These models have not been out that long. As such second hand examples are likely to have had less use. They still go at half the price of new though.Battery life is good regardless, esp. with battery saving mode on.The hardware is very good, much better than previous Garmin touch screens - it works in the rain or with gloves on.. The screen is bright and large, which helps navigation a lot.Forget the old touring model which goes for a little less than this - this is superior. You get auto upload to your phone and strava (once account is linked). You get incident alarms sent out to loved ones. The incident detection has always worked for me (picked up the two times I fell and never gave a false alarm).Where it had downsides is in the software. It seems to be too much like old Garmin models. And the connect phone app could be a lot better. The routes it finds have been buggy. I ride in a popular area yet the reccomendations are terrible. No matter what settings I have I find google gives better nagivation. Also a website created by one man gives better navigation cycle dot travel - check it out.The user interface could be better.Would be great if they let third parties develop more software for it. A whole new OS !! And the phone app could do so much more than it does. This is where Wahoo have the edge. But their hardware is lacking - so I prefer the Garmin. It's easy enough to download a route from another app on my phone to this Garmin. That is what I do. Battery life is easily enough to nav. with this Garmin for 10 hours battery saving move, which switches the screen off until come to turn. And this works very well.Compared to a phone you get a robust unit built to be used outdoors, with a reflective screen. When on bike tours it uses considerably less energy than a phone, even if switched on all the time. My dynamo has no problem keeping the Garmin charged with ample over to also charge my phone for use when in camp. When I just used a phone for nav. it was a lot more difficult in all kinds of ways!Read full review...

Ok so first use hated it had it all boxed ready to send back. On second thought gonna ring garmin to get some advice on it because im desperate for one this weekend. So pleased i did. Whoever wrote the instruction booklet needs shooting. When you actually know how to use it its fantastic. The battery lifes excellent. One main struggle was entering coordinates. Theres several different kinds of coordinates so you have to make sure you have the right ones or change your settings. The main 2 i use are both pretty easy to find on google. One thing to remember is theres sometimes not enough to numbers in the coordinates to fill the space in the garmin. If this happens just end in a 0 ive put a pic above to show what i mean.As you can see the coordinates for kings cross are 51.5347° N, 0.1246° W. But on the garmin you have to enter 51.53470° N, 0.12460° W. Not something i found in the instruction book. The same applies to searching for a street address. For buildings with no numbers just enter 0 or you cant progress through the search. Easy when you know how. My only major gripes with this product. one little niggle is the display in night mode is difficult to see the position icon marker something that may be an easy fix after another phone call to tech helpline. Although they are great and will grab a product and talk you through it. This works straight from the box. I have no clue what one of the reviews is talking about. When you know how it's truly awesome

I came to this unit from a Garmin Edge 810 so perhaps had an advantage over some folk in terms of initial setup in that I had a pre-existing Garmin Connect account and had the App installed on my iPhone already. In that environment, initial setup could hardly be easier: I was up and running in less than five minutes. So far I've generally found it to be very quick to get a GPS lock and, as the unit comes with the Garmin Cycle Map pre-installed, you can ride with it straight away. However, there was a humungous update for that map which I installed a couple of days later (the update ran overnight!). The display is bright and crisp and the touch-screen works much better than the one on my old Edge 810.The screen presents the data I want clearly and the data screens are extremely customisable to personal taste. The map is very easy to read and the zoom control works nicely. Uploading rides to the phone seems very reliable as is downloading routes ("courses" in the Garmin lingo). The turn-by-turn instructions can be a bit eccentric but over the years I've got used to Garmin's instance that I ride on the right hand side of the road and find it more amusing than annoying. I use this unit every day and really enjoy it! 100% pleased I decided to get this unit and would definitely recommend it for use touring, commuting and general riding. Other units might more suited to serious training.

This is more of a budget offering from Garmin, but certainly not a "cheap" offering. Price is good at less than £200 from most outlets and the display is very good. There are a few things missing that help keep the price down, most notable is the omission of the more detailed training features, but there are two features missing that would have been good to keep (I'd have been willing to pay a little more). These are GLONASS (and the other one which I forget the name of now) for better and quicker satellite acquisition as GPS can struggle to reacquire a signal if lost. For example, on exiting a tunnel it took about a minute or two to reconnect to the satellite, and the Edge Explore will make sure you know it has lost the course with yellow and then red warnings. The other is an altimeter. My old Edge 500 had one of these and it made spotting climbs, and less importantly informed you of the gradient you were on, quite accurately. The Explore uses GPS data, and its not accurate at all. An example: I was on a flat railway path and the Explore thought I was on a 30% decent and the profile was mountainous. Suffice to say I removed this screen.Despite these two omissions I still think this is a great device at a great price point and would recommend it to anyone who wants mapping and basic data information on their rides.

