This is a wonderful case with a really good fit and finish. I had to return mine as it just barely didn't fit in my trunk (I was able to get it in once but it was like completing a 5000 piece puzzle). I drive a 2015 Kia Cadenza which has a quite large trunk, I was just unable to get it in the trunk opening confidently. This was also a concern because if you rent a car you may have the same issues and you can't exactly take the clubs out and fold up the case. I would be concerned taking this case on trip with a rental car involved if there is more than two people going because the case may have to go in the back seat.Second issue. The hands and wheels are weak points that are cheaply made and designed to be replaced.Unfortunately the wheels are riveted on so you may have to do some drilling and construction to replace them if they break on you as noted in other reviews. The handles are held on by nylon bolts that can be easily replaced. The one thing I noticed that you may want to check when you get the case is the foam wasn't perfectly pressed down in my case. There was plenty of glue, I just pressed it down and it stuck nicely. I'm just stating this so you don't accidentally goof up the foam when using the first time.I actually really like the latches on this case. They appear to be made of a strong nylon that should probably last for life. The latches work extremely well and give me confidence that they won't pop open.I am going to order the standard case (non deluxe) and I believe that will fit in my car easier. The large hump in the bottom of the case is cumbersome and I don't need the extra space. I value my clubs and it appears SKB has good warranty service.Overall, I highly recommend this case if you value your clubs. It should last a long time and I think it will make flying or even traveling in a car with multiple bags a more worry-free experience. I would have given this case a 4 star rating but the warranty service appears good and the fit and finish is the best in this case category, so 5 stars it is.

Just ordered 4814W Deluxe case. It is different than photo here or on SKB web site (does not have the enlarged lower half). I have a stand bag, so I wanted a case like the SKB 2SKB-4812WS but wanted the TSA heavy locks on the deluxe model, so I ordered the 4814. The case delivered looks like the 4812 (but isn't because it has the TSA locks). So I got exactly what I was really wanting, but not what I ordered. If you are ordering this case because you have a cart bag, it will not fit in this narrower case. The box was labeled 2SKB-4814W, but I really don't know what I got because it is a hybrid of the 4812 and the 4814.2-weeks later -- Travel Update: After one trip involving several airports, the case is in great shape. When packing though, two points: (1) I have the popular Callaway tilt-bottom stand bag, and I could only squeeze one golf shoe into the case. Next time I travel, I'll have to use a smaller carry bag. (2) I have the Callaway ft-i driver, with one inch extension. To fit in the case, I had to remove the driver cover and lay the club alongside the golf bag for it to fit lengthwise. In summary, if you order the case and don't get the enlarged bottom half (as shown in the picture), you're going to have trouble fitting a regular stand bag in the case, and you'll have to pack your shoes with your clothes.

I didn't get this for golf clubs, rather for my large Elinchrom Octabank. Photography cases of this size, by the same manufacture, cost twice as much so I guessed that this would work-- and it has!THINGS I AM WERRY OF:1) Although I've only flown with this once, I am worried that the latches aren'y more recessed. I've had similar cases before and the latches were caught, open and broken off when in transport. I simply uses a strip of gaff tape over each of the latches so that they can't be caught.2) The TSA lock is pretty worthless3) There is no way to attach a padlock and secure this case.THINGS I LOVE:1) It is the PERFECT fit for a74" Elinchrom Octabank in it's bag and the small side of the case is padded and perfectly protects the hardware side of the Octabank. When you spend over $1000 for a light shaper, this is important!2) The bulge side allows room for detached legs for a c-stand; so I can pack a full c-stand (broken down), a soft box and an extra stand as well as my tripod in this case in addition to the Octabank!!!3) It's MUCH easier to pack than the stand-up cases that are usually used for this purpose and I am SO glad I made this purchase!

UPDATE: My wife bought me an awesome new golf bag for my birthday - an OGIO Hybrid (stand/cart). Unfortunately it does not fit in the 2SKB 4814W (the case is not deep enough). She was smart and brought the Travel Case with her when she bought the golf bag and the great folks at Golfsmith exchanged my like-new travel case for the next larger SKB model. Anyway, use caution and make sure your bag fits before buying. The most likely problem will be bag "diameter" vs case depth.Only used three times so far and have yet find anything that merits removing a star! Just as advertised; fits my R15 driver in the bag with length to spare. It's robust and rugged, has high quality latches, lock, hinge, handles, and wheels. Easily accommodates my loaded stand bag plus 3 sets of shorts, shirts and socks, a pair of golf shoes, a pair of Crocs, rain gear, towel, and a jacket. I flew Alaska Airlines on all three trips so maybe it got gentler handling than it would have on other airlines (Alaska does everything else better so why not baggage handling) but I still think its been a fair test. I'll update if I ever have an issue, but for now, 5 stars!

