I just cannot believe it is made in china, as this torch really is great quality and amazingly durable and waterproof to about 1m depth for 30seconds i think, but i sow a guy on you tube turning it on and dropping it inside a washing machine with clothes for a full wash and it not just survived, it was also still working and didn't turn off.I would not try it eith this one tho since it is 3x aaa using a plastic battery holder that is inside the housing, even this holders are easy to replace and even buy better quality ones, it still is maybe the only thing on this flashlight that can break. It puts a very bright white flood light with a very bright white spot in the middle.2 Light modes are more than enough,120lumens (up to 6 hours light) and 19lumens (up to 40 hours of light) and the battery life is very good compared to more expensive torches.Capable of standing up securely on a flat surface to serve as candle and lightens up whole room as the light is reflected from ceiling. No focusing system, which is not a big deal since it does light up a good range, enough for basic civilian needs, i don't need a flashlight that has such a range that i would need binoculars to see that far. This is the best under 20quid flashlight i ever had and really is more than just worth the price.Don't forget that most torches like this one require batteries that are designed for high drain devices, cheap batteries could overheat, i only use the same Varta High Energy batteries as supplied or Energizer Lithium, they are expensive, but i can be sure they will not fail and/or create potential hazard plus they have a very good lifespan. So why 4/5 stars?there is no lanyard hole or a belt clip so i can only carry it in my bag or have to get a flashlight belt pouch and this is bigger and heavier than other 3xAAA torches it is also too big and heavy for EDC.

I thought this was an impressive bit of kit. Designed so it can stand upright on either end and it is stable on its side. The carrying handle means it can hook over a shelf or similar up to 30mm thick. Though it weighs in at 538 grams empty the four batteries obviously increase this but I didn't find this a problem for the twenty minutes I was walking in a local wood. The low power option will give 70 hours use though only 20 on the powerful and very bright full beam but I will be interested to see how the battery drain effects this.Like another reviewer I was curious about the bulb replacement so I emailed Varta. Their reply was that the LED bulb should last between 50,000 and 100,000 hours (5.7 to 11 years)and as they said: it should outlast the life of the lantern.Having put the four batteries in you'll need to line up two internal white arrows to screw the top on correctly (see my photo by clicking: View and share related images) a white blob of paint or some other mark on the outside casing will solve having to find the arrows when you replace the batteries in low light.I like this unit, it looks and feels robust and from my minimum use so far I think this is handy product to have after dark.*Though it has absolutely no bearing on the lantern I found the reverse side of product sheet, in the in the blister-pack, has text in 27 languages set in the world's smallest typeface. Some buyers might have to use this information and it really should have been in a larger type.

First, this is much brighter than my other torches that have multiple LEDs. the single LED in this Varta is amazingly bright, though the light it throws has a bright circle in the middle with a large more diffuse circle that spreads wider. The quality of light is genuinely room filling.Pressing the rubber power button (slightly awkwardly placed in the end of the torch) cycles between off, low power and high power. The torch is rated at 40 hours battery life, presumably on low power. The three batteries fit in their own little 'caddy' inside the battery compartment that comes out. Makes it a bit easier to see which way round they go.Since it's described as indestructible, I threw it on the floor a few times, and of course it didn't bat an eyelid. I didn't fancy throwing it from an upstairs window, but according to the claims, it should survive that, with its extremely chunky body made from thick metal and rubberised end pieces. It's water resistant but not water proof. My only small criticism is that you can't switch the torch on and off with your thumb like on most torches because of the placement of the power button.Otherwise, it's small but chunky, superbright, and, so far, indestructible.I kept this review sample for myself and bought a second one for my father. He's very happy with it.