I'm a Garmin newbie but so far I'm happy with my purchase and got it on prime day so even happier. Only had one outing so far so still getting used to it. The supplied mount works well on a normal stem as seen on my gravel bike but on the MTB the stem isn't compatible and I didn't like it perched on the bars just looked like it would fly off somewhere so I've now got a 3rd party out front mount for that. I can plan routes on viewranger and import them but have to be precise with the waypoint so it doesn't give me off course warnings. The built in auto Couse generator on connect is quite cool tho. Bonus: Paired nicely with my Cannondale wheel sensor (made by Garmin).Came fully charged and only one outing so battery still plenty of charge left. One wish is that the units of measure could be more adjustable as you can only select statute or metic for everything. Some of us like to mix it up a bit like mph but weight in kg (can't handle lbs)

Have many Garmin Gadgets and after purchasing a new bike I thought I would get the best for that also...it's a great little gadget, still getting used to it but no real issues...I actually just operate these gadgets without reading any instructions so that probably explains how easy it is to use....have also purchased the rear light that has the vehicle approaching radar and both items work well with each other...got the protective rubber cover as I am sure one of these days I will come of the bike so hopefully no damages shall be sustained...also purchased the Garmin extended baracket for the handlbars and its much better..pretty pleased with purchase...there is a lot more that is containedwithin the edge and what it can do but probably better watching a YouTube video as opposed to hearing me harp on....

There seems to be a lot of negative comments about the Edge Explore, but if you want some impartial reviews search DC Rainmaker or Cycle Republic websites. I picked mine up today , sadly not from Amazon as I get a 10% British Cycling discount , and have used it three times already. All I can say is don't believe the negative reviews. It's easy to set up, linked easily to my phone, my sensors and Strava account. It is easily customisable, the routing is good and clear, battery life is okay from what I can see so far and for the price (unusually for Garmin) it's pretty damn good.On the downside, why no out front mount in the box and first time I linked to my PC it spent 6 hours updating the maps.I'm really pleased with it ....For once Garmin exceeded expectations!

I'm always had a bike, but only started riding longer distances this year. Needed a map, and thought I could use a smartphone. But mine isn't easy to see in sunlight, and the route software isn't great for cyclists. This is brilliant. I can select eg "40 miles start north" and it will offer me a choice of rides. Or if I choose a destination it uses data from other cyclists to show me a good cycle friendly route. It's easily visible even in bright sunshine, and battery lasts all day. Longest ride I've done so far is 70 hilly miles - 6 hours - and it coped with that fine. I can also download routes generated by other people on the device. Recharges via usb; and can upload journey data to pc.I'm really pleased with it.

i like cycling and was looking to get a Garmin. This came at the right time with amazons deal of the day with over a £100 discount.it is a handy kit it has sat nav so you can set where you want to go and have turn by turn prompts. It syncs to Strava which is a time saver also any other app you may use. Battery life is ok not brilliant, i do find if I'm out for 20,30 mile ride also using the maps it would use 50% of charge. overall I am happy with it. There are more features like emergency contacts and route track ect. I have not used many of them but im sure I will in due course.

If you want to just ride randomly and want a basic readout of speed and distance then this is for you but also has advanced training features too.. Just press and off you go! Nice touch screen and a physical start button - no need to take yours gloves off. 12 hrs run time. You can use maps and apps, use cadence and heart rate meters, plan routes on your computer/smart phone - drag over, turn by turn maps with GPS and offer tracking for a family member, then this baby will do that too!

Turned my Garmin on and the screen is easy to use and self explanatory, it is as good as any map ive used and exceptionally accurate for turns. the screen quality is fantastic and easy to read, refresh rate is instant and as a mobile gps device goes this is the best one ive had, Im really impressed and look forward to my next ride out. I would recommend this product as it is fantastic value for money, a must for amateur, intermediate or professional riders alike. Would not be without one now.

This is one of the best bike computers in the market. The touch screen makes it as easy to use as a smart phone. It is great not having to rely on phone battery and phone signal. So far I have used it only for work commute and the battery seems to last for several days. I look forward to taking it on a proper ride. The Garmin brand means it has a huge library of courses and records. The course finder where you can define the distance and start location sounds great for trying new routes.

I never use a proper Sat Nav for my bike as I was using my phone app. I find that this proper Sat Nav is very easy to use, very light-weight to bring with me everywhere I go. The layout on the screen is easy to understand. A good size screen good and good quality made that I never expected that. I also realised that, it not just suitable for cycling, we can also use it for walking around towns and cities. It would be better if it comes with a small storage case.

Hi All, I’m no expert with this type of equipment however after getting lost on a sportive last year wanted something that gave me confidence with turn by turn directions. This thing is awesome and I can download any sportive ride and is so user friendly it’s teaching me to ride more effectively. My son bought an earlier more expensive model however now drools over mine so I’ve obviously got something right. I now wouldn’t ride without it. Five stars Garmin +++++

So far this unit is fantastic. Easy to fit and set up and it works beautifully with Garmin Connect app on my phone. No more connecting it to a computer and using Garmin express to download the ride and then send it up to Garmin Connect, just fire the app up on the phone and it's all done automatically now. Downloads the ride from the GPS via Bluetooth and then sends it straight to Garmin Connect. So much simpler. Very happy with this.