Traveled with a soft case before both on airplanes and in the back of my pick up truck but last time it rained my bag got wet (even though soft bag was waterproof) and began to have mold as I stored it in the garage. So decided I need a hard case to protect the clubs and be waterproof. The SKB is waterproof, already tested in a thunderstorm. I had three disappointments though. Latches can come open if not exactly closed or if there is pressure from inside (eg when golf bag is bulky with stuff) Case does not allow you to roll it in an upright position. You must lean it over which puts weight on your arms. Case is very solid but that also means relatively heavy. Check the weight on the specs.I travel with a carry bag so it is light compared to a cart bag so hopefully it will not be an issue. Airlines can be picky on overall weight when traveling so lighter case would be better. Not sure if you traveled with a fully loaded cart bag and this case if you would exceed weight permitted by airlines. Recommend you check your golf bag with clubs and then add on the weight of this case to see if you are under the check in weight.

great case, clubs made it perfectly to the destination and back home. I used ship sticks to travel with them and I feel like that is the only way to go! The case looks like your Fathers travel case from the 80's, but who cares if your clubs are safe and sound. As far as getting the case into a rental car, put it in the back seat. There are plenty of smaller cars that clubs without a case do not fit into, so don't be surprised when it doesn't fit the way you want it to. It's a minor inconvenience that you can work around, seriously, adjust, adapt and overcome, then go play some G.As far as what fits in it. I have a ping cart bag and it fit in the case just fine. However,in order to make weight on it and keep it in the cheaper ship sticks price range, I had to carry all my golf balls and stuff I normally keep in the bag. for an extra 10 bucks I could have had an extra 10lbs and shipped my shoes and rain gear and accessories all at once. it will all fit, and I might do that next time just to free up some room for luggage.

I bought this case because I had a soft cover case and when traveling on a short flight from California to Arizona, my driver broke at the head. Not that I used it much (slice!), I should have known better because the baggage handlers probably hate these things, but it's no surprise that they don't treat any bag well. So as I was taking another golf trip with my buddies, I wanted something sturdy. This worked well. It fit what I thought was an oversized golf bag and clubs with room to spare, even my new driver (that I still don't use - much). It looks like a snug fit with the bag, but I was also able to put in my towels, all the tools I usually have in the bag, as well as about 4 dozen balls. There's thick padding at the top for the clubs to give them extra protection. The three claps snap shut tight and there's two handles, one at top and one in the middle to hold it well. The wheels are very helpful. It is more expensive that the soft cover ones, but worth the protection.

I got this travel case when my soft sided case from BagBoy was showing some serious wear (after only 3 trips no less...). I figured I would go for the hard sided case because the soft cases always made me nervous, plus SKB makes gun cases, so I was sure they could handle making a simple golf case. I was not disappointed - but I was glad I went with the Deluxe (bigger) model. This case fits everything I need for golf without any issue, my driver jussssst fits in the case. Once the clubs are in there though they aren't going anywhere and it would take some SERIOUS abuse for anything to happen to this case. I love that it has the TSA approved lock so I can lock it up and send it along its way without any issue at all for security.I've used it quite a few times now flying and it barely looks any different than when I took it out of the box. Much unlike the previous travel case I had. Can't recommend this enough.

I have purchased/destroyed 3 soft cases this year. Ranging from the big Samsonite (that never stands upright despite the photos) to the cheaper versions with the hard top and soft bottom. This is the ONLY bag that has held up. I have flown to three different countries and dozens of flights domestically and you would think it's brand new. No issues. A couple of nuanced things, with the new Sun Mountain bags the neck is too wide/tall to fit in this case so I travel with my clubs upside down in the case. It's not an issue at all but something to consider as the latest trend with walking bags is a taller opening that doesn't work with this case. Also,TSA checks this thing EVERY SINGLE TIME...I fly several times a week and rarely get my clothing bag checked but this thing is a TSA magnet so make sure you get an extra copy of your key and don't put anything loose in this case because they will lose it for you.

