As per the other comment. The tool is supposedly 36mm and it is also stamped as such. Measuring with verniers gives 36.65mm whereas the fixed cup is 36.12mm so it is slightly loose and this shows when fitted. Of course my measurements will be subject to errors, I have been careful, but the difference is apparent. It is probably the case that they cannot manufacture this to tighter tolerances or perhaps would not wish to. As you will know the fixed cup is torqued quite highly and does not have much of a lip. You do not use an 'ordinary' spanner on this or try it with an adjustable, cough. Plus Gas is recommend. Make sure the tool is properly on the 'nut' and keep it in place with firm palm pressure then hit the handle with a hammer, repeated firm taps... clockwise on a UK Raleigh. You might have to be a bit of an animal but make sure you are hitting the handle rather than the opposite tool end... I'm just doing this on one that has been in a bike for 28 years and may have spent the last 10 sitting outside.... Grunt..... Grunt...Bang...Bang....Bang. Success. The handle does not appear to have suffered but the working end does show slight signs of wear. The cup appears to have been lubricated with lard and rust whilst the thread has rust dissolved in Plus Gas. OK the tool has worn slightly but that cup wasn't going to come off without it. Thumbs Up. Buy this, don't try it with anything lesser.

This spanner is one of those bike tools that you simply must get if you do regular bike maintenance, every try getting the flat side of an old school cup and cone bottom bracket out without one of these? They are always invariably rusted in and are very hard to remove, I always like to change cup and cone sets for sealed bottom brackets where ever possibel, this tool makes it so much easier.I use lots of plus gas to loosen the cone, a top tip it fit the spanner over the outside of the cup, put a bolt trhough the bottom bracket and the centre of the spanner and put a bit of flat plate over the back of the spanner and nip it up,this will help stop the spanner from slipping off as some of these can be so tight. If you have a bench vice you might be able to remove the cones without this spanner but if you damage the flats it will be very hard to get out and you also run the risk of damaging the frame, this is one of those spanners you should just get as you are going to need it again at some point.

Needed to replace my bottom bracket and after removing cranks with tools included in the Aldi bikemate toolkit realised I needed additional tools to A) remove the fixed cup and B) remove the adjustable cup. The fixed cup had a chamfered profile which required a similarly profiled wrench. This park tool appeared to match he profile but a number of comments/review cast some doubt in terms of specific dimension. the tool also has the pins which should deal with the adjustable cup. In short, the wrench end did the job and with a few tops from a mallet I had the fixed cup out. The pin end didn't appear to match my adjustable cup (spaced too wide) but, fortunately, this cup was relative loose and unscrewed by hand.Bottom line, his tool helped me sort out my bottom bracket and now my bike runs great with a replacement.

The Park Tool HCW-4 Y bottom bracket tool got the job done and a stuck bottombracket removed. Had tried other tool I already had in my tool box without success, so basically it does what i says on the tin.The tool was a little loose and would have felt better if it was closer to the size of the nut -less chance of it slipping and the handle could have been a bit longer to provide better leverage.Only used it once but appears as if it should last well and despite being a little large shows no real sign of wear from its first outing.I like the fact that the pins are replacable.Got the job done - whayt more is there to say

When removing a bottom bracket cup from my 1993 GT bike a simple twist was too weak to get the cup moving and the cup wouldn't budge with this tool. I reached for the hammer and gave it some big blows and the wrench held up to the job and got the cup moving without bending or breaking - just take the pins out first or they can turn and full out from the hammer blows. Luckily I had already researched online and found out that the chain side has a reverse thread i.e., clockwise loosens and anti clockwise tightens. So I was patting myself on the back for finding out this knowledge first.

Faced with a well stuck Raleigh bottom bracket that need to be replaced, this tool did the job with no problem. Took a little gentle whacking with a hammer while carefully holding the tool over the right hand bottom bracket, and of course turning it CLOCKWISE.Bike is now working again, having replaced the traditional bottom bracket with a cassette one.

The tool has a really impressive weight and balance, looks good and has a quality finish. Accurate fit to the bike parts that it's designed for.

It’s long body aids leverage when trying to undo seized BB, but as it’s quite thin well worth using a bearing press to hold spanner in place.

Did the job without bother on very tight bb fixed cup, helped by few taps with a wooden mallet. Much better than an adjustable wrench.

I'm glad the tool worked, not happy with the price. Could've sent via letter parcel, rather than in a box, it really isn't that big

I had a seized bottom bracket which required a large mallet to knock it loose. This held up to the task without any issues
