After receiving the Black Diamond Alpine Carbon trekking poles I took them for an 8.5 mile hike to prove their value. They performed brilliantly, and have been my go to poles since. My previous poles were Leki Corklite aluminum, which were a functional set but they fell short in two key areas. One nagging problem was they vibrated quite a bit. I'm 6'1", 220 lbs, so perhaps I am a bit outside of their designed range. However, I also considered the aluminum construction a possible reason for this. Other issues involved the shape of the handles and the rubbery cork compound wasn't the most pleasing after a lot of sweating. The Black Diamond Alpine Carbons solved both of the issues I had with the Leki Corklites. The carbon fiber construction is very solid, lightweight, and vibrations are amply absorbed by the structure before they make it to my hands. I've leaned on the carbon poles in steep sections many times and have always found them to be strong and unyielding when I needed the support. The FlickLock Pro locks are very easy to use for adjusting the length of the poles. Metal is used in the firmly tensioned lever tabs and I've never had the locks slip or give. A new shape and materials are a nice improvement over the original flicklocks and more substantial than the plastic levered speedlock 2 used on the Leki poles. The handles of the alpine carbons are very well designed. At first they appear almost simple when compared with handles like those of the Leki poles. However, I learned that this simplicity was certainly by design. I previously learned that I preferred as few knobs or obstructions in the grip area as possible. The alpine carbon grips allow me to put my hand anywhere on the handle and feel the same comfort. The cork material used by Black Diamond is much nicer than the material used by Leki. After much sweating, the cork grips of the alpine carbon poles maintain the same dry texture and positive grip.Even the straps of these poles are well designed. It would be easy to skimp on this area but Black Diamond put same level of quality into them as the rest of the design. The primary material is a strong fabric that doesn't stretch and is backed by soft mesh. The mesh feels nice against the skin and wicks sweat away, which helps maintain comfort after the miles start stacking up. I was confused by the strap adjustment at first, but once I looked up some videos, it was comically simple to use. The strap locks are very strong as well and don't slip despite taking the majority of force during use.Lastly, the tips of the alpine carbon poles are strong and I like the low profile baskets. The low profile resists snagging on weeds and brush much better than my last poles. The included snow baskets are a nice addition that are great to bring along should sections of snow be expected.I highly recommend the Black Diamond Alpine Carbon poles to anyone who is looking for a strong, lightweight trekking pole with a higher level of feel. They will hold up to tough conditions and not flex or vibrate like an aluminum pole. Black Diamond's designers put a lot of effort into this design and it really pays off for the end user.

I've put hundreds of miles on these and they show no signs of slowing down. Other than some scrapes from the Sierra granite and sweat stains on the grips, they still look great too. I get very little vibration through the poles. The added stability is great and very reliable. I know where these poles will hit the ground and they will stay there. Of course they are a much welcomed aid in the ascents, doing a lot to save your back, knees, and ankles. I've used other poles but these are my favorites, I even picked up a back up pair at an REI garage sale for $25.Fair warning with any cork grip. While great for sweat wicking it does retain salts. These salts can attract animals, they want to eat them.I once had to scare off a deer that was getting too friendly with the strap. It tried to run off with it but luckily dropped it. If I wasn't awake, I'd be down a pole or at least a grip. Anyways this was only once in dozen of nights on trail so not really a reason to skip cork because they really are better than most synthetic grips, just something to be mindful of at camp.

Three outings with these so far. Carbide tips show no wear from a rock and gravel trail. Very easy to adjust the size. The only thing that I would want is for these things to be a bit longer for my needs. I am hiking in areas where there is a 30 degree slope (guess) and when I am going down hill, I have to lean forward more than I would like to, to properly plant these things. Keep in mind that I am 5'9", so if you are shorter or your slope is not as great as mine, then the length of these would not be an issue for you. Uphill no issues. Never uses poles before, but now I am a convert. Keeps you on your feet.

My only gripe with these poles is the latches. If the poles are fully collapsed, the latches don’t engage the pole so they move around a bit. Without any tension on the latch, it comes undone more easily.Similarly, twice now I almost lost the lowest segment of a pole while hiking through thick brush off trail (with poles extended). The latch opened up (presumably after catching on something) and next thing I knew I was digging through thick underbrush to find it. The latches should be better engineered, or of a different mechanism at this price point and for this brand.

I've only used them twice so far hiking in the Petrified forest and on the mule trail in the Grand Canyon, but so far very happy with the functionality.I gave them 4 stars and not 5 because the little plastic covers on the shaft latches are a bad design and made very cheaply. 2 of the 4 on my 2 poles broke off on the 2nd use. I would expect that with poles this expensive this kind of thing would not happen. If they were not there at all it would be better. A waste for both manufacturer and leaves a negative product impression for the customer.

These poles have taken a big load off of my knees. They are great going up hill and fantastic when coming down! I used them all summer doing an average of twelve miles a week in my two day hikes and 20+ miles per week two weeks when I was able to get away for three days at a time. My hiking was mostly in the Sawtooth mountains of central Idaho!

I've got 260 miles on these poles so far. I expect to get a couple thousand more. They show no signs of wear.I'm using them on the PCT after a set of less expensive trekking poles I purchased failed.Great product.

Used these a a section hike on PCT and had several times from bad step to high winds that knocked me sideways and put these to the test and they held me and pack without breaking. Great product.

These poles are really nice. They collapse easily and stay locked in place when needed. The grip is really comfortable and the poles are very lightweight. I really enjoy using them!

Light weight and strong, however plastic parts on locks is easy to break off. The lock will continue to work as it is mainly metal, it just becomes more difficult to operate.

Polls are solid and have absolutely saved my ass on declines with a 50lb pack. Only complaint is they’re just so heavy for carbon polls, especially at this price point.

Good quality, bit out of the box a plastic cap broke off already. So that was a shocker.Glued it back on and good so far.But great product.

17 mile hike in a day (for someone out of shape) could have only be done with this awesome poles through all terrais and water crossings.

The locks sit tight and the armbands stay snug. I've only hiked about 100miles with these, but so far they've worked great.

Lightweight, great customer service, and all in all a great product. Excited to go to Arizona and try these out!
