I had the opportunity to rent one of these scopes last week at Yellowstone. I may never be able to afford to buy one, but the scope is of breathtaking quality. The objective is large enough that 70x is usable - not normally necessary, but in this particular case I wanted an image large enough to try taking a picture of with my cell phone, and was able to. The rental included a good tripod and a pistol grip which I found very helpful for getting the scope on target - I normally use pan heads with binoculars and scopes and was impressed by the usability of the pistol grip. The ergonomics and view are superb. Focus and zoom are well placed, zoom is stiff enough not to be accidentally moved, focus is very smooth. The image is clear to or close to the edge of field. I was using the glass on stationary targets, so I wouldn't have noticed rolling ball much if it was present. The out of focus image shows spherical artifacts as the optic comes to focus, but in focus and stationary the artifacts aren't noticeable. I had the scope set to a comfortable height for me, but others were fine with it at that height over a range of 6 inches of height.I found myself using the scope mostly in the range of 30x to 60x or so, simply because I didn't need to go higher than that to see quite a lot of detail on my target, wolves at a distance of about a mile. I was able to distinguish facial and ear markings at those magnifications, and at 70 diameters the cell phone image - taken handheld - was able to pick them up as well. The issues with this photo are not those of the scope but of the fact that I was simply letting the phone autoexpose and hoping for the best. I have cropped the image and made minor adjustments to the contrast and brightness as the photo is just a "shaky hand production" - not intended as a serious photo by any means. I have not applied sharpening to the image.
