I'm breaking this down to try to make it simple...Complete: I would recommend a 'complete' aquarium kit if you are getting started as it is often more cost efficient, but note that this is only complete as a cold water tank - there is no heater, so if you want to run a tropical tank you will need to buy a separate heater (they are available). The first filter cartridge and some filter beads are included, but you will need to replace the cartridge monthly. In addition you will need either gravel or sand for the bottom of the tank, some decorative items (ideally with hiding places - like a cave) and some plants.Size: 19 litres is a very small tank (there are smaller out there!)and small tanks are harder to keep healthy - but if you clean it regularly and include a few helpful shrimp, it can work. This tank comfortably fits a good sized cave ornament with a few shells etc and still there is room for several plants. You will only want to keep a few fish in a tank this size though - 19cm total length so if you are going cold water that's 2 goldfish, and if you are going tropical then max 6 fish (barbs, harlequins etc) and 2 shrimp...Set up: Easy. The empty tank is lightweight. I have mine placed on a cut down bath mat to prevent drip damage to the furniture (this also keeps it stable as the mat is rubberised). It was straightforward to put everything inside because the whole lid flips open (and is hinged - which is really helpful). I added water with a bottle to prevent the sand messing up the water.Filter: The filter was not pre installed and the instructions were poor - but was easy to get going. Take the beads out of the bag and put in the dent in the filter box (see pic) then place fleece covered carbon filter on top. Fit the tube into the hole at the bottom of the filter box with the ridges at the bottom of the tube. I tried to open the motor casing (gently - didn't want to break it) as I usually need to clean the fan every 6 months or so... I couldn't open it so I think this would just have to be washed through with running water and occasionally replaced. On the plus side - very good flow rate and a large outlet - if you leave a decent fall there will be no problems with oxygenation of the water... however, this makes it a little noisy, so you will need to experiment with how full you want the tank. Easy to lift out to clean and easy to slot back in.Design: I think this is a well thought through design that provides easy access, but leaves a clutter free tank - none of the machinery is in sight. The glass is very magnifying which is strange to get used to but nice from the point of view of observing the fish. This tank has a small footprint so will fit in tight spaces, but is tall, which allows for a range of fish (mid / lower) and also allows for good height ornaments / plants. I also think it is an attractive looking tank and a big improvement for Interpet, who were a bit 'function over design' in the past imho, but are now really competing with trendy tanks like the fluval edge / flex. I like the handy door in the lid for feeding. I don't like that the light provided is white only - it's nice to have a blue for the evening, but the provided light can be removed and replaced (at an additional cost)... and I would love a built in timer at this price.Summary: I prefer larger tanks really, but sometimes you only have space for a small tank. In my experience the price of this one is competitive at this level of quality. I would say that the Interpet tanks I have / have had stand up very well in comparison to a more expensive brand like Fluval. All in all I think this is a very good tank at a reasonable price and although it is doesn't tick every box for me - it stands up very well to every other tank I have tried (and to those I have rejected in the shop!). I feel comfortable recommending this tank. If I could, I would give it 4.5 stars, but I can't so it gets 4 instead of 5... largely because of the light to be honest! Sorry if I am being a bit mean, but 5 means perfection to me!Me: I've looked after fish for 3+ years now in a number of tanks ranging from 90 litres to 12 litres. I use real plants, no substrate (just sand or gravel) and a mix of tap safe / stress coat and filter boost balls. I live in a very hard water area. Tanks are always tropical. My fish are not exotic: a range of tetras, harlequin rasboras, guppys (male), otocinclus and shrimp. Happy to answer questions if you have any...

This is my first nano aquarium, but after keeping fish for many years, I was surprised by how lightweight the box was. Interpet have thoughtfully braced the product box inside another box to reduce the likelihood of transit damage. It's easy to unpack and comes with just about everything you'll need to get started - you'll need to buy substrate, decor, food and water conditioner separately. The tank looks good, and although a little shallow from front to back, it has a nice height and width. The curved front panel means you'll have to be very selective about decor to ensure it fits inside comfortably and still allows space for your fish or invertebrates. The LED light is conveniently pre-installed inside the hood and it is simple to operate, although a timer would have been a nice addition to control the light cycle. There isn't enough information about the lighting to confirm how suited it to live plants so you might want to play it safe with plastic or species that can cope with low light conditions. The hood also includes a trickle tray filter and it comes with media to get started. The filter is fairly small and I'd have liked more space for biological filter media. As it is, I'm not convinced it'll do a great job without some additional help even with a light bioload.Unfortunately, the setup does not include a thermostat, so you'll need to buy one suited to a nano aquarium if you intend to keep tropical species. Please note, that despite the suggestions, this tank is not suitable for goldfish.

My husband has kept fish for years and I thought that this looked lovely as a small additional tank which perhaps our children could maintain - hopefully as a coldwater tank with a couple of goldfish. When I showed my husband he said that it was too small to be able to look after the fish I intended to stock it with. I was really disappointed as were the children, but I was particularly annoyed as the product information indicates that there is plenty of room for this set up. Hmmm. My husband advised against their advice and said that the best option would be a single siamese fighting fish (which I would love),but that would mean investing in a heater (or borrowing one of his spares as of course this doesn't come complete with a heater sadly. The tank itself looks lovely and I like the small footprint, which means that we can have it in our breakfast area, near the window (not in direct sunlight) by the armchairs and look at the fish. The design is easy to access, the magnification through the front of the tank means that the fish should look great. The lighting isn't all that - I think we will add some nighttime lights to show off the colours of the fish and the plants.Once we have had a chance to get our new fish set up in his home - we will see how we get on, but even though it is pretty and I generally really like Interpet products, I wish that they advertised this with accurate information for the wellbeing of the fish you are likely to put inside.

I am new to the aquarium owners club. At first glance this looks to be an excellent purchase - and it isn't cheap! It says it has everything you need to get started. You just need to provide somewhere stable to rest it on; a health test kit for your water and some decoration and obviously, your fish. . It claims that there is enough room for 2 small fish including goldfish. There is helpful advice on the side of the box. I am looking forward to testing it out for real and enjoying looking at my new fish. It certainly looks good and is a nice small size to get started on.
