If you're installing or removing a Shimano Hollowtech type crank, you need this to tighten/remove the little locking cap piece. It's a bit expensive for what it is, an incredibly basic tool, made of plastic, hand tightened, but you definitely don't want to mess up your crankset by trying to hack it with a screwdriver or something.

This is all you need to remove the "dust cover" inside a Shimano crankset. An expensive tool is unecessary as its not a tight installation. The plastic is quite soft, but finger tight is all thats required.

If you want to preload the bearings on a shimano hollowtech II crank then you'll need one of these. It's only made from plastic but it holds up well enough for occasional use while being cheap.

Worked properly for removing my crank dust cap, but I wish it had a surface for turning with a spanner/wrench in case the dust cap was over-torqued previously. Luckily, mine was not.

Fitting Shimano cranks? You'll need this. Deliberately designed to be used by hand, so you can't over-tighten. It works and it's cheap.
