I bought this Coleman Waterfall Five Man Tent for "camping from the car". It is not for carrying on your back on a hiking holiday.First, the negatives (which are not as bad as the number would suggest - they are all minor, some very minor):(1) The instructions are very poor. However, once you've put the tent up once and taken it down again once, you'll be fine afterwards (especially if you pay attention to how the guy ropes were tied using slip knots when you first put it up, so that you can reproduce those knots when you put it away again - you'll be glad you did the next time you put it up). Make sure you put it up and down at least once before you go away.(2) The tent arrived nicely packaged in its bag,but tied using what looked like an offcut of material, which really didn't inspire confidence. Thankfully, things were better after that.(3) The first few times you put the tent up or take it down, use gloves where possible. I didn't, and ended up feeling like I had tiny nylon fibres buried in the skin of my hands - the nylon equivalent of using wire wool without gloves.(4) It is not obvious from the instructions that the tent is asymmetrical. Only one side has windows and guy ropes on the door. The first time I put the tent up, I ended up with the windows pointing the opposite direction from where I wanted them, as I had expected them to exist on both sides. You'll only get that wrong once.(5) The dome shape (and this presumably will be true of all dome-shaped tents) means that when you open the door in the morning after rain or heavy dew, water from the outside of the door is very likely to fall inside the dome.(6) The metal pegs bend very easily. I'd suggest buying some heavy duty ones.(7) The guy ropes are reasonably visible, but against green grass they do tend to disappear. I'd have preferred hi-viz orange to make things a bit safer.(8) Could do with a hanging point for a light in the middle of the ceiling.(9) Even in the sleeping "pod", which is essentially a dark bubble inside the tent itself, there is a reasonable amount of light, so make sure that you take an eye mask with you if you have trouble sleeping in light conditions. Now for the positives, which certainly outweigh the negatives:(1) The height in the dome is excellent, Both myself and my wife (over 6ft) can stand up easily in there without feeling claustrophobic.(2) Very spacious, although it would be snug to have five adults sleeping in it. For a couple, there is plenty of space for both sleeping and all your stuff.(3) The sleeping "pod" is excellent, with doors made up of two layers, one mesh to stop insects, and a second solid to block light when sleeping.(4) Good ventilation at the sleeping end, with a flap that can be held open or closed using guy ropes.(5) A few useful pockets.(6) The doors zip all the way around, although from other reviews and from the arrangement of the zips, it does look like this has been changed by Coleman as an afterthought.(7) Useful hole (zipped) for feeding an electrical connection through. It's not a difficult tent to put up or take down, but it's time consuming if you do it on your own. The first time, it took me an hour to put it up on my own, and nearly as long to take it down and pack it away. With practice it does get quicker, but I cannot imagine ever matching the 10 minutes mentioned in another review - maybe with another person helping, but not on my own.To summarise, a number of minor issues, but the plus points far outweigh them. I'd recommend this tent, but with one caveat - I've been exceptionally lucky with the weather when I've used this tent, so I cannot vouch for how well it stands up to gale force winds and torrential rain - the worst I have experienced so far has been a light shower.

I bought this tent in June, waited till now to review, so i could pass a fair judgement. Having never camped, well not since i did the festival rounds years ago, I was looking for a cheap way to 'get away' ...thought camping in comfort could be the option...I bought this tent as I wanted a roomy tent for two, after reading other reviews, searching 100's of tents, I decided, Dome (As not massive footprint but plenty room for 2 + head height hopefully ment I would not spend my days bent in a shrimp-like position!... I figured from what other reviews said, erecting this one by Myself and my capable 10yr old daughter was a possibility...An all strong female camp.If I had written this after our 1st outing,I would have been spitting feathers at what a nightmare this tent is. Regretting my decision to not go with the Tunnel designs and opting for the Dome! The Dome... crazy hard to raise!! Anyhow after 6 further camping trips.... It's a 20min job! Somebody MUST go inside the tent and hold the dome poles when raising...Do not forget that really useful info!!!! I would STRONGLY advise putting this up a few times/getting to grip with it before your trip, seriously, it will save you a lot of public embarrassment!I bought a Coleman awning (A Must) after camping trip 3, As the water DOES fall in when porch is open + The awning added extra room and covered the useless netty bit at top of dome. which 'u say' is for ventilation, I'd say and insect paradise! Also...it's misleading, there is only one set of tent porch poles provided.Have endured a couple of crazy windy/stormy/rainy nights...Held up wonderfully well!!!All in all, now I have my head around how to put this tent up/take down...It's was great buy for 2. Completely converted to sleeping under the stars with home from home comforts.

