The Spyderco Ladybug is the smallest popular model of Spyderco's line-up, but the cutting power of the ladybug in hand far exceeds expectations, and its Spyder-hole one hand opening makes it quick to hand and use.The standard ladybug uses VG-1 steel in a more standard drop-point or modified sheepsfoot blade, that presents a point and flat, mostly serrated edge. The serrated edge affords saw-like ripping cut power that can chew through seatbelt nylon as well as cardboard or paper. This is a great pocket knife for watch-pocket (3rd pocket jeans) with a short lanyard or attached to a keyring with a split ring. I've given these to my relatives for keyring carry for any utility use.The Ladybug H-1 Hawkbill amps up this capability.Firstly H-1 Steel isn't "stain-less", it's "stain-proof", which means H-1 steel knives are great for fresh or salt-water fishing, for utility use in the rain and snow, for forgetting in the toolbox, for swimming and diving. Secondly, the Hawkbill blade shape is renown for its ability to cut fibrous materials more easily; that, plus the serrations and you have an even more effective cutting tool in such a small size. I carry this every day on the job for opening boxes, cutting reinforced tape seals, etc. Its small size makes it even less threatening than a box-cutter, or a larger pocket knife, but it is every bit as effective. (...Except for cutting up an apple; but it can help peel an orange.)

I pair my Spyderco Hawkbill with a Fenix LD01 for my EDC keychain combo. This is the third Ladybug Hawkbill I've purchased... It's the perfect keychain knife. There is a saying somewhat along the lines of "the best knife is the one you use the most", and I definitely use this little guy on an almost daily basis. The only downfall is it's small size makes it easy to misplace, which is why I have purchased three (one was gifted to a relative). But the same would be said about any small keychain knife. This knife is well suited for daily cutting activities, and could also be used as a last resort for personal protection (see YouTube videos- it could be a nasty slicer).Very easily concealable and non-threatening when in the closed position. Check out Spyerco for their other knives if you require a larger EDC or utility knife. I've been using Spyderco for over 10 years now and have nothing but positives to say for knives in this price range: blade durability, quality of the knife and handle, and aesthetics (which may not matter to most of you).

This is a great little knife. I originally purchased the Ladybug 3 FRN H1 Hawkbill for my wife, but ever since she opened it, I have been trying to steal it. Unfortunately, it seems she, too, likes the knife, which is unusual since she is by no means a knife person. Apparently, the friendly color and petite size of the Ladybug 3 make it seem less menacing, while the hawkbill blade still provides a wicked cutting surface for a knife this small. Add in the fact that the H1 blade steel means that I can slip the knife in the pocket of my running or swimming shorts without worrying about salt damaging the blade and you have a real winner. Though, I am not wild about the yellow FRN (admittedly, the color could be good for outdoors uses) and would like to see the knife come with a small wire style pocket clip, I definitely plan to purchase one of these for myself in the near future - unless, I can somehow steal my wife's without her noticing...

I have this beauty on a paracord lanyard with a fenix LD01 and it makes for a great, compact edc pair. For such a small knife, it is wicked sharp and cuts like nobody's business. It's not threatening - I can open it in front of people and they'll say - what a cute knife! - everyone loves the color, until they see it cut up stuff, then it's scary cute. Someone even likened it to a mini kerambit, which does make sense, but that's turning it into a weapon, which I dislike. i'd rather think of it as a tool. But logically, any sharp knife IS a weapon. Other things I like about it is it has good blade retention so it's not likely to open in your pocket. For such a small knife,it's easy to open one handed (unless you wear xxxl gloves). I'd rather not close it one handed for safety reasons, but that's beside the point for such a small blade. Overall a great value, fits point of use exactly, looks great, performs wonderfully. Buy it.

My father-law gave me a spyderco ladybug knife for Christmas last year, and I loved it. The blade stayed sharp far longer than any other pocket knife I'd ever owned. I used it for everything. It was the perfect size for carrying in your pocket. I ended up having to trash it when I forget I had it on my keys when I showed up for jury duty. I didn't realize how expensive they were otherwise I would have gone and buried it outside!! I missed it so much. I finally figured out what model it was and saw that there was one in the hawkbill. I picked it up and have loved it so much. It's even better than the first one. I love the serrated edge with the hook at the end. It has been a fantastic knife so far.If it holds up half as well as the last, I'll be more than happy. Definitely worth the money.

