I have been using a cheaper Weiita H6631 headlamp for several years and it was an adequate solution to when it got dark at work. I owned two of them but I was not happy with the way brightness was selected by the power on-off button. When the battery finally would not charge I contacted the company to see if they could sell me a replacement or point me to when I can get one from a supplier. I e-mailed them twice. They never returned my request. So I looked into a replacement. I searched for a headlamp that was rechargeable and stumbled on this brand and model of Coast headlamps. I watched the product video right here on amazon and liked what I saw.I read some reviews on amazon and other places on the net and I also liked what I was reading. It was more expensive then my last one but I did not want to cheap out and get the same headlamp as last time. That one and its short comings I was done with. Again the Brightness and on-off button where the same button. Also it was not as well constructed. This Coast headlamp had better features and is better constructed. I have been using it for a month now. I love this thing. I like that the three levels of brightness are selected by a dial, a part of the light beam can be focused down to a spotting point, and comes with a cord extender for the two different battery packs. I also like how the power packs can be clipped to the back of the headlamp or clipped to a belt or what ever and use a power cord extender. I usually use the lowest brightness with the focuse beam on during brighter nights and medium brightness focused down a little on darker nights. On long driveways or areas without street lights I will switch between the medium or high. As for charging I use the headlamp for the week when it is dark (more so in the winter when it gets dark earlier) when out on delivery and charge it on the weekend. It would probably last longer on a single charge but I don't want to push it. Every new employee that comes in I give them a list of things to buy and this headlamp is at the top of my recomendations to them to get. The only down side to this headlamp is that when on the medium or high brightness setting for a long period of time is the LED case gets really hot. Enough to burn a little if you are trying to focuse the beam so be carful if you are not wearing gloves.

Have always had the smaller cheaper headlamps like most people but decided I was due something nicer. So at Christmas I pulled the trigger on what I had researched to be a good rechargeable headlamp and couldn't be happier with the decision. Bright and adjustable in pattern and intensity. It is a game changer in every respect. I had my first real life use in short order with cleaning a deer in the dark by myself. It stayed on my head regardless of my awkward movements and with the beam on a wide view the job was not near as frustrating as in past experiences with a cheaper light. Knowing the light had several hours of endurance, putting it on full bright for the pack out was an amazing experience from I was used to.If you're on the fence about it go ahead and get it, you will be so glad you did. You'll notice the quality in the product and the light adjustments right away. I spend a lot of time in the woods while it's dark hunting and solo canoe camping so believe me when I say again it's a game changer. You're welcome.

I was skeptical until I charged it and fired this baby up! I think I drew small planes and helicopters to the area, swarmed like moths!!! I was afraid to look at the grass for fear of setting it on fire!I have to say it took some getting used to since I had never used a headlamp with such a heavy battery pack, but I have to say it is worth it. The first 'test charge' lasted almost 9 weeks before it had to be repeated and that was with daily use.I find it easily adjusted for zoom/wide angle, and the brightness levels are perfect. My only regret is that even though I was familiar with Coast products (loyal fan for years!!) I waited too long to purchase this!Highly recommend. Don't sit around in the dark!Order now!!!!

This is by far the brightest, longest lasting battery - Most Comfortable - Highest materials quality - headlamp I've ever used. It's comfortable and very high quality, in every detail. I especially like that this model, the HL8R allows the battery compartment to separate from the unit, and permits connecting of the battery to your belt or pocket, comes with the extension plug which allows this as well. Comes both with the Lithium battery pack, as well as a battery pack which contains AA size batteries. Truly a great product. Works very well, in fact, exceeded my expectations in every way. Special thanks to Coast for making a truly great product - and using high quality materials! Easily worth every penny!A great buy!

Holy moly! This is a BRIGHT light and gives you excellent visibility for a truly impressive distance. My husband especially likes the ability to go from a focused beam to a wide angle of light and everything in between. I'm a little less thrilled when he forgets to turn off the light after taking the dogs out at 3am and accidentally shines the light at the bedroom window. It'll make your bedroom go from dark to LIGHTS ON in a heartbeat. He's also managed to accidentally scare the bejeezus out of some roosting birds at night. The coyotes lurking in the woods don't much appreciate it either. We haven't been able to spot Sasquatch with the light yet,but we'll keep looking and post an update should that change.

I'll start by saying that I am a bit of a flashlight geek. I have had several headlamps from several manufacturers. I have only had this one for a few weeks. It is my second high lumen, rechargeable headlamp. I was totally unfamiliar with the coast brand. With all of that in mind, this is by far the best light I have ever owned. I have used it in the woods at night with little or no moon and, as a veterinarian, to illuminate dogs mouths. The only negative is it is a little heavy but I expected it to be. I would not let the price tag deter you from this light. It is worth every penny. I have considered a second one so that I would have one for work and personal use.

great light. i have the previous model which uses standard AA batteries. it worked great too except when the batteries corroded it was a real pain to get it to work again. however, this rechargeable pack is so much nicer. you never have to worry about batteries going dead because you can just plug your phone charger into it. it is a touch brighter than the old model but not a huge difference. i use it for coon hunting every winter and in house attics in the summer and has always been a bright light suited for the task.

I work under vehicles in a garage. Corded lights are a pain and handhelds are little help when you need 2 hands elsewhere. I refuse to hold a pen light in my mouth. I'm not a fan of hats or headgear, either, but after trying this light over top a beanie, I'm very happy with it. The light is bright and I added the 'remote' battery pack, so it's not overly heavy and I don't have to recharge often. The color of this light is bright white with no off-color halo rings to distort what you're looking at. Great Product!!

I work in aviation so good lighting is a necessity for repairs and inspections. The headlamp has 3 levels of light which work well and being able to switch from spot to beam is great too. Love that i can just swap AA batteries out or use a rechargeable pack with this since it has both options. It keeps downtime without light to a minimum.Really the only con is that it is a little heavy on the head after wearing it for an hour or 2 at a time but not terrible.

Well worth the cost and only issue I discovered is the high power mode (highest setting) only works with the larger USB charged battery pack. I use this regularly and enjoy not having to replace batteries (like I did regularly with my previous headlight). The power is quite bright and I find I use the lowest setting the most when doing jobs around the house or recently in the attic replacing a few attic exhaust fans.

This is light is awesome. I now own 2 coast headlamps. Both are over built. Use this one primarily for hunting. I usually have an hour walk or so in and out of my stand. With this headlamp it is like walking in broad daylight at 0430 AM. Have the additional AAA battery pack is nice for piece of mind if the rechargeable goes dead, which it never has.

Love the coast product and it came fast. However I’m not sure about the brightness claims because my 700 lumin coast flashlight seems to be much brighter then this 800 lumin lamp. Still worth it if you work in environments that justify a good bright light and you save cash on batteries. Not crazy about the helmet clips though.

Pretty good headlamp, but not awesome. Which is what you'd expect with the price tag. It is very bright and tends to put off a little heat which is understandable. My main issue is constantly having to adjust the tightness. It's pretty heavy so it loosens quite often and with how heavy it is, it falls off your head easily.

This headlamp is a game changer. I work night shift as a painter at a construction plant and this headlamp is excellent. I don't even have it at the highest light setting and it still illuminates very nicely. I've had it in direct rain fall, high heat, and it just keeps on kickin. Good product.

Very good, high quality headlamp. I would not use it for jogging or running ( I have a lighter, smaller Coast headlamp for that) but as for a working and camping headlamp the HL8R is my "go to" lamp. I would buy it again and recommend it to anyone else.
