Exped's most mega mat is named aptly, so you don't miss what it is, and what it does! Just in case you haven't twigged yet, this mat is mega! If you want a mat that's as good to sleep on as your own bed, this is it. It's almost exactly the same length and width as the standard single beds in our spare bedrooms. It's good and thick and well insulated, too so if you use it when car-camping, you get a great night's sleep, fellow campers allowing, that is! Its plenty warm enough to use over four seasons, keeping you well off frozen ground and staying warm to the touch. The top-side cover is soft to the touch and not as low-friction as some mats, which means you're more inclined to stay put over-night!The edges are square, which means you have good support right up to the edges, which combined with its generous dimensions in the first place, means you seldom stray off the mat, with arms, elbows, knees and tootsies staying over insulated territory - something that isn't always the case when using a back-packing sleeping mat, which are necessarily cut down to limit their weight.Down-sides? Two - price and weight. At close to a couple of hundred quid, it's firmly in premium-price-land... and with a weight of two and half kilos you're not going to be taking it up Eiger or tucked neatly in your cycle pannier! The over-size stuff-sac works well, too and is perfect for quick camp-strike times at the end of your week-end, but it does not make for a neat roll. The mat can go into the supplied sack while still partially inflated which is a plus, 'cos it takes ages to completely empty, but the down-side is that it is nowhere as compact as when fully deflated. It's supplied with a mini-pump and a first aid kit (for the mat, that is, not for humans...) but the mini pump, which is the same one they supply for mats with much smaller volumes, struggles a bit to make any headway with the amount of air needed to fill the megamat - best to open the valves and leave it to inflate as a result of the foam expanding, then top it up to your favourite firmness with the mini-pump.In summary, if you car-camp a lot and value a good night's sleep and/or, like me, you're the wrong side of your best-before-date... raid the piggy bank and get one - you won't regret it. Many Zeds will be piled up as a consequence!

I purchased both the Megamat outfitter 10LXW and a regular Megamat 10 LXW. I don’t write many reviews, but did for this product because I wanted to answer the questions I felt were poorly answered in my own research. So far, I love the perceived durability and peace of mind of the Outfitter version. The regular version feels softer, more bed-like and the fabric is quieter than the outfitter. We are using them to replace the mattress in our pop up travel trailer and it is going to be a great fit. With the added bonus that we can remove them easily and use them elsewhere. For the record, I am 5’10” and 300 pounds, and the mattress has survived well with myself and my two 7 year old boys,or with myself and the wife crammed on it. I have tried the mattress on a houseboat roof, in front of the TV and on the deck stargazing. By having a separate mat for the wife and myself, we can each adjust to our desired firmness without affecting the other person. I don’t know how they do it, but these do not roll like your typical airbed.I have tried the mattress both firm and soft. Firm requires about 30 pumps with the include pump. The softest I have tried (which seems too limp until you get on) is the fill by opening the valve alone. I was surprised to find that I prefer it on the softer side.I was pleasantly surprised at how easily the mattress can be rolled up to approximately the same tightness as it came from the factory. We watched one video that compared them to a college dorm mattress, that was a poor choice of words and a bad comparison. I would compare these to a regular mattress at home, they are probably as comfortable as a home mattress (including for side or stomach sleeping) or more comfortable due to the adjustability. It is difficult to say which version I prefer, both are excellent, and very comfortable. I suspect the regular version will prove to be adequately durable, so that is probably the version I would buy if there ever were a next time…

We were about to set off for our first camping trip and I wanted to try and get the maximum insulation and comfort for my wife who was less emotionally ebullient about the trip than me. :-) No (single person) sleeping mat is wider, longer or more comfy than this model and if you have the space in the car/house to store you'll be very happy with it (no getting away from the fact that it's still a very large sausage when rolled though).I bought 4 of these around 2 years ago and they've been brilliant (no punctures but not used terribly often - just at home for sleepovers, when camping or visiting friends). I tend to not remember to lay them out before they're needed (or maybe just too impatient)so rarely give them the 10-15 minutes to self-inflate but they pump up to a comfy level with the hand/foot pump in just a minute or so depending on your output rate. They roll up very fast when it's time to pack... just fold 1/3 over, and 1/3 again, lie like a seal on it and roll around a bit. The deflate valve is large enough not to make this at all arduous. Then roll a tight cigar and it's zero struggle to pop into the huge bag. 10 year olds can put this away themselves.Pads can be butted up right next to each other for a near-contiguous surface and there are optional elastic couplers to tie the mats together (I didn't buy these). Be mindful that these mats will occupy a lot of space in smaller tents and may touch edges risking condensation depending on the weather. If you can deal with the size these are top bananas.

