This is good value for a proper UV torch that's also amazingly small, lightweight and rechargeable. The only downside is that the battery only provides around 1 hour of light. From some comments posted here and elsewhere, it's clear some buyers don't understand what UV is: Ultra-Violet 'light' is beyond ('ultra' in Latin) that part of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum that is visible to the human eye. However, the UV produced by a UV LED isn't just at a single quoted wavelength (in nanometres), it includes a range of wavelengths (a bell curve) centred on the quoted wavelength. Most of the UV from this torch is well into the invisible spectrum but a small quantity part is in the visible range - for safety!NEVER shine a UV torch into EYES - human or animal. It may not seem bright, but can in fact easily be strong enough to do serious, permanent, damage. The UV output isn't quoted. I did a test to compare the UV version with a white light Tube. in a large dark room, the (invisible) UV output is pretty impressive - a piece of white paper 20+ feet away shows up more brightly under UV than the white light. The UV output is centred around 365nm (proper UV rather than the 395nm-centred near-UV of most 'UV' torches) with most of the output in the invisible range and a small amount of visible violet light. No device is able to check bank-notes in bright light (especially daylight) - the extra light from fluorescence is completely swamped by the ambient light making any marks invisible; this is why counter-top UV note-checkers have a hood over the note. It's NOT so the customer can't see what's going on, it's to make the marks visible. On this bright sunny day, I've just tested my UV Tube on a new £10 note - if I shade the top of the note with one hand while holding the torch's UV LED 2-3 inches away the marks show up clearly; indoors with a normal level of lighting, the fluorescent 5 shows up clearly - see photo - I was holding the camera with my right hand and the torch beside it with my left.
