Getting this device to sync with Polar Flow was a real technical nightmare. If you can't sync with Flow Sync its massively diminishes its usefulness.Took me 3 or 4 hours of troubleshooting - I was close to sending it back. The first issue is that the device I bought from Amazon ( Amazon themselves not a marketplace seller ) in Feb 2016 had its firmware dating from June 2015.Normally this is not a big issue - except I have a Mac computer with El Capitan - and this was only supported by Polar later in 2015.Of course I didn't figure this out at first and spent a lot of time figuring what was wrong!Once I did I switched to my old Windows 7 computer - which is supported. But this failed to pick up the device - after a lot of swearing, changing of settings, re-changing settings, re-booting of computers and device I discover the cause was NDIS Remote Sharing not correctly set up for the device. If you check the Polar v650 FAQs on syncing issues you won't find this solution! I did try calling Polar support but this went to an answer phone message about them being rather busy at the moment! Which given half the Polar website was down at the time was probably not surprising! It took a lot of Googling and eventually I found this:[...]The issue causing my problem was under "Make sure your computer recognizes your V650 correctly"It was "Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device" issue that was stopping the USB connection.Issue fixed - though not after a lot of stress and resisting temptation to smash the v650 in to bits!Firmware updated - I could now use the device on my Mac. If I'd not have had a Windows 7 PC to and I'd have been really stuck! So at last I could use the device - or could I?Tried getting a GPS lock. 10 minutes still no lock. Re-started the device. Waited 15 mins - still no lock. Stood on a hill away from all buildings in the rain trying to get a lock - nope!I could feel my stress levels rising again! I couldn't find a solution on Google at all. Without GPS it was useless for me.Out of desperation I called Polar - their website was working at the time and support did answer my call. They suggested a factory re-set and re-syncing.I tried this and it worked!!!!All this stress is now behind me and its the day after. I've had some chance to use the device and overall its not bad.I compared GPS accuracy by mountain biking for 7 miles over the moors. I wore my Suunto Ambit3 as well as using the Polar v650. Accuracy was fairly good - nowhere near as good as the Suunto Ambit3 but good enough to not be a major issue.I also did some indoor biking with the HRM running. All worked fine - lots of useful data.I did sync my data to MovesCount for the Suunto Ambit3 and FlowSync for the Polar. Both MovesCount and FlowSync are good - but you can tell that Polar are more health/heart rate oriented and Suunto is more GPS ( location, hiking, etc ) based in terms of their company origins.Suunto has better location info. Polar has better heart rate info. But I would be happy to use both.No issues since the first day - the Polar has a much more limited battery life compared to the Suunto Ambit3 - but they are aimed at different markets. The Ambit3 is also more sophisticated in its options and programmability - but the Polar easier to use.If you get past the first day of setting up the sync its a good device and fairly reliable so far.

I have had the Polar v650 for nearly a year now and found it to be a great cost effective bike computer with lots of features. When researching and after reading various negative reviews I was hesitant to purchase but did not want to spend nearly as much as my bike on a bike computer. Overall, I have found it to be a great device.I have used it for over 4000 miles and to navigate in various parts of the UK and France with ease. It has also captured all my training data (heart rate, cadence, speed, ascent, distance etc). This is my first proper bike computer and the feedback really improved my training and performance over the past year allowing me to get some good times on Strava.Initially I had some problems syncing with my Windows 10 PC (via USB)and my Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo (via Bluetooth), however I managed to resolve these. For my PC I had to remove the USB device via device manager a few times before the Polar Flowsync program detected the device. For Android Bluetooth I had to delete the Bluetooth pairing in the Android Bluetooth settings after pairing iniitially for the Polar Flow app to recognise and manage separately.Once I got everything syncing properly (PC and Android phone), I have been really pleased with the device as follows:- Excellent detailed downloadable open street maps for the anywhere in the world.- Create and upload routes on the fly using only your Android phone. Route can be loaded to V650 by using Locus Maps (export TCX route) --> Polar Flow web (import TCX route) --> Polar Flow Android app (sync TCX route to V650) (needs internet connection)- Cadence, speed and gradient by using additional Bontrager Interchange speed and cadence sensor (a great value integrated sensor with replaceable battery)- Great battery life with ability to charge on the go using separate power packs- Large clear, responsive and customisable touch screen display with ability to lock in wet weather- Polar Flow give loads of detailed training information and automatically syncs with Strava, Trainingpeaks and MyFitnessPal- Emergency front LED light- Records speed, cadence, ascent, descent, distance, laps, calories, HR zones,- Power meter compatible (not tested)- Usually significantly cheaper than equivalent Garmin devices- Strava live segmentsKey disadvantages:- No turn notifications when following a route- No route planning on the device, routes need to be planned on PC or Mobile Phone and synced to device- No link to mobile phone to view texts and calls received while riding- Not compatible with ANT+ sensors- Some issues pairing with 4iiii power sensor, however it works if you remove and re-pair the sensor each ride.

