In the Darksiders series, you play as one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The first game you play as War, the second Death, and the third Fury. The Horsemen serve The Charred Council who aim to bring balance between the warring factions of Heaven and Hell, with Humanity caught in between.Fury is tasked in finding and defeating the Seven Deadly Sins with a “Watcher” accompanying her on her quest. It's not that important to have played the previous games, although the story does tie in.As her name suggests, Fury has a fiery personality, very belligerent. She is quite a refreshing change from the standard protagonists. Initially, she doesn't seem a nice person, and has a dislike for Humanity. But she does have a personality ark, so develops as the story progresses. The first game was strongly influenced by The Legend Of Zelda, the second game focussed a bit more on combat and platforming, and now the third takes strong influence from the Dark Souls series. The puzzles have been stripped back, and the difficulty ramped up. Now, enemies can often take you down in a few hits, so you have to learn enemies attack patterns and be much more cautious. Sometimes the game can feel a bit unfair, but in other moments it is very fun.The problem with the combat is that the camera can often feel a bit too zoomed in, meaning you don't get a good view of the surrounding enemies. All the fancy effects can obfuscate the enemies too. The enemies are well animated, and give you clear visual and audible cues to when they are attacking.Normal attacks do damage based on your weapon and Strength stat. Strong attacks and counter-attacks do damage based on your Arcane stat. You are encouraged to counter since Arcane damage is higher, many enemies can block, and enemies deal out large damage when attacking. So this means you have to play more cautiously and look for an opening before attacking.Once enemies are defeated, you collect enemy's souls which are used to level up at the Vulgrim points. You can assign a point to Health, Strength or Arcane. Vulgrim is a shopkeeper and trades in souls. These act as check-points which you respawn at when you die. They also act as warp points should you want to revisit an area to explore previously unreachable areas. When you die, you drop the souls that you have collected and you can retrieve them by returning to that location. You can never permanently lose them, so failing to collect them before you die will still keep them available. This system means it is possible to grind out levels by repeatedly defeating the same enemies when you respawn. Fury has a limited use healing item called Nephilim's Respite, which is replenished when you respawn. I found it annoying how it doesn't get replenished when you visit Vulgrim, since you can force a respawn in the menu which will replenish it.At certain points you unlock new forms which give you different powers and a different alternate weapon. The Flame Hollow gives you a vertical boost jump, can set fire to cobwebs, walk on flames, and a small chain weapon. The Storm Hollow gives you the ability to glide, ride wind currents and a lance weapon. The Force Hollow allows you to destroy rocks, walk underwater, turn into a boulder to traverse certain spots, and a mallet weapon. The Stasis Hollow allows you to wall-jump on certain walls, walk along water's surface and freeze it, can freeze objects, slow enemies down, and a blade weapon. These forms are aesthetically cool as they change Fury's hair colour. There's plenty of items to find as you explore. These either give you a temporary stat boost, extra souls, or resources to upgrade your weapons or runes. Upgrading weapons gives them extra damage, and runes can be assigned to a weapon to gain an extra effect. The graphics are very pleasing, and the sound design is very impressive too. Initially, the game decided to default my settings to the lowest setting. After cranking them to Ultra, the graphics still looked very blurry. Seems this is a bug which can be fixed by modifying a config file.I've found the other Darksiders games to be okay, but the games that they are influenced by do their style way better. I actually though Darksiders III is the best in the series. The combat system is good once you get used to it, and I found myself enjoying the game more as the game progressed. I think it does a good job breaking up the action with the occasional puzzle, and the game is well designed so you get the feeling of exploration, and unlocking shortcuts to reduce the tedium of backtracking.

i am a fan of darksiders 1 and 2 thought they were excellent,this...for me, is a fantastic 3rd,i used the classic combat and easiest of the difficulty levels, the patch was automatically installed so i played with the patch so keep that in mind.I have a ps4 pro and a 46 inch samsung hd tv…graphics are superb on it,the gameplay as informed by other reviews (which was really appreciated) prepared me to use evasive manoeuvre’s, this does actually work really well as when you get it right you are placed into a powered up mode when striking back, the whip grows on you pretty fast and does give you good reach so use it to keep your distance as the enemies are brutal it ain’t no walk in the park. You will experience some pause time when loading its not a game stopper, but yeah, is slightly annoying, though compared to my old xbox 360 which put lines on a few of my dvd game discs making them unusable, was not the worst and the game continues, which really is important, camera angles sometimes are in the wrong place forcing you to adapt your controls to compensate, which really should have been avoided, using items mid fight…somehow…sometimes,I found myself changing what item is selected, trying to put it back midfight was not fun but it may just be mewithout giving away spoilers there are more weapons which can be upgraded with artifacts and different hollow power modes, you will find power ups scattered about allowing you to use these to increase your levels,be aware when you do each time, the actual price to purchase from vulgrim will also increase,I found that as the game progressed the items found also increased in amount inline with vulgrims increase,so I used these found power ups to increase my levels as soon as I could and did not save them for later,There is no loot system or mini map,the loot being absent was not really an issue but the mini map being absent was at first disappointing but I was prepared for that as previous reviews made me aware, they use vulgrims locations as a menu driven…different to the previous versions…kind of map,it uses screenshots/pictures of the location which does work pretty dam well…there are some auto save points but are scarce and really should have had better thought applied, when you respawn you arrive at vulgrims location,so when ever I got the chance I would go back to visit vulgrim even if I did not purchase anything in case that could be used as a way for the game to update my progressThe very first part…when you are familiarizing yourself with the whip…BAM you are faced with a boss,it really is a bit rough as it does respawn you back to the beginning each time until defeated, its not far but it’s a little aggravating at the start, grit your teeth and keep going as the game is well worth it.It’s a huge game, plenty of fun time to be had, well worth the wait and thoroughly enjoyed it!

