I bought this bottle because I had misplaced my old Outback bottle. Camelbak is a brand I was familiar with, so I bought it on that basis. Unlike the Outback bottle, this has a soft body, which is nice to hold without feeling as though it might slip from your grasp. The fixed loop handle is really sturdy and wide enough to hook a chunky finger through.Initially, I really struggled with the bite valve a lot, as I felt like I was having to work exceptionally hard to get a small amount of water out of the bottle, until I worked out that it is best to bite the valve (near the top) to open it and squeeze the body of the bottle as you suck. Using this method is much better, but it still takes a little more effort that perhaps it should to drink from.Other reviewers have mentioned the following issues:Plastic taste: This is only very slight and generally barely noticeable, especially after filling it with fresh water.Mould: I have been using this daily for about 4 months now, and I have seen no evidence of this. I do not wash it regularly. However, I do give it a quick rinse when refilling. I have had mould problems with other bottles (which, due to the complex moulding of the inside of the lid, were a nightmare to clean) the underside of this lid is very plain and flat by comparison and I feel that this would be easy to clean. [See picture] I would say a standard bottle brush and some Milton would be able to clean this bottle thoroughly and easily.Leakage: I have tossed this bottle about without ever using the twist lock system and I have never noticed it spill a drop.I do not use this in any "performance" capacity i.e. cycling or running, but It's comparatively light weight, robust construction and 650-700ml capacity would make it suitable for either activity.I will definitely look to purchase one of these bottles again, despite my slight reservation about the bite valve. Overall a solid 4 stars in my experience.

A few of my friends are hardcore cycling enthusiasts and often go on long trips through the country. I'm certainly not in that same boat, but I decided I wanted to try some recreational biking to lose a bit of weight. They were pretty adamant that I try this bottle before setting out. I've never really owned a personal water bottle before, but I decided to give it a try - the price wasn't bad (around 7$) and with all the bad things I've been hearing about heat and regular plastic water bottles I figured there was no reason not to.The first important thing to note is that this Camelbak is plastic, but made >without< bpa-chemicals. Those are the nasty little guys you've heard about on the news that have been causing complications in fetus'and pregnant women, and while I'm not pregnant I'm not taking any chances with that stuff. Secondly, for a water bottle that advertises no leakage, it certainly lives up to it's promise. During my trek I spent a lot of time resting and playing around with the bottle, and not a drop leaked through. One of the other nice features is that while you're biking, you do not need to tilt the bottle in any way, just bite down on the valve and apply a bit of pressure and the water comes right to you. This means no vision obstruction, and you don't have to worry about crashing into a tree (or worse) when you're having a sip on the road.Overall I'm very glad I made this purchase, the fire-bottle looks really neat, and you can tell easily how much water you have left inside. If you have any plans to go biking, camping, or anything outside really, I absolutely recommend this. Easy to use, safe and sanitary - thumbs up!

It's a great bottle in general, makes it very nice to drink and ride at the same time, without having to tilt your head back. Some major pit falls though: First, the bite valve initially didn't have a slit in it. I had no idea how it was supposed to work, the advertising said you bite on it and you can drink, but that wasn't doing anything. I felt like a right prat sitting there sucking on a rubber cap expecting it to do something.Eventually the slit made an appearance and popped open and suddenly all was clear.Asides from that, my bottle whistles a bit when I drink, which isn't ideal. It happens very loudly if I take the bite valve off,but it's not so bad if the bite valve is on.I also find I don't tend to get enough water if the bite valve is on; it's too much of a restriction. And finally, I went for a drink once and the bite valve was gone. No idea when/where I lost it. I thought it felt pretty secure on the bottle, so no idea how it could have fallen off. Unfortunately, it seems it's impossible to replace it. You can either pay roughly £5+ for a replacement, or get a new bottle for £8. I think I'll do neither...UPDATE March 2017: I've upgraded this from 2 to 4 stars... Camelbak replaced the lost bite valve, no question. Just sent me one for free, fantastic customer service.I don't notice the restriction of the valve any more either, maybe I've gotten used to it.It's a sturdy bottle and camelbak are a great company. If I lost this bottle, I'd buy the same one again because it's a cheap but high quality product. The design could do with some perfecting, but a great brand for low price.

I was recommended to purchase a Camelbak water bottle by a family member as I wanted one for the gym, so I perused the different ones and decided upon this one. When it first arrived I was a bit concerned that the water may end up tasting a bit of plastic, because the mouth piece felt kind of rubbery, but my fears were totally unfounded. I've even left water in the bottle overnight at times and it still tastes fresh the next day.The bottle is made of fairly hard, but not brittle, plastic, which is very hard wearing. I have dropped it a few times without much damage, just a few small scratches. The top twists anti clockwise to unlock it in order to drink and clockwise to lock it again, and it has icons showing you on the lid in case you forget. You don't need to tip it to drink, just bite gently on the nozzle and suck with the bottle in the upright position. This is perfect for use during running, because you can carry on looking where you are going instead of tilting your head up and risking running into someone or something, or just losing your balance and taking a tumble. There have been absolutely no problems with leakage at all, as long as I ensure the top is twisted in the right direction to lock it. It holds a decent amount of liquid, so you don't run out too quickly and it isn't too heavy to carry, even when it is full. The bottle shape makes it easy and comfortable to hold in one hand.I have been extremely impressed and happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone.