Purchased this tent about 4 years ago from Amazon and have used it once or twice a year since then and are very happy with it.As usual with tents they claim you can fit many more people in than is really practical. This tent claims to be for 5 people and of course you can fit five people in as long as they are 1) not all full grown adults and 2) dont mind being very close to one another. In practice this is an excellent two or three person tent. You can just fit 1 double and 1 single inflatable mattresses in or two single inflatable mattresses with space left over for luggage. The best things about this tent are the porch area and the easy construction. You can put this tent up by yourself BUT its really easy with two of you.Once done a few times expect it to be up in under twenty minutes. You put the outer part up first so the inner sleeping compartment is done last. Great if its raining. Also you can leave the inner tent unused and use the whole area as a large under cover communal space if camping in a bigger group who nave tents to sleep in. The ceiling of the main porch area stands high enough that most people do not have to stoop once inside. There is also room for a decent 4 person camping table and chairs to sit at once the evening gets too cold to be outside. The bag it comes in is not that easy to carry around and one person would not want to carry it more than a few hundred yards on their own. But perfect if you are camping with a car and can park closeish to the pitch.

Our first family tent. Purchased last week and tried it out this weekend in the garden with mum dad and 2 kids. Took us much longer than the 20 mins suggested, but it wasn’t overly complex. I’m Sure it will be a lot quicker next time.Plenty of room inside to fit 4 camping chairs and a small table plus bags, toys n stuff. Room to stand up in the centre and stretch out.2 awning openings to chose from which you can hold up with 2 extra poles provide (you’ll need an extra 2 poles if you want to open up both awnings).Zips go all round the 2 main doors including the bottom so you can seal yourself in at night (sounds like this was minding from older versions - but is present now). The bottom zips area little fiddly as you have to reach into a flap on the outside of the tent to feed the zip end into the zip pull - but it’s manageable. The bedroom part was big enough for the 4 of us and was easy to attach - basically a tent within a tent.We bought an extra sheet of tarp for the footprint of the tent to help protect against any small stones/twigsAnd we also bought some Coleman tent carpet for £20 (for a Coastline 6 tent) which fits the width of the Waterfall 5 just fine and it’s also long enough to go beneath the bedroom part of the tent (it doesn’t stretch the full length of the whole tent but does provide good coverage).Great first tent for the money. Good quality and plenty of anchor points and guy ropes. Go for it!

After many hours of research, trying to find the best quality tent with the best space at the best price, I finally settled on the Coleman waterfall. I was buying it for two people and it was an experiment to see if we could be happy and comfortable after thirty years away from camping. Using the tent with no bedroom divide to make one large bedroom allowed us to have a large airbed and all of our luggage in the sleeping area very comfortably. The darkened nylon was not particularly dark but helped a bit to avoid an early morning start and the inner mesh door kept even the tiniest insect out - essential for me! The living area is tall enough to have two tall people standing up easily and the peg out canopy was a bit flimsy but ok.For a fair-weather weekend away, this tent is all you need, just add cooking gear and seating and you'll be more than comfortable. On our second, longer trip we added a Colman windbreak and pop up gazebo to cook under, which was lucky as it was warm but a bit wet, which the tent coped with admirably. I would agree that the zips are overly fiddly but not a major problem and I do think that this tent would be too draughty for colder weather but on the whole and for the pricethis was an excellent buy, easy to put up and comfortable. To avoid packing away hassle, we bought a slightly bigger canvas bag to keep it in but the original was not at all bad. Glastonbury here we come!!

