Used for 7 years, bulletproof, bounces around the car all the time always the first optic I use. For the price you WON'T get a better optic than this. I'm very impressed, don't be put off by the perception of it being cheap and tacky. OK it's no Opticron, but for the price it's a great piece of kitValue for money...A+++++++Ease of use...B+ (See bad point, no eye piece rain cap)Comfort...A+ (even single hand use it's easy to hold steady)I find the image quite crisp, clear and decent in low lighting. It's also small enough to go into the smallest of small rucksack or the coat pocket quite comfortably. For me the biggest plus is the fact you can easily use it one handed.I always have it in my coat pocket whilst dog walking and I can easily hold onto the dog and focus it with the one hand. What it lacks / Bad points-rain cap cover for the eyepiece lens. A tethered cap like the object lens would be useful(you can buy a 42mm cover for £2 on ebay)-tripod mount screw in wrist / neck strap would be a huge plus.(I've made my own neck strap that screws into the tripod fitting)-occasionally you notice a slight blurring where you have strong colours meeting BUT you need to spend of £150 before you get optics to remove that. I notice it sometimes but it doesn't worry me-don't bother with the belt loop on the bag it's flaps about like a sail in the wind if you're doing any serious tramping. Just stick it in the pocketHope this is useful for the starter you'd struggle to find better value for money. The quality of the optics are very good for the price

Like most reviewers I have a good pair of binoculars but was looking for something easily accessible in the car and which I could put in my pocket when walking Fido. I decided on a monocular and the Barr and Stroud Sprite having read so many good reviews. It is well made and feels like a quality product. Being waterproof is an added bonus. The eyepiece comes out via 4 different positions and I need the last position to get a good view. The focussing wheel on top is silky smooth and easy to operate with the index finger of the holding hand. I first used it in low light conditions and the amount of light coming in was impressive with a clear light image. Whilst possible to hold it with just one hand, because of the x10 magnification I find that two hands are better to reduce shake. The monocular comes in a carrying case with the tripod (unused as yet) however I find that it fits perfectly into the drink holder in the car enabling instant access. I recommend it!

I purchased this monocular to carry round with me to do birdwatching when I don't want to take a big spotting scope. It is pocketable (if you have big pockets) and the 10x magnification is good. Images are quite clear and sharp with not too much flare or ghosting. There is some chromatic aberration (colour fringing around object edges in strong sunlight) but that's due to the lack of ED elements. I also like the fact it comes with a case and little tripod which has come in handy to keep things steady. There is a front flip-down cap but weirdly no rear cap (not sure if it's supposed to come with one) but I think it should for protection. Focus is easy and the eye relief is good too. Overall, pleasing results and handy to take when you don't want the bulk/weight of a karge scope of binoculars.

I’m a DofE Expedition Supervisor, Ten Tors Manager, and a member of Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team, and wanted something durable, weatherproof and capable of dealing with fairly low light levels. I struggle with binoculars as I’m a little short sighted, and struggle to get a composite image with two lenses, so thought I’d give these a go, and I’m very pleased I did. I had been looking at some more expensive models, but these do the job very well. They take up a little more space than my compact binoculars, but not by much, and the lens is much bigger, so the light-gathering is better, focus is really easy to use,and virtually everyone who’s scanned the horizon with them has commented positively on the quality of the image.Highly recommended.

A really good scope and excellent value for money. I purchased it to save some weight for a holiday and for the extra magnification over a similar priced set of binoculars. The view is extremely clear and sharp and magnification excellent. I used it on safari and it worked faultlessly it works for birds in flight as well as animals at distance. My only issues were that the tripod supplied is small, flimsy and obviously cheap so I bought a Cullmann Magnesit Copter Multiple Tripod Includes CB2.7 to go with it and this worked really well. It could maybe do with a lug for a strap or lanyard as well but I didn't have any real issues without it.If these issues were fixed it would be a five star rating. All in all a good purchase.

Wanted a wee scope for holidays.this monocular is very handy.it has its own tripod 1/4" thread and tabletop tripod.optics are very good with long eye relief for glasses users.the front cover stays on the ota and just drops down so you don't lose it.the eye relief can be adjusted by a 4 step rotation.it can be focused with one hand using your index finger although it is a slow rate.the focus wheel is big enough if you were wearing gloves in cold weather.the tripod has legs that extend to 8" with a ball and socket head that has 90 degrees of movement.it has its own carry bag that holds the tripod too.a well thought out piece of kit and would recommend to anyone looking something light fortravelling.

