I originally reviewed this bag the day after receiving it, and was experiencing some frustration at a couple of niggly design flaws. This is the edited version of the review after using it for several weeks. As a carry bag it's good. As a pannier it's reasonable. As a solution to do both which is the whole point, it generally succeeds but with a few niggles. The bag itself has a nice big padded laptop compartment in the main compartment and a semi rigid back plate to keep the bag's shape and protect the contents from bumping against the bike frame. It has a ouble-zipped flap for easy access to the capacious main compartment. It also has a good sized front compartment (full depth and width of the bag,so good for documents, folders, chargers etc) with 3 internal pockets, one zippered, two not. The small pocket holds a separate rolled-up waterproof cover. I've repurposed this pocket for my wireless mouse as it's the perfect size. The rain cover now just sits at the bottom of the front compartment. The quick release rack clips seem to work quite nicely. 3 sets of grommets are provided to accommodate different thicknesses of rack. Push on to lock, pull strap to unlock. This works quite well. I did struggle initially to find a spacing that put it far enough back to stop my size 12 heel hitting the corner when pedalling, and also keep it in place. You need to place at least one of the clips so it butts up just behind a vertical bar on the rack. Otherwise despite the grip of the rubber, the bag will slide forwards when you brake. However now I've found the right position it works well. There's also a detachable shoulder strap that clips onto external buttons. The clip mechanism for the pannier rack and the lower velcro strap are inside a zipped flap cover so you can carry the bag with these covered up. This cover could also be used for storage for documents etc, while you're not using the bag on a bike rack. As soon as you need to attach to the bike, you'll need to put the contents elsewhere as this compartment will now be outside so is likely to get wet and dirty if conditions are bad. Perhaps not so useful for documents after all.The biggest flaw with this bag is what on earth do you do with the huge flap when the bag is fixed to your bike? There seem to be only two options: 1) let it hang over the rack and down the other side, flapping about in the wind. 2) let it hang back over the bag and flap about even worse in the wind! I thought surely there is some clever way to roll it up and fasten it but no, it seems not. There's a little webbing strap loop at the bottom of the flap but if you roll the flap up you can't access that as it's inside the roll. So it must not be for that."Flap management" (my term) is not mentioned in any of the reviews anywhere online (not that there seems to be many for this particular bag. The Vaude youtube videos don't mention this. Not even the online so-called instruction book (link to Issuu provided by a QR code on the tag) talks about this specific bag and the secret of what to do with that infernal annoying flap. The fixing to the lower part of the rack (to keep the bag vertical and stop it bouncing over bumps) is, disappointingly, a velcro strap. So I've clipped the bag to my bike with these clever quick release hooks, but then I've got to faff about with my hands between the bag and the wheel to secure it at the bottom. This bag should have had the rotating plastic clip of some of the other Vaude bike products. There's room for that backplate under the flap! Or failing that just have a small flap to cover the actual clips which wouldn't flap around, and have the velcro strap on the outside of the bag. Would have been cheaper to make (shorter zip, less lining) and much more sensible. When I first got the bag I spent twenty minutes trying to work out the best way to set it up without finding a good solution. This showed so much promise but ultimately feels like a design student's first year project!I found this annoying as I wanted a neat solution to carry a laptop, accessories and a change of clothes to work that is hassle free and just clips and unclips to the bike and can be carried like a normal bag when not on the bike. This bag seemed to fit the bill but is flawed. Why does a product to match this basic, obvious use case seemingly not exist anywhere? After using this for a while I've come up with a workable solution. I roll up the flap and secure it with a clothes peg! When not on the bike I store the peg under the flap, clipped onto to the release strap for the rack clips. It's not ideal, and still grates that I have to do this for a product aimed at cycle commuting from a premium brand like Vaude. But it works.I've been caught in one heavy rain shower since commuting with this bag, and had to stop to put the rain cover on. Fortunately the waterproofing of the bag material itself is good and no water entered. In prolonged heavy rain though, you want to the cover on quick as water would inevitably find its way through the zip and under the main compartment flap. A little fiddly to get this out at the roadside but that will get better with practice. Once on it held in place with elastic and looks like it would keep the rain out. Opening the bag to get the cover out though does give a great opportunity to get the bag full of water! A little storage pocket on the outside for the packed up rain cover would be really useful. Ideally the cover would be captive too so couldn't get lost. Oh well. Another minor gripe, the outside pocket will collect water and seems to have no drain holes. In heavy rain without the rain cover you'd end up carrying around a litre or so of water in this pocket!I would have been quite disappointed with this bag had I paid full price; the black version is over £90! But for what I paid I'm happy with the bag. Despite its flaws it serves the purpose and is well made.

This pannier can be hung on either side of the rack but the best feature is the zippered flap on the back that covers the hooks when not on the bike. This make it look like an ordinary shoulder bag smart enough for any office environment. The hooks are a clever design that just snap shut onto the rack by pushing from the front. To release them a small strap handle releases both hooks at the same time just by lifting. Four diameters of tube (8.5 10.5 13 16) are accommodated with replaceable grommets (supplied) in the hooks. A rain cover is included. Very pleased and I will buy a second one for the other side.