I played with the combat mode set to classic, which rejigs the combat system to be more similar to the first two games and the "Challenging" difficulty setting,so keep that in mind for this review.I am a fan of the Darksiders series, having completed both previous games twice and very much enjoyed them. It took me 24 hours to complete, longer than the first game and shorter than the second. I expect most people to complete the game faster as I spent a great deal of time exploring the optional areas of the game and suffered frequent deaths. Combat on the difficulty I selected is often brutal, and enemies can kill you extremely quickly if you do not learn their attack patterns and use your combinations effectively.I selected the challenging difficulty in the hopes that it would be brutal but fair, and help me improve my skills for other such games. I was not disappointed. The removal of the loot system from Darksiders II if welcome, as it once again allows for consistent character design. Fury looks every bit as badass as War did in the first game. The overall aesthetic of the game is a real high point, as with previous titles, both in terms of character and environmental design. I spent more than a few minutes changing between Fury's elemental forms just to admire the transition animations, they are that well done. The music is also excellent. In comparison to the previous games there is more emphasis on exploration but less emphasis on traversal. There is no shimmying across ledges, jumping between pillars or wall running here. I enjoyed those in previous games but in all honesty did not notice their absence until writing this review. The three pillars of gameplay here are exploration, combat and power. Fury's power increases through a combination of spending the souls of defeated enemies to level up, collecting materials to upgrade her arsenal and expanding that arsenal through advancing the plot. This creates a gameplay loop compelling enough to hold my interest to the end. I look forward to Darksiders IV.

Absolutely brilliant game , take no notice of the crappy reviews on here its probably too difficult for them because this game is very difficult indeed , let me first say that if you love Bloodborne or the Dark Souls series , you'll feel right at home here in gameplay terms anyway , this game is its own beast though as its more story focused & has an almost cel shaded comic book look which suits it perfectly , i love how you can level up weapons & the artefacts that you slot into weapons too , its not as extensive as Dark Souls but its great fun , you upgrade by collecting the souls from defeated enemies (sound familiar?) , if you die at a certain point you'll find the souls hovering in the area you fell like a blue mist ,you then have to whip the mist to release the souls , its a good strategy to keep feeding your collected souls to the shopkeeper when you come across him so as not to lose them indefinately , this game is also very puzzle orientated which leads me to my only slight criticism of the game , some of the puzzles are extremely vague & i realy got stuck on a couple of occasions & had to Google the solution , thats a small criticism though in an otherwise superbly playable game , i'm about at the halfway mark now & loving every minute , my favourite game of the year 9/10 ??

The fact that we have now seen all of the horsemen and woman! In the series is a treat.Fans should just be happy the story of the 4 riders continues, yes its more like the first game with more of a dark souls ish twist.Yes you die then have to trek quite some time.. But consider vulgrims portal as a bonfire.. You return to the last one you visited.. Easily managed and I never found myself having to run too far back to where I was when I failed miserably and died so those saying you start right back at the he beginning of the game clearly haven't found more portals.Overal design is akin to the first game not open works but layered with shortcuts to open.Boss fights are fun and challenging once you learn how to beat them it's satisfying..Sound like another game at all??? Yes darks souls is obviously inspired the new team who have taken on this 3rd installation.Bare in mind this is with a new company who purchased the rights to darksiders when the original creaters went bust so they wanted to try something different. All in all I would say if you like old school exploration games with a challenge you will enjoy this.Or if you just like darksiders..Bring on number 4 it's time for strife to play

I've given 4/5, initially would've given 3/5 but my expectations are probably far higher than what they should be (i.e. the wait between ds2 and ds3). At any rate I should say that the creators deserve to be commended on taking the series in a slightly different direction in terms of it feeling less open world than the other two. There are challenging fights (I've played on hard the first time round), but they are very enjoyable- I get why people say it feels like dark souls- though this game is far more forgiving. However, the amount of lag in certain parts of the game is disappointing- I'm not too fussed about the graphics or 'repetitive gameplay' (I wanted a darksiders experience so I bought the third one- was I expecting pokemon or something?). That is my main criticism of the game- it should not feel this clunky as a PS4 game at the end of the PS4 era. The story and depth of Fury's character may not be everyone's cup of tea- some may want more at the end of the game and others may feel a bit let down by how much 'meat' there is to this game in terms of storytelling. It is a Darksiders game- but it feels brittle. If it was smoother with some more background on fury then perhaps 5/5.