I bought this on impulse after recently purchasing a Spyderco Spyderhawk. Handling this knife shows the remarkable quality. The dimensions of this knife allow the bi-directional texture to really be non slip as they are smaller than a standard endura or delica, even with only a three finger grip. I am not really into small knives as I prefer larger blades around 3.5 inches or longer but this knife will be the exception. I love hawk-bills and I cannot complain about rust resistant steel. It is so lightweight I see the need for a lanyard. I give it a four and a half out of five star rating only because I was hoping that it would have a miniature pocket clip but doesn't.Looks like kydex is in order.

I love how small this knife is... I made myself a sheath for it out of HDPE that's the same color and installed a paracord lanyard.. I originally got this to carry around my neck while kayaking. It's now one of my EDC work knives too. This was my first serrated knife, and although I find it useful at times.. I'll probably get a PE hawkbill as my next knife purchase. I take the paracord that I use to hang it around my neck and insert it into two belt loops and pull the knife and sheath through the other end.. Kinda like what you would achieve through a prusik knot. My only complaint about this product is the steel.. H1 just doesn't seem to hold an edge as long as I'd like it to...

I've been carrying a knife on my keychain for close to 20 years, including two previous Ladybugs (both sadly lost). I've been carrying this one for over a year now, and it is hands-down the handiest of them all. My primary use for a pocket knife is opening boxes. The hawkbill blade shape makes it the easiest knife I've used to slide the blade along the joint of a taped-up box. It also does a find job of putting blister-packs in their place: the tip easily pierces them, and once in, you can get a controlled cut with firm pressure, letting me get at the contents without too much of a fight, and without accidentally damaging them. A fantastic little tool.

This is the best knife I have ever carried. Don't be fooled by its size (it is tiny BTW), this knife is just about perfect for EDC. I keep it out of sight in my 5th jean pocket and the fit is perfect. You barely even realize it is there. Perfect for anything you need a knife for on a daily basis and not a big deal to others if you pull it out in front of others in the office. The hawkbill works well and the blade is extremely sharp. I did put a short loop of gutted paracord through the end just to make it easier to pull out of my pocket. Love the yellow hi-viz color.I look forward to using this knife for many years to come.

This is my first Spyderco, but there will be more to come. I knew I'd like it just from the pictures and reading all the positive reviews. It is a tiny knife. That was my first impression when I took it out of the box. I soon forgot about the size because it's so handy and capable of things I would only expect from a larger knife. It's super sharp and easy to open and close with one hand. Although I'm already shopping for my next Spyderco, I expect to carry this one in my pocket for a long time. If you're trying to decide whether or not to buy this exceptional baby blade, stop wasting time and put it in your cart.

I had this little gem in the pocket of my swim trunks every day for a week while I swam in Lake Superior and forgot to take it out when I got home. When my wife found it after removing from the wash machine there was not a spot of rust anywhere. The serrations don't look like much but trust me when I tell you they are wicked sharp. I lightly ran my finger tip along the blade and gave myself a nice gash for my trouble. Some people have compared this to 99 cent gas station knives because of it's size but I can say that it has all the quality built into it that you would expect from any Spyderco knife.

The quality is evident when you handle and open the knife. Makes a great day to day carry knife because of the small size and light weight. I am not into the rambo/crocodile dundee look for my knives and this is perfect. The feel of the knife is very good and secure even with large hands. I like to clip it on my vest when kayaking or canoeing. The serrated blade works well on tough materials. The yellow will hopefully prevent me from having to replace another lost knife. The only thing to be aware of is it is really, really small. Specs are one thing but you might be surprised when you see it.

I was bitten by the Spyder years ago, and have learned one valuable thing. If I see a Spyderco I like, I jump on it immediately, as the company discontinues models all of the time. Often, a model will return briefly in a limited edition "sprint run", and those generally sell out quickly because of a wide collector base. This model is small, tough, and insanely sharp. At this price, if you've considered collecting, this one is a good start. Legendary quality on a knife that may or may not be around for long.

I have two and I have bough one as a gift for a friend. Bought my first drop point blade for my kayaking vest. Really liked the size, sharpness and that it is waterproof. Bought the hawkbill as well just to try the option. I prefer the drop point for everyday use, so that lives in my pocket and the hawkbill is in my PFD.This is in no way a big knife - but it is one that I ALWAYS have with me. Slips right into your pocket, takes up little space. Perfect for opening more Amazon boxes!

this is a small blade that I bought for cutting ties. Even though it is a small form, it is a comfortable hand fit, light weight and has already survived exposure with no damage or corrosion. as a small serrated hawkbill, it has limited utility, but its a good choice if you have room for an extra, specialized tool. its still razor sharp, but it picked this brand because, unlike other manufactures, this company will provide factory sharpening for serrated blades.
