This reel is very smooth, both drags work very well, I've not put them to use yet but I'm expecting good things from them, they look and feel well made. The 4000 is about as small as you would want to go for a carp reel but would be perfect on a stalking rod or for some of today's shorter rods, they would also make awesome barbel or pike reels.

Superb silky smooth Mitchell reel that feels top quality as soon as you pick it up . The 4000 version i bought makes a fantastic barbel reel and gives great confidence of landing that biggie if it should appear . All in all a superb reel thatll give any shimano a run for its money in every way . Highly recommended !

very small, more like a 30 size reel, would be good as a small feeder or float rod reel though, well built as usual from mitchell.