Created with about 1/2 the team size as the previous games Darksiders 3 is a surprise to many after the demise of THQ 5 years ago. Expect solid AA game, not AAA+ plus. This is a welcome return for the series. Bullet points:- Slight technical issues at time of release: FPS issues, pop in, crashes, etc, etc - not unplayable however.- Combat is taking a lot more queues from Dark Souls. Get your dodge times correct or be punished for it!- Boss encounters are solidly designed for Apocalyptic but aren't as sublime as Dark Souls 3 or Bloodborne (the gold standard of boss encounters)- Fury is wonderfully pulpy and the story progresses well with welcome cameo's and teases if you've followed 1 & 2.- Artwork is still Joe Madureira inspired and assests look good in the Unreal4 engine, certain areas look like you're stood in a comic book whilst mowing down enemies.- Return to DS1 upgrading of your weapon compared to MMO style loot system of 2.Tremendous effort as a first game from Gunfire games. Roll on Strife and Darksider 4.

After reading a lot of negative reviews I was dreading playing darksiders 3. Ive got to say im glad i picked it up for me its a return to form I didnt like the direction darksiders 2 took this feels more like the original which is still one of my favourite games.Fury is a great charecter and the gameplay is fun and fluent.I must state ive picked this up post patch and have chosen to use the classic controls. I didnt like the souls style mechanics at all. Maybe this contributed to early negative reviews im not sure. souls style of game play has its place but not in a game of this nature for me personaly. The only reason this game doesnt get five stars is that the graphics are not next gen. That being said there decent enough. Also like a previous reviewer stated the frame rate can drop at times.I would highly recommend this game hoping we get a 4th installment.

Darksiders 1 and 2 seemed longer. This one seemed short and arbitrary. It felt like that they were struggling to add more to the franchise to expand and build on previous instalments. It does feel that they stopped short on this and I do feel that the game engine and programming is not optimised for the PS4. The PS4 pro I have really has to get loud in terms of cooling due to processor load but considering the graphics it is not consistent with the level of demands. The optional DLC was poor and didn't add anything of value to the game. Disappointing for those familiar with Darksiders who were looking for something more substantial.

I would love to give this game 5 stars, but the frame rate drops and loading times stop this from getting them, if you're a dark souls fan, you might find some enjoyment with this game, I personally disliked it at first when I treated it as a darksiders game (which was a mistake) but as soon as I started treating it like a dark souls type of game, I really started to enjoy it, love seeing old characters and I'm definitely liking the new lead character fury, she's an angry lead character that is a lot of fun, pick it up if you're into these types of games, you'll get quite a few hours of gameplay out of it.

While being a casual fan of the first 2 games, I kinda let this one slip by after hearing all the meidocre reviews of it. After not being initially excited about Darksiders 3 going more Dark Souls in its core progression, I was shocked to find myself actually having fun throughout.Great story, atmosphere, combat and exploration kept me entertained till the end of the game. However it is rough in regards to performance (even on a PS4 Pro), as the game likes to drop frames and stutter from area-to-area.Overall, a surprisingly good time - well worth getting on discount for £20!

27.11.2018

Ok, it's not a great game, it's not a AAA title and it's not as good as D1 or D2, but it's not THAT bad. The camera is a bit problematic, it will most likely be patched soon(ish). It isn't as difficult either. I killed the first boss on hard on my 3rd attempt and the first difficulty settings is just easy. If you can't manage on easy maybe find yourself another hobby, like knitting for example. It's going to be less stressful. For now i decided to wait for a few patches before i start playing the game properly. It's not a one star game tho. Peace!

Really enjoyed this game, it’s a bit jarring for fans of the original two games as instead of the Zelda like puzzle platforming hack and slash style of those games this is basically dark souls meets metroidvania which means repetition and technique development, towards the latter part of the game it does open up more with some decent puzzle lite areas and becomes more engaging. It’s a great fun games tho and probably my fav of the three, the art style is superb and the 7 deadly sins are beauitfully realised within the classic darksiders art style.

21.10.2019

Darksiders III improves upon the original, not only with a gritty female lead and it’s beautiful art direction, but with an incredibly massive and connective environment. It contains many hidden areas and no map - which adds a sense of mystery to the exploration. You’ll have to use your head rather than following a coloured dot on a 2-D map here. The combat could be seen as a little basics to some, but to those who like classic action adventure role-playing game with multi weapon combat and a good sense of adventuring, this is the game for you.

Overall all i really liked it the figures are of medium quality. And fairly detailed so can’t complain, also really liked the wall scroll that came with it was a great touch in my opinion. However the box doesn’t come in a protective box just has a plastic wrap over it. And got fairly damaged at the corners of the box but nothing inside was damaged.
