was a one piece design and that it had trapped air inside they are right not to recommend it with hot liquids as a build up if pressure inside could be concerning. MY SOLUTION was to drill a small whole in the top of the cap (with a drill made for drilling metels) to releive any pressure build up.Put a little masking tape over the whole to keep dust and dirt out and now I have a home made safty pressure release. Have used it several time with very hot cocoa and issues.NOTE:IF YOU DO USE WITH HOT LIQUIDS KEEP UPRIGHT, so that the liquid is not touching the cap and making it too hot to touch. HAS NOT BEEN AN USSUE WITH ME BUT COULD SEE IT AS A POSSIPBLE ISSUE, as metels conduct heat better than plastic.

This cap is great. I wanted the steel cap for years but couldn't justify the luxury purchase on myself. My huge Klean Kanteen fell off a shelf at work and onto a concrete floor. This fall snapped my sippy cap in half and I needed to buy a new cap. My time had finally come! I ordered the steel loop cap asap. I opted for name brand even though the thrifty person in me is curious about the one generic bamboo cap on here I figured go with what was made for my bottle. This cap is great, seals perfectly and while there is a sound screwing the cap on, I do not find it annoying at all. My only surprise was kind of an idiot moment for me. I thought a solid steel cap would be solid steel. This would be too heavy to be practical but with the solid bottom I assumed that was how it would be. This cap is as light as the plastic models, it is made from a molded welded hollow steel which makes way more sense than what I had going on in my head. The weight is even in the ad but I never looked. Great purchase, highly recommended!

This is a basic drink-as-you-go cap that works very well. I actually use it with insulated bottles from Hydroflask. The threading happens to fit the Hydroflask 12 and 21 oz narrow mouth bottles just right (note - it will *not* fit the 18 oz, which uses a narrower cap for some reason, nor the wide mouth bottles). You need to screw it down firmly in order to prevent leakage. Aside from that one minor detail, these caps work perfectly and are very affordable. I use separate bottles for the car (12 oz), hiking and working outdoors (21 oz), at home and at the office (12 oz), and am about to order more tops to outfit the rest of my bottles.I use the bottles mostly to keep drinks cold. With a cold drink and one ice cube the original Hydroflask caps can keep a drink quite chilly for 24 hours (that's based on actual tests that I ran). The Klean Kanteen seem to work just as well in this department. In short, this is a no-nonsense cap that does exactly what I expect, does it very well, and has no unnecessary frills.

So happy I bought this. I needed this one for my 27oz Klean Kanteen because I had the standard loop cap. It is very difficult to drink solely out of your Klean Kanteen unless you are using this sports cap or pouring it into some sort off cup. Otherwise it kind of strains your neck because you have to hold your head too high in order to drink directly from the Kanteen. This obviously solved that problem for me.Another thing that is important obviously was to make sure that this cap does not leak when placed sideways or upside down in your bag. I heard from other reviewers that this cap keeps water inside 90% of the time which was a good thing.Personally so far I have ad no issues and am extremely happy with this sports cap.Additionally I am extremely astonished at the fact that this cap makes NO FUNNY SOUND when opening or closing your Klean Kanteen. Just for that I wish I could give this more stars, it really is a miracle and fulfills my Klean Kanteen experience for day to day use.

Pros: simple, no plastic (and therefore no gross bacteria smell/taste- the plastic one started to smell after a day even though I only use it for water), lightweight (lighter than the bamboo-topped one, making it less top-heavy for the large singke-walled bottles), easy to carry with one finger (though not as comfortable as the bamboo one), not that much noisier than the plastic lids if you are careful- lift it very slightly while screwing/unscrewing it and you won’t have as much metal-on-metal friction (and therefore less noise). Trust me on this- I have sensitive ears! Also don’t over-tighten it when closing.Cons: a little harder to open than the other stainless lid with bamboo, but really not that bad like some of the other reviews have said. Tip: if you have trouble opening loop caps (plastic or metal ones), put a pen/fork/chopstick through the loop and use that extra torque to turn the cap (I had to do this for my plastc cap, but so far haven’t had to do this yet for this one).

I bought this because I like the idea of no plastics, though I've never had a problem with the plastic lid of the kk - but this is my first foray into the non-insulated and I admit that part of me wanted the spiffy look of this cap vs the plastic. The plastic is hollow inside and I wonder how that will collect funk long term since it takes an act of congress to get me to wash my water bottle. However, I have to admit I'm using the plastic cap now. If you are like me and you grab the bottle around the neck with one finger in the hole you will understand. The loop on this cap isn't big enough for my finger and it's a little rough around the edges for a finger. I realize it's designed for a clip,I'm just telling it as my experience is. The cap itself is really nice looking and well made and I had no issues with leaking or threading. Also it's hollow, but not open. So underneath the part that touches your water is solid. I wish the loop was a tad bit bigger - I like the aesthetic/shape.

We purchased the Klean Kanteen bottles with sippy cup tops for my daughter (age 2, at the time). She used them for a solid year, and we'd lost the internal plastic valve for one of them. My search online brought these up and I thought she'd be ready for this. The sippy cups would leak if the detachable plastic cover was not on the outside (which was not great for throwing in our travel bag). Now 3.5, she loves the concept of this top - that she can control opening it and closing it, however, it's actually rather difficult to do. I can - as and adult - do it with some force, but she has a bit more trouble. So now, it's either open or closed, or she asks a million times for me to open or closed. That's the only drawback, which I think will go away as she gets larger and able to handle. The construction, fit, and design of every other aspect is all great and we've loved having the Klean Kanteen bottles, esp as an alternative to plastic.

I have had each cap version from Klean Kanten and this is definitely their best model yet. I bought these to try them and see if it is worthwhile to replace all of my 2.0 caps. I have to say that I was a little surprised at how quickly the water pours through the spout on the 3.0 cap. It is almost too fast. The cap is quiet enough that I am comfortable drinking from it even when people are talking during a meeting. Definitely way more quiet than the 2.0 version. Also my 2.0 caps would leak when closed. I purchased 2 of these 3.0 caps and neither of them leak even when held upsidedown and shaken. Will need to see if this keeps up over time.I also like the flexible rubber spout.I have had to replace caps in the past because my family or I have broken or chipped the spout. Hopefully this won't happen now. I will be replacing all the 2.0 caps with the upgraded version. I think the 3.0 improvements justify the cost.