I only wished I bought this sports bottle in the first place, instead of wasting my money of three other sports bottles before buying this one! The problems with my other sports bottles is that the drinking piece also slides back, making taking a sip extremely difficult when I am running. Also with my other sports bottles, I always had to tip my head back to get a swig... not good when I'm running outside or treadmill!I love my Camelbak, it's well made and feels good quality! The trademark bite valve makes it very easy to run and drink at the same time, without taking your eyes off the road. Its easy to clean, and has never leaked in my bag (I like the twist open-close functionality). The walls of the bottle made of a strong but flexible plastic (not the usual hard plastic Eddy's), which is a good thing as I've accidentally dropped my Camelbak twice, and it's skirted on the pavement... maybe I'm lucky, but I am surprised that I haven't got scratches or big gouges out on my bottle! My top tip (for those who use hydration tablets), don't twist and close the top of the Camelbak bottle (after you've dropped a hydration tablet into the water), only close it after the hydration tablet has dissolved (usually 1.5 mins); reason being is that the pressure can build up so much, it'll take you by surprise!! It's like a shooting fountain in your mouth when you take your first bite onto the bite valve for your first drink!! You have been warned!! :-)

This is my favourite bottle for use with bottle cages on bicycles. It fits perfectly with all the cages I've used. The bite valve makes it easy to take a sip while on the move as you don't need to tilt the bottle or tug at a stopper with your teeth. Just bite gently on the soft "nipple" and suck. The coloured bottles are slightly translucent so you can see how much liquid is left.A few negative points. The removable valve has a tendency to develop black mould on the inside if you don't keep it meticulously clean. And once the mould starts to grow it's near impossible to get out, even with special brushes. You can buy replacement valves in packs of two, but these cost about the same as a replacement bottle.I now only use water in the bottle (no sugary drinks, as these seem to encourage the mould) and disassemble and rinse it after each use. Also, the valve can be knocked off inadvertantly. This happened once when I had a hard fall from my bike. I didn't notice it was gone till I got home. A few days later along the same route I found it lying by the side of the path and still usable (after a wash).Lastly, the bottle isn't entirely leakproof even when "locked" by twisting the lid. This is because the valve retains a little liquid which can drip out if the bottle is inverted. It's not a problem if used upright on a bike, but I wouldn't advise tossing this bottle in a bag.

I really like this water bottle. Years ago, I quit using plastic water bottles, first because of off flavors in my water, then because of BPA, so I was much surprised to find that my favorite water bottle in my nearly 40 years of life is plastic! I have used glass bottles, steel bottles, aluminum bottles, narrow mouth bottles, wide mouth bottles, and bottles with and without straws, but this is the best so far. I love it. I had it for a couple of days, took it on an outing, and forgot it at our friends campsite. Normally I wouldn't notice my water bottle missing if I am at home (I drink out of cups), but I IMMEDIATELY noticed and kind of freaked out. I called my friends to make sure they had it,and that they knew that it was mine and I would get it from them as soon as I saw them. I'm not usually emotional about inanimate objects. This totally fixed my hydration problem.Pros: This plastic has no off flavors. It doesn't leech into your drink at all. You can drink while holding the bottle upright, and it is easier to drink from than the

These CamelBak bottles are wonderful! The only problem I have is that I keep forgetting which way to turn my bottles if I mix using this with normal bottles! This is my 4th Camelbak bottle of this type and I have yet to find another bottle that comes close. One of the other reviewers mentioned mould growth in the mouthpiece - this is indeed a problem if you use sugary drinks and don't clean it thoroughly immediately afterwards - that would be true of any bottle! I had this issue with the first bottle, and now I am more careful with usage. The bottle is sealed by twisting the headpiece around - I've had no problems with it leaking on me in this position.I use it a lot in the gym, and on my bike, and not having to tip my head back to drink (once you get used to it) DOES make everything a bit easier. At first you'll forget though and tip the bottle up to drink and wonder why nothing comes out!In short, this is by far the BEST bottle I have ever used for drinking out of. If only I didn't keep losing them!