I'm SO glad I bought these. Given their price, I was hesitant to buy multiple of them for my camping kit, but have zero buyer's remorse, after using them this weekend.I'm a 6'2" 270lb guy with a bad back. If I sleep on anything harder than a pillow top, my back is agony in the morning. My tiny girlfriend is the opposite, and needs to sleep on bricks to sleep well. We were both ecstatic. When fully inflated, they're very stiff, which is good for some, but you can deflate it to make it super soft as well. I deflated mine until it was just full enough that my pressure points wouldn't touch the ground underneath, and it's suuuuuper comfy. More comfortable than my memory foam mattress at home,in fact.As an unexpected bonus, they're ridiculously easy to inflate, deflate, and put away. Trivially easy.Inflating is just letting it sit for a bit, then using a few steps on the provided pump.To deflate, you just roll it over a few times and lay on it to get all the air out. It looks like it's vacuum sealed at that point, and you can easily roll it up and put it in the side-loading sack. No grueling effort to roll it perfectly tight and shove it into a too-small hole like a lot of over camping equipment. No cons at all.Whoever engineered this, hit me up, and I'll buy you a coffee/beer.

Really happy with this camping mattress. Was hard to fork out so much dough for a camping pad but bc of my back and hip pain issues and our first camping experience as a family I wanted to make it the best experience possible so I went with this one based on the reviews. This mattress was well with the $$$. It is very high quality, toasty warm, and so so comfortable (once I found the right inflation level for me). I just had to play with it a bit as I can't have too hard of a mattress for my hips. You can get it really firm too if prefer though. This mattress was so comfortable I now have it on my side of the bed at home as we have a firm mattress that I couldn't sleep on without hip pain. Now I sleep through the night well with minimal pain and my husband still enjoys the firm bed on his side :) I also like the fact that even though it's air filled it doesn't feel as much like it as those cheap air mattresses. Maybe it's all the insulation but it doesn't try and roll you off the edges when you move around. These make excellent quick comfy beds for company too. I wouldn't buy it for backpacking/hiking though. It's pretty bulky and a bit too heavy to want to carry it on a minimalist trip. Car camping its great though. Very happy with purchase.

I was so hesitant to pay $200 for a camping pad despite obsessing over this one for some time. However after reading some reviews and the one that said it was the price of staying in a hotel, I was pushed over the edge. I rarely stay in hotels, mostly camp and thought I owe it to myself to get something decent.I am in love with this pad. There is no turning back. It is so easy to setup. I lay it out in my tent with the intake valve open to let a little air in and then later a few puffs (a minute) with the accompanying pump and voila, I have a comfortable pad. It is possible to have it very very firm or let a little air out and have a little give. Packing up, open the output valve and roll from the other end.The valves are great, easy to use and large enough. The bag it comes with is very convenient and easy to carry.I spent hours laying on it to read and then hours of sleeping. It is easy to get off of i.e. unlike an air mattress which sinks when you sit up, this stays firm. I also slept in 16 degree weather in my tent and felt well insulated. This is NOT a backpacking mattress as it is too big when rolled up but is perfect for car camping (I have a very small car)

I have MCS, so I am always sniffing at new stuff and allowing for weeks of airing and outgassing and spraying with vinegar and putting in sunlight.... Well, none of that needed with the Exped. My eagle nose smelled nada--except in the interior of the carry sack--that smelled a bit toxic and it is inside-out on the clothesline.I didn't think the directions to let it self inflate for at least an hour and then hand-puff it would work, but it did--I actually over inflated with a dozen pumps, for my comfort, and let some air out. Pretty quiet fabric (still a little "nylon-y", but cotton wouldn't wipe up well--that's what sheets are for.)I got the M width (about 26 inches) and normal length (the 70 incher, not the XL) and while bigger is usually better, this feels fine (I'm 5'7, 165#) and will fit in my van better. Also, be careful of wider if you have a sleeping bag with a back sleeve that holds the mat --the 26 inch was pushing it with mine. Will be trying it out for 3 days next week--I anticipate being very happy I replaced my 4 inch foam trifold (my but or hip always fell into one of the fold creases; none of that nonsense with this pad.)

The Megamat 10 is by far the most comfortable camping mat I have ever slept on! I have tried 5 other brands of inflatable mats of which some where pretty good until I tried the Megamat! the beauty of this mat is that it incorporates memory foam in a cellular pattern along with ability to air it up to your desired firmness, genius is what I say! only thing i will say that is somewhat of a negative, is that it takes awhile (depending on temperature outside) when you initially unpack it for it to completely self inflate. you can help it with the provided foot pump which works pretty well, however, it is the foam core that takes time to expand, especially after it has been packed for extended periods of time. The instructions recommend a fair bit of time in advance of use for it to fully expand, this is a bit of a problem when you don't have time or space to spare in order to do this, such as pack camping out of your vehicle or Aircraft like I do. all things considered, I really love this mat! it is the closest mat to sleeping on your regular bed as you will get.

