I already own a set of (second hand – at least 20 year old) Leitz 10x25 compact Trinovid BAK type binoculars, which travel with us every holiday. They still function perfectly for wildlife spotting particularly for those who do/do not wear glasses. As we are visiting Antarctica next year by cruise ship and, as usual, space / weight are at a premium when flying, rather than taking my 8 x 42 Vickers Alderblicks (which are excellent but somewhat bulky / heavy), I invested in a set of these Trailfinders for myself (or the wife).Going for the 25mm rather than the 42mm objective size may compromise poor light vision but the Leica pair have faired pretty well to date.,Opticron has a quality reputation (and these were being offered at a good price) so I decided to take a punt on them. Given an available deal ,I selected the black rather than the green pair.Out of the box – you get1) a solid set of binoculars with rubber covers (attached) for the objective glasses, rotating eyepiece tubes (down for glasses wearers) out for normal eyes. All easy action, although the objective covers may be a pain in use. There is an individual eye correction adjustment on the right hand objective – some what stiff but OK . Main focus is via a knurled ring at the back of the binoculars2) A neat rubberized pouch (closed by Velcro)– with belt loop3) A carrying strap4) A lens cloth5) Instruction and details for (5 year) guarantee registrationFirst testing in and around the garden vs the Leica pairSize / weight – Although slightly less compact than the old Leica pair they are still neat and relatively lightweightEase of use (with and without glasses) – The default position of the rotating eye piece surrounds is “down” for glasses users – easy to rotate to the out position for non-glasses users. I wear glasses and found the binoculars very easy to useEase of focus – via rear knurled ring – easy to achieve a sharp focus and you can see clearly the limited field depth/fineness of focus which brings out the object being focussed on – at least as good as the TrinovidsSharpness of focus – both units performed brilliantlyMagnification – Unless you have very steady hands, 10X is as much as you will hold comfortably for any length of time – but they are good for distance viewing of shores for ships. My classic birdwatching bins are 8 x 42 mm and my heavyweight astronomical binos (16 x 70) go on a tripodBrightness of image – Going for an objective size of 25mm does reduce the low light level performance – these were at least as good as the Leica’s (which are good) ,Sharp , bright image in daytime for both unitsClosest focus – The trailfinders nearest focus is 6ft – slightly better than my old Leica’sPoor light test (night / dusk) – this is where you really need objectives of 42/50/60mm for their light gathering capacity. I tested these at ca 4pm UK November conditions - dim light and drizzle .Although you wold be pushed to identify similar birds under these conditions, the Opticron unit performed as well ( for my eyes) as the Leica. Obviously going to 8x42 binoculars was better and brighter.NOTE – the wife (who used to sell cameras and binoculars), also carried out similar tests and was reasonably impressed by the resultsCriticisms – minor – the lens protectors on the Opticron are physically attached and have to be held down in use so as not to obstruct the view. The Leica units either did not have (or have lost) any objective protectors. So far (20+ years) no damage to the lenses. The Leica unit cost £175 S/H 20yrs ago so the current Trailfinder unit is a snip at current Amazon prices. The lanyard / strap was somewhat difficult to put on for some reason but finally gave a sensible hanging position around the neck. It then makes fitting in the carrying pouch somewhat difficult ( if the strap is to be included IN the pouch). In fact put in the binoculars and keep the carrying strap outside is bestOverview – despite some problems with the lanyard strap, for the price / quality, I am going to award an initial 5 stars and will review the performance of both units again after visiting the Antarctic. Most of our views are likely to be from the ship (not shore) so the 10x magnification will be key.

This is probably the best I have ever come across in the price range below the top shots. Thus, there is a clear fine and bright view. A very smooth focus, and a surprisingly close focus as well. So much better than the Adventurer offered from the same company. And if one needs to wear glasses while using binoculars, one still gets pretty much the full field of view here. The only limitation I can see comes for those with a narrow setting of their eyes. In that case, the two tubes may not fold together sufficiently. So in case of doubt, it would be good to try before you buy. Otherwise just go ahead and you certainly won't regret it. Whether green or black, it is the same fine model.