I already have the larger, solid version of this bottle & that's so good it's always being taken out of the house by other members of my family, so I needed another one for the gym. That's when I came across this. It has the same no leak Camelbak bite valve and a removeable internal straw, so you can drink from it vertically or with your head tilted back, whichever is your preference. The advantages of this bottle over the Camelback solid version is that it is slightly smaller, so fits in the gym equipment holders easier. It is made of lighter, flexible plastic, which you can squeeze for faster water flow. And it is cheaper, but still of the same Camelbak quality. The solid bottle's bite valve flips down to close the flow, whereas this bottle twists to close and the bite valve remains upright, I prefer this for sports & training as it is constantly in use and the closing mechanism seems to be more watertight for chucking in the gym bag.Overall I'm really pleased with it & I'll be buying more.

Been using it for a few months now and it works perfectly!I haven't had any serious leaks though I wouldn't want to leave it on its side or upside down for long periods of time to test this. The spout mechanism works well, allows me to drink without tipping my head back which is useful in some circumstances!July 2015 update: I've been using this bottle for over a year now and on the whole it's been very good. Doesn't leak unless you leave it on its side for ages and even then not too much. My biggest issue though is that the spout does tend to get mouldy in spite of trying to keep it clean, and the spout also comes off easily now and I've lost it somewhere coming home from work. So the bottle is now useless. This is a shame but I've used it everyday many times a day and on the whole it's been a good bottle. But I think for my next bottle I'll invest in one with an opaque mouthpiece, maybe the lack of light may reduce the mould growth.

This is my #1 water bottle - the "don't even think about touching it!" bottle - the bottle I give as gifts, and I was a major Sigg fan.Why so awesome:1) Has NEVER EVER leaked - even when I left it filled side-wise "open" in my car - can be tossed in the bottom of a 6th grader's bag and not spill over his math homework that is also inexplicably at the bottom of his bag2) No funny after-taste (granted I have never left it prolonged in direct sun exposure or in a hot car)3) Bite valve easy-to-use, I have no trouble using it even during extreme can-barely-get-a-word-out cardio4) Fits perfectly in standard bike cage and carabiner clip gives great place to grab to pull it out for single-handed use but is also fairly light4)Wide mouth means it is easy to clean and also easy to drink from5) Replacement straws and bite valves easy to find (online)Bottom line: If you are at all serious about drinking from a water bottle, GET IT NOW.

We really like these at our house, because they lock and are softer plastic to go in bike bottle cage. We've had three of these for more than a year and love them. They come apart great for cleaning. These use do not use the same straw diameter as the newer Camelback hard plastic water bottles and I haven't found anywhere to get replacement straws. The only minor issue we've had with this and really all of the Camelback water bottles is what happens when there is a pressure (temperature) change. They will actually leak liquid out the top if unlocked. Although this version won't leak when it's locked (unlike the fold down ones) when you unlock it after a pressure change you can get a huge fountain of water come out the mouth piece.Just a minor thing when you take it from AC to hot car, but all the positives out way this minor issue. Just remember to put your mouth over the mouth piece before unlocking.

I bought this because I couldn't fit my current bottle's spout into my boxing headgear. The mouthpiece of this bottle worked perfectly. The soft sides are great for getting water into me quicker. The mouthpiece doesn't flip back, which kind of sucks, but it's in my gym bag most of the time so it doesn't really matter.I don't use the straw because I want to be able to squeeze the water into my mouth with the bottle upside down. To do this, you have to put the mouthpiece into your mouth, bite on the valve, turn the bottle upside down and squeeze. Because the part that you attach the straw to the cap comes away from the cap slightly,it's impossible to get all of the water out of the bottle this wayOnly minor inconveniences for a bottle that works great for what I need it for and seems to be durable enough to live in my gym bag for a long time

I absolutely love these bottles. I would buy 5 more in all different colours. I just love it. Like I enjoy having a drink of water out of this and therefore I've been drinking more water! Really nice bite valve and you can drink with the bottle upright (I really like this) but if you were really into tipping your head back you can just remove the straw! The locking mechanism is really secure and can I tell you what I really really like that shows they've really thought about the design... When you turn the screw cap to fill the bottle, the locking mechanism unlocks (because the thread turns the same way as the locking bit on the mouth piece) but because of the way they've designed it,when you screw the lid back on- it's locked. Yes you can open it without messing with the locking part, but I'm a clumsy lazy oaf and I never do it

I use it on my bicycle in a metal bottle holder attached to the frame. The shape suits a bottle holder well. If you're going to buy it for that purpose, bare in mind that the mouth piece juts out quite a bit - I've found that as I'm pedalling I sometimes catch my trousers on it.The straw goes all the way to the bottom so you can clear up pretty much all the liquid in it without having to take the lid off. It's easy to clean. I'm pretty sure they've put thought into its shape to make it easy to clean. It holds the water perfectly. I've turned it upside down, unlocked the water release thingy and tried my best to shake water out of the mouth piece; I can't even get a drop out of it.It works well. The little finger hole on the lid makes pulling the bottle out of the bottle cage quite easy.