I used this mat a couple of times this summer while camping. First time for four days, next time for five days and then seven days. I always had to pack a cot because of back problems. So before purchasing this mat I read reviews and then I decided to purchase it. My main concern was that I would touch/feel the ground while sleeping....totally the opposite!!!! When laying on the mat the only thing I felt is a comfortable mat under me. I like the fact that I am able control how firm I want it and it stayed firm for the seven days it was used. No need to pump more air.Be sure to follow instruction and it does takes about 24 hrs to inflate when you first get it but after that it does not take any time at all.Be sure to check what size you'll need. The one I ordered is just right for my height. The only draw back is that you are so close to the ground that it may be hard to stand up (since I am not that young anymore).Overall I am glad that I decided to purchase it.

I have used over 100 nights now and cannot fault this mattress. My tip - experiment to find your own ideal softness - not enough air and you will touch the ground underneath, too much air and the mattress will feel hard from the pressure. It is wide, long and thick, comfortable whether you lie on side or on back. There are 2 valves, one to inflate and 1 to deflate. Left unrolled it gradually self inflates with the internal foam but always needs a little top up from the lightweight hand pump that has been very effective since I realised that you need to pump it with a thumb over the intake hole. It is quite easy to roll up and fit back into the supplied cylindrical bag,but needs a minute or two whilst rolling and leaning on it to slowly let the air feed out. This mat is too bulky for hiking so is really for car camping or stashing at home for occasional visitors. Best stored long term full size, not in the bag.

I have disc degeneration in my lower back that can be exacerbated by sleeping on poorly supported surfaces that I thought had all but put an end to my camping days. I decided to gamble with this mat and I slept on this mat for 2 months straight on a summer road trip and did not have any problems with my back. I was able to blow it up to be extra firm and support my back and put extra air in every other day or so. My dog slept/walked/jumped on it multiple times and her nails never damaged anything. I am 5'8" and got the smallest size and slept with me and my large dog in a 3 person tent. The mat fit comfortably inside the tent, I think the larger sizes would have been too big for the tent and I fit on the small one just fine.If I had a bigger tent, I would buy a larger one just for more room.

I love this mat! Best mattress for camping I've ever used. Pretty easy to inflate, but it is a foot pump. So plan accordingly. The stuff sack is wonderful and pretty forgiving. It took me a few tries to get it as closely deflated as initial use, yet I could still roll it up in to stuff sack. After owning over a year I had a malfunction in the mattress. Contacted the company and sent it to WA office for repair. EXPED replaced the mattress since still under warranty. Only cost me shipping there and was relieved at how quickly they addressed it and replaced and shipped back. Shipping to Washington state is pricey if you are on the other side of country (for me 50-75 bucks depending on expiditing).A fraction of the cost if I had to replace it out of pocket. Would highly recommend.

This pad is extremely comfortable and makes for a vastly upgraded night's sleep when compared to a simple pad. It comfortably fits two of us and is also not so bouncy as to be disruptive when stirring around in the middle of the night. Of course, there are a few trade-offs such as:- the pad takes up most of the space in our 3-person (rated) tent- it takes a while to self-inflate after which the included hand-pump must be used for full-inflation and firmness (an hour or two, at most)- deflating requires quite a bit of effort of rolling, squeezing and stuffing it back into the included carrying bagThese trade-offs (which were known ahead of time) are a small price to pay for comfort, however! The pad also appears to be durable and will hopefully last a long time.

I am NOT the "rugged outdoors type" but now getting into kayak camping in retirement. This thing is amazing. Pad is comfortable, supportive, and your bones never hit bottom when tossing about. No air loss ever detected. The Mega Mat (LXW size) gets lashed onto the top of my kayak, is sprayed and dunked in salt water for days on end, gets thrown onto beaches and rocks, scorched by the Florida sun all day, and comforts me at night. Now that is tough! Self-inflation is quick and easy. The little hand squeeze pump works great, but really takes about 3 minutes to get the pad really firm-firm. As a bonus, the Exped mates perfectly with my Nemo Mezzo Loft Luxury sleeping bag ($250.00). The combo is not cheap, but a good night's sleep is priceless.

Bought this to replace an airbed. Having tested it we have since bought 2 more; there are 3 of us in our family. I have breast cancer that has spread to my hips and spine and the only bed I find comfortable is my own, with a memory foam top. I struggle in hotels, other houses, etc, and found our airbeds way too uncomfortable when camping. We were looking for the best, and with the Exped Megamat, we've found it. Very comfortable, easy to inflate, easy to finely adjust the amount of air inside. Yes, it's bulky to carry, but for our sort of load-the-car family camping that's not a problem. And yes, it's pricey, but not when you consider the difference it can make to a week of camping - proper sleep means energy and humour to enjoy the days!