This is an excellent little torch. Whether it is "indestructible" only time will tell, but its construction is rugged and substantial. No surprise then that the product comes with a 3-year guarantee. The torch fits nicely into any pocket and certainly feels capable of withstanding any knocks. The torch arrived very well packed from Amazon, and with the required 3 AAA batteries supplied. Unscrewing the end of the torch reveals a plastic cartridge into which the batteries are easily fed. The on-off switch being located at the end of the torch, which along with the two beam settings are selectable via sequential clicks. I have been very impressed with the brightness of the beam on full power, and the 40-hours of battery life on the lower energy-saver setting is very reassuring. The cost of £14.23, reduced from the RRP of £19.99, may still seem excessive for some users for a small pocket-torch of this nature, but if the torch lives up to its claims in relation to durability and battery-life, then it can be a welcome addition any home.

This torch is about the length of a ballpoint pen, and reasonably narrow so fits comfortably in the hand. It is all black, and the main body is very robust metal, and the ends have very dense rubber which does give it a really solid feel. I don't know about indestructible, but you would have to put your mind to it to damage it.The bottom end unscrews to take the three AAA batteries (included) and also has a presser on the end for the switch. you get the brightest setting from one push (which is extremely bright), and a perfectly acceptable lower level with a second press. I had to work in the loft for several hours and used this on the lower setting for a good amount of that time, and it was perfect. It's also small enough to hold with your mouth if you need to use both hands for something, which is helpful if working in an awkward space. This is probably the best torch I've owned and I hope it lasts as I would like to keep it for a long time.

having lost my led lenser off my keys when the keyring snapped I needed to get a new torch for fumbling with doors in the dark and general light duties. I didn't want to spend a lot but at the same time I didn't want something that came out of a Christmas cracker that would fail after a month. I checked this torch out on youtube and it seemed perfect for the job and being water resistant (ive seen it fully submerged in water and still working) this was the torch for me!. The torch is very light and the lens and tail are rubber coated for maximum impact protection. the beam is not focusable but for your keys who cares? the battery loads by taking the lens off and turns on by screwing the lens all the way down.im not sure if the lens will loosen and fall off by accident but im sure if i give it a cursory check now and again it will be fine. the torch is 8cm long and 1.2cm thick so wont bog your car keys down. A very happy customer!

This is a great chunky torch...the beam has two settings..and is very powerful...great for nipping out to the shed for that screwdriver....or keep it near the fuse box for that blackout moment.Maybe it could have been a bright colour..or silver...easier to find if you leave it in a drawer. The batteries are supplied..which is a nice touch....so you can get it up and running right away. I think another reviewer pointed out that the switch is on the bottom of the handle base...which is a bit weird...maybe the designer shave been watching too many episodes of the x files and the fringe...or we should be using it with our service automatics.....Batteries load into a little cartridge(plastic)..whichthen slides into the torch body....so I'm thinking the old battery/metal corrosion issue might be reduced.I'd say good value for the robust and useful gadget.

Picked up the small 1AAA variant to put on my car keys, it fits quite nicely on my keys and isn't much bigger than my standard car key (late 2000s non-folding VW type). I already own the larger 3C torch which has a regular place in my car/rucksack. The 1AAA version is significantly smaller, and is made of plastic rather than metal... but this makes it weigh much less it looks. Not sure it should really carry the 'indestructible' label of it's larger sibling however. It isn't actually much more powerful than the LED torch on my Android phone, but puts out a much cleaner "white" light rather than the somewhat "yellow" natural light of my phone. Overall pleased with the product and packaging - always nice to get a free battery!I suspect it'll get a fair bit of use on holiday in the next few weeks and later in the year as the nights draw in!

I only used to know the name of Varta because of their batteries. However, I threw caution to the wind and bought their LED Day Torch last year and found it to be perfect for my requirements. My son gave me some Amazon vouchers for Father's Day and, although I already had a long, heavy metal long beam torch beside our bed, I decided to buy the lantern so that it could be stored in an easily accessible place downstairs. The Lantern is relatively light and is powerful. It has a rigid carrying handle, which contains the switch, which means that it is easy to transport and use. It has two levels of light intensity. The higher one is always the first to come on, which is grand, but the torch needs two pushes of the button to switch off as the second push gives the lower level beam. It is well engineered and thoroughly recommended.