As a couple we enjoy some luxury camping and therefore wanted a tent with a good sized sleeping compartment and a large living area so we can cook and sit comfortably if the weather is not being kind. The sleeping area is very large for 2 people and we had room to store our clothes and stuff with plenty of room for the blow up double bed. However this tent is supposed to sleep 5 people. I think that it would be a tight fit to get 5 adults in the tent. You would be able to get 2 children and 2 adults in the sleeping area and still have some room to move. You can separate the sleeping compartment into 2 areas which may be of use if you have kids (this is not clear from the diagram). The head room in the tent is very good for people who are not very tall (we are 5 ft 6 and had heaps of room). There is plenty of room for a decent kitchen area and a small/meduim table and chairs. The only negative thing I can mention is the fact that there are no separate fly sheets on the doors so if you leave the tent you need to zip everything up. However its a small niggle rather than a deal breaker from my perspective. The tent is very easy to erect even though the instructions are very basic and not much help. We did however struggle to get it back in the bag but I suspect that with some practice we will soon get it down to the correct size.

I already have a Colmman Sahra which is much bigger than the Waterfall but at 35Kg is to heavy for my KTM motorcycle. The Waterfall is only 14Kg and is nearly as big and fits on the rear of the KTM when touring. Build qualitity is as aspected by Colman, very high with some very nice touches. The main reason for purchasing this tent is that its just high enough to stand-up in the sleeping area and the dome front area is excellent for seating, storage and I use it as an indoor covered area when the whether is bad. In the past I carried a pop-up gazebo but now cannot carry on a motorcycle so this design allow me to do both within one tent. The only downside is the 40 wire peg's which are useless in hard ground,I purchased 20 'T' shaped alloy 8" peg's which are good for hard ground and sandy conditions, I have never used all the peg's provided so use your initative at the time and location when pitching. If you want to camp for a couple of months around europe in a car, van, pick-up truck the Colman sahra & gazebo is the way, BUT if travelling light & fast the colman Waterfall is the way to go; just pitch the tent near a tree for shade in the heat of Southern Europe at the height of summer.

Ok, i've had this tent for over a year now and had several trips away in it in all weathers. Overall the tent is superb. The great thing about it is it is easy to put up (colour coded poles) and super spacious.. its a palace! Also never had a problem with condensation due to its airy and spaciousness and seems to hold heat well on the cold and windy days. The main problem I have had with this tent so far are the bloody doors.. just got back from a festi where the weather was really stormy - rain and high winds. The doors have a zip on either side and the bottom is a loose flap which can be pegged down in 3 places - but then its a bit fiddeley to get out.. Anyway, try as I might I could not stop small floods - the flaps blew around and generally back into the tent, over the lip and a river and pool would form. Really wish they had just made an all-round door zip. I think the tent would also benefit from somewhere to hang a light in the living room area as has been mentioned. If it wasn't for the doors I would definitely give it a 5 star.. but it is still worth getting as I still love the tent even with its flaws.

I set up the tent on my own and considering I didn't use the instructions (coz they're not user friendly to my brain!)I found it quite easy. Two people would make it a cinch, but I managed it in about 50 mins (First time!)Next time i'll do it in 25!The only hard bit, on your own, is feeding the second pole through the apex.I didn't have the problems others had with the zip at the opening not closing. It's quite tight and a touch fiddly to get the zip connected but once that 's done it zips easily enough. I haven't used it in anger yet, only to test putting it up, but it looks good and feels airy. My husband who is 6'5" can stand ok in the middle of the eating area so he's happy.Five cots would be a tight squeeze with no space to put your feet down while sitting on it. mats would give more room. I will be sewing some hooks to hang things from as there is a lack of them.Don't know how the poles can stand up on their own to hold the flap up? I think only one side has guy ropes to aid this, but I'd pitched it too close to our fence to see if they work. Just hope it doesn't leek!!we don't plan to camp in the rain!