I read all the reviews here - quite a few, and in my opinion - some of them relate to earlier iterations of the firmware. The V650 I have bought is fully capable of displaying detailed zoomable maps (openstreetmap.org) down to street level, It can store routes (and import them from MapMyRide and Strava) and gives you turn directions. As a cycle computer it offers every permutation I could want and connectivity with a full range of devices (although currently only via Bluetooth rather than ANT+). The display is a high definition colour version, the touch screen controls work through gloves and the menu system is easy and simple. How does it stack up against the Garmin 1000? Maps are better, the screen is clearer, and turn by turn Navigation? Well it's got the map open in front of you, and will highlight the route and give a direction at junctions too.Downsides? few - I use a Mac and it took a few goes to get the FlowSync software to recognise the machine - it turns out you have to go into the V650's menus and tell it what OS you are using - my goof, but you need to read carefully as you set it up. Once done, it syncs flawlessly. Selecting maps is a doddle - connect, highlight the centre of the 450km x 450km area you want downloaded and then sync. For £143 or £164 with heart rate belt it is a bargain considering the only viable opposition, the Garmin 1000 costs £450. I feel like I have discovered a really well kept secret.

I was after a fairly cheap 'do it all' type of cycle computer and came across the Polar. When I bought it it had no mapping, which it then did after a software update fairly recently. This took it from a solid GPS to a good one, Polar Flow now has the ability to upload routes (which was added only a short while ago) which means you can enter any gpx route into it and save it to your V650 to follow when riding. At present it doesn't do turn by turn but it's been promised and with the rate of updates I don't think it'll be long until we see it.It's got really solid GPS capability, I've been through woods on single track, out on the roads and up and down hill and the GPS has stayed true to the path I was following. It uses Bluetooth accessories to it - so if you're upgrading to a bike computer from a mobile phone as I did you'll be right. If you're coming from a Garmin you'll have some strife as it doesn't take Ant+.The heart rate belt is good, not the most comfortable but then none of them are. The mounting system doesn't feel like it's all that great but after 2 hours around Cannock Chase on the rough stuff it was still on the frame. Would like an out front mount for the road bike but it's not the end of the world.

Love this computer. A tad on the heavy side for any weight weenies out there but I guess there's a load of tech stuffed in and it's no heavier than my mobile phone. The screen size is perfect for my 50+ year old eyes. I like the written analysis you get on screen when you finish your ride, it's very easy to set up even for a tech moron like myself and the battery life is very impressive.I have bought an adjustable front bike mount as I didn't feel the mount supplied fitted my stem too well.My only gripe (hence the 4 stars) is that my Giant tcr integrated cadence sensor connected to the V650 and worked however it prevented the current speed from working. As soon as I unpaired the cadence sensor current speed resumed.I have been in touch with Polar and they say they are looking into it. It'll be fine for indoor training as I can use the cadence (without current speed)when thrashing it out on my turbo on those dark cold winter nights.I recommend this computer if like me the only Garmin affordable had a screen that was way too small. I would have had to pay double the price to get a Garmin I could read the screen without glasses. For me it's a good substitute. A very useful training tool and looks good too.