Having used and excellent pair of 7 X 50 Russian binoculars (large and heavy) for the past 40 years I decided I needed something light and small carry around on day trips or on holiday. It would have to be 7 or 10 times magnification and have a 50mm object lens to give a good field of view and good light. I bought some 16 X 25 small binoculars a few years ago and they are effectively useless. I opted for a monocular and having looked on the internet what was available decided on Bar & Stroud and found these on Amazon with excellent reviews. Having purchased I am extremely impressed with the contruction, light weight, ease of one-handed operation and most importantly quatity of the optics.

I have to echo many of the reviews, I am thrilled with this monocular, having only 1 eye made buying a pair of bins pointless and Barr + Stroud were recommended by my Father (84) who says they make good strong products. I take it with me in the truck and pack it if I go walking on my belt loop. It has proved invaluable and opened up an otherwise hidden world. Light and with very little shake the image is sharp and clear. Good price and fantastic value for money delivered very quickly by the camera centre Cardiff, NO faults no negative, good looking light bit of kit worth every one of the 4,300 pennies I paid.

This is a nice solid piece of optics. It is surprisingly heavy at 422 gms (nearly 15 oz), but it is a nice size in the hand, and the optics are bright and clear. The 'instructions' included were for a pair of binoculars, so totally irrelevant. There is no explanation of what the four position (click-stop) extending eye-piece does. I can see no visual difference in the image. The 'free' mini-tripod is pretty much an irrelevance, unless you happen to have a shelf at chin level to stand it on!The magnification level is just on the limit of what can be hand-held without 'shake' becoming a problem.

I purchased these as I have already got a pair of Barr & Stroud binoculars that I am pleased with. The 10 x 50 monocular gives good light amplification and is therefore good for astronomy. I originally purchased this for a trip to Norway, and I was very pleased with the performance for bird watching and general landscape viewing. The focus is very simple to use single handed and is very responsive in use. I now carry this as a constant companion as it is lighter than binoculars and takes up less room.I would have liked an eyepiece cover to be provided though.

I use this every morning to bird watch, when I'm walking my dog. It's ideal as you can both view and focus it with one hand easily even when holding the dog lead in the other. Birds that are far off distant and unidentifiable, become large and clear. Comes with a very functional nylon bag that slides onto your belt. The only reason i don't give this product the full 5 stars that it would totally deserve is the tripod that comes with it is too small. When i tried to use it the monocular fell over straight away. Get this mono you won't regret it!

I researched this and found the comments on Amazon helped a lot. This monocular is brilliant, especially for the price - the image is so clear, far better than my old binos, and you really can hold the scope with one hand and focus it and hold the dog's lead in the other. It's also decent for looking at the stars - it's light polluted where I live but I managed to still see Andromeda galaxy as a faint, fuzzy blob - I clearly need a telescope too.Highly recommended, and the supplier I bought from was good and it arrived in no time.

Have tried compact binoculars of various respected brands and non come near to the clarity of this monocular ,this is the first time I have used a monocular as have read mixed reviews on ease of use and effectiveness .The monocular is easy to use whilst out walking for wild life spotting and both myself and my wife are impressed with build quality and optics . For prolonged watching then binoculars would be more comfortable but for quick viewing the weight use ability then I would definitely purchase these .

For £45 I cannot fault this product. It is small enough to carry around in a large pocket, rucksack, panniers etc and yet powerful to give a good clear view and retain colour correctly.I've not owned a monocular before so have no comparison but after testing it today with wildlife and seascapes it does everything I expected for the price. The case seems good enough quality. The tripod is not going to be up to much but I figured that before purchase.Great product

I got this for a handy way fo seeing birds/wildlife better on wa;lks, as well as from my kitchen window. Its lens is wide enough to give a good field of vision and the magnification really does make the difference between looking at a dot in the distance to being able to recognise and appreciate what you're looking at.And it's still perfectly ok despite falling off my car roof onto the road at 30mph, so i can testify to its hard-wearing qualities!