Just back from camping two nights in Scottish April weather.... Sun , sleet, snow, rain, around 2degC through the night.Trial the tent in the back garden first, if anything is broken or missing send it back to Amazon for replacement they have a great returns system. Ours was in complete and in perfect condition but this will avoid any issues.Open the doors when popping up the tent with the poles, close the doors when securing the tent with pegs and guy lines, this will ensure the zips are not too tight and make it easier to open and close the zips.Watch the video if you like, it does help eg. The guy lines are so simple to use/tighten but may not be obvious at first glance. The inner sleeping section goes in easily and is warm, the living area of the tent is breathable and gets cold quick if the weather is not great, I guess this would be worse when windy.Check size of sleeping area vs air beds, we bought one double and two single coleman airbeds and they wouldn't all fit in.All in all a great tent and for the money I think it's good value. Enjoyed our first camping trip with it

I stayed in the tent for 2 months last summer in England on a windy ridge. It withstood 20mph winds and driving rain. In those conditions, it was not totally waterproof as there were a few tiny drips which were easily managed. I took te tent down when 40 mph winds were forecast.I did not use the bedroom liner. I think, because of the wind I was experiencing I would have had more leaks because the outer shell would have been more likely to touch the bedroom 'walls'.I kept the porch up even in wet weather by having the roof at a low angle. The two opposite doors were great for have a through breeze on hot days.I erected and dismantled it twice on my own and I managed it ok even though I was not strong and healthy at the time.I was camping for my health - to get away from household mould which I am sensitive to. It is definitely best to erect and dismantle in nothing more than a gentle breeze, though. It only comes with poles to put up one porch, so the other porch was very sloping, which was fine on hot sunny days because it prevented the sun heating the inside too much.

Have just returned from a weekend camping in our Waterfall 5! Easy to erect, pleasing on the eye and fairly spacious for a compact tent. I wouldnt recommend it for sleeping 5 though. My husband and I were very comfortable in it with plenty of room in the living area. On the downside our weather was not particularly good with wind and rain showers. We spent 2 nights in the tent and stayed dry..BUT...the wind blew in the front of tent reducing the living space and it could definately have benefitted from a further guy rope on that part of the tent and unfortunately the corner guy broke away from the tent and left us a little concerned. I agree with other writers that velcro at the bottom of the doors would have been ideal too!We have returned our tent and it is in the process of being repaired. Overall I would however say that for the money we are very pleased with it and put it down to the fact that we were just unlucky! I will be back on here if it happens again though with a very different view no doubt!

Used it 2 years running for prolonged holidays of 5 weeks plus, it's stood up to all weathers including thunderstorms and torrential rain in Italy this year and when it's wet all it needs is an hour or so with a warm wind or even less in the sun and it's dry as a bone again. I'm 6ft 3ins and find the tent has plenty of room for me to stand up and can stand in the bedroom area with just my head bent forward so no problems dressing ect. Would recommend coleman make a few changes but only minor from prolonged use, a fly screen simolar to the one in the bedroom unit could be fitted to the door area so you could still sit in at night with entry open but not be bothered by usual mossies and flyingthings and the little zip for a wire to feed through should zip from bottom to top not as it is because when you feed and elecric cable through the opening can't be closed on the wire as you have to zip up to close it and weight of wire pushes zip down again.

I bought the coleman waterfall for my partner as she was not a camper more of a glamper. However the coleman has changed this as my partner likes it as she can stand up in the dome and stand slightly bent over in the sleeping area. So she is happy. Huzar! The coleman is not man portable at 14.5kgs but then its a 5 man tent so what do you expect. Its great for camping from the car.We had a problem with the zip, as indicated by a prior reviewer. However I fixed this with ease by widenening the zip. No need for a return and totally functional. We have used the tent on multiple occasions the last being a "summer week" in Cornwall ending this weekend with as the farmer called it a biblical storm and flooding. The Coleman stood up to three days of coastal high winds and driving torrential rain incredibly well, almost as good as an expedition tent, for far less cash. We remained dry throughout and my partner is now a convert to camping. RESULT

This is an awesome tent, not sure if you'd get 5 in comfort but definitely 3. The best part is it's rock solid in a storm and the groundsheet is sewn in which makes a huge difference for when the weather is bad and stops unwelcome visitors getting in. There's even a small zipper for the power cable and although many have complained about the large vent in the roof it keeps everything fresh and dry. I'm 6'2 tall and I can stand up comfortably in the living area and the walls in the sleeping area are quite upright so even if you sleep on the edge you don't have the tent wall resting on you.The build quality is good and there's loads of guy ropes. The negatives: there's only a dividing curtain between the two bedrooms, which never bothered us but could others, it could really do with some fixings for roof lights and the pegs are a little weak but all in all a brilliant and comfortable tent for 2 adults and a couple of kids.