Thought I would write a review having progressed from the M450 to this unit.plus points-mapping is great, easy to follow a route, reasonably easy to import a gpx file-works fine with heartrate strap and cadence sensor-polar flow software is pretty good, but I mostly use strava (it syncs fine with strava)-good battery life-clear screen and easy to set up your own choice of viewsnegative-have managed to connect to mobile via Bluetooth but its a very poor connection and I have given up on this method and just use the cable to pc method (works fine and charges as well)-extra connectors are either not available or very expensive (same as for garmin units)I mainly use for the stats (srava segments,HR training zones) but it is also very useful to follow a route. Create or download a gpx route add it to the v650 via pc and its there to follow. Its great if you are riding with guys that have already decided a route, means you can easily take a turn leading and you wont get lost. You could free ride without routes and then refer to the map during the ride to get your bearingsAll things considered an excellent cycle gps unit at much lower cost than the garmin, I am very happy to give this 5stars

Originally I used Polar's H7 heart rate strap and 'Polar Beats' on the Android. This gave me some good information after my ride. Later I decided I wanted some mapping so I bought the cheapest I could find, a Garmin 200. This wasn't really that capable for the money. When I spotted the Polar V650 I was surprised that I had managed so long without it.When you buy the V650 you should give it a firmware update, which is trivial. Once you do the update the mapping will be better. It works pretty much out of the box sensor-wise and GPS is locked almost immediately. The screen is very readable in bright conditions as well as dim.I've left it on by mistake for over eight hours, the battery still had a few hours left.Charge time takes less than my phone. The device is very stable, I've never had it lock up on me. The heart-rate zone display is very helpful, I can see how effective my exercise is, or just which sort of training is desired that day.I would definitely buy it again.

Great product. A good product became great after updating the firmware. Free integrated maps, best maps downloading solution and much better power information than Garmin Edge. Garmin Edge 1000 has street guiding and Strava integration, but at a much higher price. Unfortunately, you still need to sync the product with your computer. Screen resolution is between Garmin edge 810 and edge 1000. Polar have stated that they will upgrade street guiding and Strava integration, but this does not work yet. If you do not need integration with current ant+ sensors, this product is the best value. I have both polar v650 and Garmin edge 1000.

As the owner of a Polar m400 watch and a keen cyclist,I took the plunge and bought a V650 cycling computer, it did what it said on the box, not as as compact as the Garmin equivalents. Polar ahave added more features, the Strava integration which most people have asked for has now arrived. I find the mapping more than sufficient for my needs. I can set the screen to see up to 8 different bits of information. I prefer the larger screen as it makes for easier reading. I look forward to what else Polar have in store.Email support with Polar has been excellent on some queries.

I'm really happy with my 650. Compared to trying to use the Phone and a cateye display, it just works perfectly. 3rd party cadence sensor connects instantly, very handy maps, different and customisable settings and screens for interval training, longer trips. Upload generally works fine and instant sync to Strava. Great battery life, nice design. Problems? Screen a bit dim in bright sun, mobile app upload flaky.

Excellent cycle comp , lovely clear screen. Deserves 5 stars but I feel it just lacks a bit on the software front compared to garmin units. Hopefully that will improve with software\firmware updates. In particular wireless conectivity for uploads to comp & strava.

Love my polar computer. Use it all the time on my rides. Easy to use and set up. Have to be careful with the heart rate monitor and clean it regularly otherwise it can start giving odd readings. Found it only connects to a laptop/computer that has windows 10.

Fajny koputerek ale często ma problem z połączeniem z PC. Dodatkowo czujniki po wyczerpaniu baterii są do wyrzucenia. A cool dome but often has a problem with the PC connection. In addition, the sensors can be thrown away after the battery has been exhausted.