I use this torch for my work and up to now it is working very well,i have given this item 4 stars at the moment as i have used a number of torches and normally the switch fails after a short time!if it is still working in 6 months i will give it another star if not it will lose one.I must say that this torch is built very well so i have my fingers crossed.I have been using this torch for sometime now and it still works perfect GREAT PRODUCT I think that this could be the best torch on the market!.If it lasts another 3 months I will give it another star!.It's now July and all still OKThis is without the best in the World !the switch quality is A1 & mine has been switched on & off thousands of times. If you want a powerful torch that will last you many years (this is the one)Just Fantastic.FIVE STARS FOR SURE.

Aircraft grade black aluminium body and a beam of light that is like a mini searchlight. I really like this torch! It's got a nice weight to it and the batteries fit very snugly (you can hear the air being pushed out as they slide smoothly into the body of the torch with about 0.5mm clearance. This is high quality precision engineering). It looks as though it would survive an accidental drop from a great height but I'm not going to risk it. This is a torch for life and I can't stop playing with it. (night-time) "What's that noise in the garden? I'll just get the torch and find out!"UP-DATE SEPT 2014 - This torch is still in the bedside cabinet and it still throws out a strong beam of light.Used it the other night to scare off a fox about 100 yards away. He had nowhere to hide in the light!

They call it 'indestructible', and it quite possibly is !! Quite a weighty item with the three C-cell batteries in it, made from aluminium with rubber covers on either end, and an extending rubber lip around the lens, so it shouldn't even mark if you drop it. The torch feels reassuringly solid, the round handle is comfortable to hold, but is 'squared off' towards the head of the torch, as is the protective rubber, so it's not going to roll around if you put it on a flat surface. The on/off push button is recessed in the base of the torch - push once for a bright beam, push again for a less bright but still adequate light, and push a third time for off. Something for the boot of the car,or your toolbox, that can be thrown around without damaging it.Very good torch - very pleased with it

Nothing bad to say about this torch from Varta. Very solid, well made and a very bright beam. Not sure why they felt the need to have a mode where you can make it dimmer to save 'energy' though as LED's by design consume a lot less than a conventional bulb. Just an on an off would have been fine. From a practical point of view, I like that the switch is on the bottom and not along the body of the torch as it doesn't get switched off accidentally. Also unlike other high bower beam designs which can be a bit bulky, this Varta torch has a nice slim design so it fits into a kitchen drawer without hassle and sits in the hand easily. We have not had cause to test the dropped from 9 metres claim, but it feels very substantial so it should last a long time.A top product easily recommended.

This is review of "Varta 3W LED Indestructible Beam Lantern".I'm really impressed with this torch. It's incredibly powerful and is really a mobile spotlight. The range really has to be seen to be believed, I'd estimate over 50M easily. It has 2 levels, which seem to be bright and incredibly bright. It includes batteries which is always a nice bonus. I haven't tested it's indestructibleness, but I can well believe it. It's very well build and feels very heavy and solid. Obviously it's not intended as such, but bear in mind, it's very big and won't fit in a pocket. If you want a very powerful, long range and tough light, this won't disappoint.Another great product from Varta!

Amazing torch! I bought the 3 AAA powered version and the light output is plenty sufficient for walking and camping uses and the dimmer power saving mode is great for just helping to find something in the dark of a tent in the night or simply saving the batteries when they might run flat. The torch is chunkier than I expected but it is certainly rugged and dependable, with a section of rubber grip which is extremely useful in wet conditions and it isn't noticeably heavier than most standard torches. After months of being used in infamous British weather and being dropped on walking and camping trips, it is still working perfectly and only has a few minor superficial scratches.