I have used this a couple times at this point and couldn't be happier with the purchase. Yes, it is bulky and not the easiest thing to travel with, but if you want to take your clubs with, this is just what you have to deal with. Just have to get used to lugging this thing around and you'll be fine. You are much better off with a hard case, airlines won't take responsibility for damage with soft case. The case is very sturdy and secure. Having the TSA lock is a great added bonus. My case has been inspected at small airports, but not large. My clubs and bag fit in very snugly, if you have a large/bulky bag you might need a smaller travel bag. After a few flights my case has a few small scuffs but nothing major at all.If TSA does crack the bag, just bring it to your airline and they might replace it for you. Delta replaced an old hard side bag of mine without any questions asked.

Most fencers who travel to NAC's and international events already know that hard cases are the way to go. What they may not know is that most of the hard cases fencing vendors sell are just SKB bags with a large markup. These bags come with padding and it is very easy to add attachment straps if you chose to do so. The Deluxe case is great for me as a coach, as I can fit a couple masks, my coaching plastron and all my fencing gear in with room to spare. They are tough, durable and they best I have seen, even being superior to more expensive bags. If I had to give them a downside, it would be that they are heavy even when empty, but that's why they have wheels. Best of all, they airlines usually do not charge extra for over sized golfing equipment bags the way they do fencing equipment. As such the case can pay for itself in a couple trips.

I bought this case to replace a soft-case that lasted only 1 trip. I've now used this for 2 trips, and I'm VERY happy with it. It is slightly heavier than the soft case was, but with a set of 12 clubs, umbrella, stand bag, 50 golf balls, cooling towels and a pair of shoes it weighed in at a total of 43 lbs, which was well below the 50 lb max. As mentioned above, this case easily fit everything I needed for a week of golf with no 'stuffing' required. The hinge is well built and sturdy, and the 'buckles' are also made to last, and latch very nicely. After the trip, I've had a careful look at it, and I see no dents or huge scratches, nothing broken, all handles intact. This held up much better than other hard and soft cases I've seen, and I highly recommend it.I also like the fact that this has the TSA lock on the middle buckle.

This is about as sturdy and protective of your precious clubs as they come. Just be sure you’re incredibly fit as this thing can get heavy and cumbersome. With my clubs in a Sun Mountain carry bag, it’s about 40 pounds altogether, but it feels a lot heavier. Also, it will NOT fit in the trunks of many smaller sedans. Even if you have fold down seats, it might be impossible if you have a small sedan and a back seat passenger. I have an Alfa Romeo sedan and we couldn’t take it to the airport unless we left our daughter at home. It did somehow fit in my wife’s Mazda 3 sedan with the seats folded down, but we had to slide it in at an angle, then slide sideways to fit it in.If you don’t have an SUV and you have to drive yourself to the airport or you’re traveling with others, this might not be the ideal carrier.

the case itself weighs a lot, so when your clubs are packed in it, and a pair of shoes, total weight will be approaching 50lbs. mine weighs in at about 45. this thing is sturdy and showed no signs of denting or scratching after a round trip flight from Chicago to San Francisco. good case, but it's still a bit pricey, even at $185, which is what I paid for it. but it will do its job well. the three clasps could be a bit more substantial- like maybe made of anodized aluminum instead of heavy plastic. I also foresee the spring mechanism in the clasps failing at some point down the line. the spring seems a bit on the chintzy side. overall, its much better than the cheap nylon zipper cases that provide little protection.I've had driver shafts broken before, and it seems this won't happen with the SKB hardshell.

The quality of construction, hinges, padded golf club head area and latch / lock system are excellent. There is adequate room for a standard "stand bag" with club length of 46", but there is barely enough room to stuff in a pair of shoes, although with patients and placement, you can pack a pair.A small cart bag might fit, but it would be really tight. An oversize or larger cart bag would not fit unless the pockets were empty. For what I was looking for, this hardside case is ideal and based on the construction quality and hardware used in the construction, it is easy to see why SKB warranties the case for life and backs up their claim with a $1500 club replacement warranty if your clubs getdamaged while being transported.