Bought these for my parents for Christmas having read lots of good reviews. They're heavier than I was expecting but when I actually weighed them they were slightly lighter than the pair I've been using for the last 35 years, they probably just felt heavier because they're a bit more compact. I've always loved my binoculars and they've given me years of good birdwatching service. However I'm now suffering binocular envy. Not only do these have better magnification but they also give such a lovely bright crisp image. I'm certainly no binocular expert - but these are much better than mine!

These are excellent binoculars for their price and are perfectly adequate for bird watching, looking at scenery or as an introduction to astronomy. I just wish they did not have the swivel eyepieces for those who use glasses. It strikes me that it would be easier and cheaper for them to manufacture them without the twistable eyepieces (one of which came off on a previous pair of binoculars I had making them useless) but to have a specialist product for the few people who do use binocular's with glasses. Most people I know take their glasses off if they have to have them.

These are excellent quality and very good value for money. They are light and compact. The individual correction for the right eye is separate from the eyepiece and is firm enough to prevent it being accidently moved as so often happens with budget binoculars. They also have removable caps attached to the rubber casing for protecting the bottom lenses. I would recommend these binoculars as they have good waterproofing as well. The field of view is not so large but to get that you have to go up considerably in price. An excellent product all round.

Good for short range I have used for bat identification in caves and I was impressed by the good and bright view! I did some bird identification also day time cloudy weather and I could get good and detailed view from about 50m. Maybe good to point I do not wear glasses. But the binoculars do have some adjustments for who wears. It did work for me. Small easy to carry and strongly built. For shaky hands better to get a bigger one.

I have used Opticron before. Twelve years ago bought a pair, same magnification but twice the price. These Trailfinders are optically the equal to those. Just show how optics have improved over the years.Perfectly adequate for birding. They have a very short focal length so you can get a close-up view of butterflies etc at only 4 feet away. So, very good value and delivered within 48 hours.

I already have a pair of Opticron Aspheric compacts and was more than happy to buy this pair of Trailfinders. Although the price was lower, the quality was not. They at optically as good as my other pair, easy to use and convenient to keep in the car. As with all Opticron products they are sturdily constructed and presented in a robust storage pouch. I am more than happy to recommend them.

I wanted a smaller pair because my bridge camera is of a size that I can't have a large pair of binoculars around my neck too (plus the camera lens is as effectively a usable electronic monocular as well) so these fit into a coat pocket etc nicely. The only drawbacks are that the carry case belt loop has broken quite easily and I have to twist the lenses out each time that I use them.

Bought a pair recently as a light weight, second pair of binoculars. And they function very well as that: small enough to fit in a pocket or bag; decent light gathering for the magnification; focus down close enough for use watching insects; water-proof and rubber-armoured; very easy to use, with none of the issues a couple of other reviewers seem to have had.Cannot fault them.

I brought these for use in birdwatching (both from the house and when out hill walking) and for route finding in the Yorkshire Dales (even with maps it is helpful to know if there is a stile/gate at the next wall. For both functions it performs perfectly, though a dedicated twitcher would probably want something better for distinguishing a mallard from a moorhen at 500 metres.

Was given these for Christmas and am very impressed. They were rated highly in various online reviews I'd read and I am not disappointed. Very good magnification, compact and lightweight - excellent for carrying on everyday walks just incase. The only slight disappointment is the strap which is rather thin and cheap - unnecessarily so - but that is easily sorted.

I needed some decent binoculars for putting in pocket and having larger opticron ones already knew they would be good,And they didn’t disappoint well made and quality lenses. the only thing that was slightly disappointed with is that they didn’t fold up as tight as some that I’ve had in the past but overall was very pleased with my purchaseDaveB Derbyshire

For the money these are good binoculars. Great quick focusing. I've had opticron optics before and found these match them for build quality. Clearly the optics are no match for binoculars worth more money but for the price they are superior compared to many low price binoculars.

Fab intro binos for an amateur. Good optics and colour transmission.Only drawback for some may be the weight . . .try holding an equivalent weight to see if OK for you.Lens covers broke after a coup,e of uses.
