My Daughter (28mo) immediately got on this (in tricycle mode) and rode it around the house. She truly loves it.The next morning she fell a couple of times and brought it to me and said (with a sad pouty lip) 'Daddy, it's broken! The steering mechanism started to 'stick' when turning left. It took considerable effort to turn it that way, it would 'click' and then move freely.I emailed Chillafish customer support and they responded promptly. I was told that this problem was usually due to a slightly mis-aligned sonic weld in the plastic and could be easily corrected with a razor knife or sand paper (I had figured as much but wanted to not void my warranty). Indeed, after about 15 minutes,at their suggestion (and offer of more help should it not work) the problem was corrected.FYI, The problem only showed up in the morning before the heat came on, once the house (and the tricycle) had warmed up the original 'catch' was not noticeable.I highly recommend this item and wish I had bought one when my daughter was younger.I am a highly skilled woodworker but I think that the 'fix' could be done by anyone fairly easily. (and probably shows up on only a small percentage of the units)Customer support was good. Also, My daughter loves the hiding place in the seat.I would have given this item 5 stars overall if it had not had the (small) defect (or if customer service had offered me something like a bell for the handle bars or small toy (tiny bike?) for the compartment in consideration for my time and effort)./Richard

I almost didn't buy this because of the reviews that said it was too small for a taller 2 year old. My 2.5 year old is about 37 inches (fairly tall for age - about 70th percentile), and this bike is GREAT for him. He can sit on the seat and reach the floor easily with his knees bent at about a 90 degree angle. I think this makes it easier for him to learn, as he can feel secure and it's easy for him to get one & off on his own. We are currently using the trike mode, so the seat is at its lowest position, and will go higher when in the bike mode. As soon as I took this out of the box, my son started riding it all around the house. It can stand on its own in the trike mode, but it CAN tip,so they are learning some balance skills even in the trike mode....it's more challenging than his riding toy (a Fisher Price dog) from balance perspective, and steers much more effectively (so it's teaching steering skills for a bike also). We are currently using it inside the house, but could be used indoor or outdoor. It doesn't take up a ton of floor space, which is nice. If your 2 y/o is advanced with motor skills, this may be too easy for them, but I know my son is not ready for a real balance bike yet and would be scared after tipping it once and not want to try it anymore. This is perfect for now, and a good precursor for a regular balance bike.

We bought this bike and gave it to our son's daughter on her second birthday. This was her first bike or vehicle of any kind and we were excited to see how she would manage. I set the bike up as a three-wheeler. As with most kids on their first bike, it was easier to start out going backwards but with a little coaxing, we soon had her slowly moving forwards. While the wheels aren't as far apart as a normal three-wheeler, there is enough to challenge her balance. We kept her on the sidewalk, and though she experienced a few wobbles, she kept her balance and only had a "soft" and slow tumble one time. It was good to see her able to keep her balance most of the time and to successfully beat the wobbles,as the purpose was to give her a bike that would increase her skills.I can see the bike getting a lot of use over the next year, and I believe we will be able to switch to the two-wheel mode before the end of the summer (it's June now). This is a great learning tool for kids to practice keeping their balance and get them ready to move on to the real thing.

When I first received this bike the little door in the seat was extremely difficult to open. Basically us adults had to break it open and now it works just fine. The description states that the seat height is adjustable... which it kind of is... one height for when on trike mode and one height for when on balance mode. I have multiple testers at my house of different ages. My one year old loves to walk around on this one in trike mode and it actually requires balance even then so it is so great for him.... not as sturdy as a walker... but I really like it for him to push around than a push walker toy. My two year old loves pushing around the house in the trike mode but feels so betrayed if I switch it over to balance mode.I read other reviewers saying their two year old's were zooming around the house with it set up for balance after two weeks... not my kid after six weeks. For my two year old the seat is a little low when he is one it when it is set up for the trike.

Oh my gosh this thing is such a hit! I had gotten my (18 month old at the time) daughter the bmxie bike since she was always trying to climb on and ride her big siblings bikes. She was just a tiny bit too small for it so I got this and I am so glad I did! We keep it in the house and she is constantly riding on it- with her helmet of course :) She is just now tall enough for the bmxie and I do think this helped her get ready for a balance bike as she got right on the bmxie and got going. I don't think we will stop using this in the house for a while as it is still a favorite around here- even with her 5 and 9 year old brothers who occasionally steal a ride.

Great size for my 20 month old! He burns up the road on this bike! Regardless of what others said, when in tricycle mode this bike does NOT tip easy. However, if your child has no balance or coordination then there is probably no safe bicycle. This thing is super sturdy, and has rubber wheels. It can take a beating from a power wheels jeep and keep on moving. My boys ride it inside and outside. My three year old loves to ride this bike too when he's not on his Strider. This is an awesome starter balance bike! We've had it for over a month, and with the miles racking up on it, we still don't have a single complaint.

This is a great little tricycle. Kid is 20 months old and adores it. He's about 33 inches tall, and the trike side of the bike is a touch short on him, but he doesn't mind. He scoots along just fine, indoors and out. We will switch it over to the other side soon. I wish the seat was adjustable in height, but it isn't. Oh well. Seems very sturdy, and switching it from trike to bike is easy. Only complaint is that the little compartment in the seat is actually quite tricky to open. Needs an adult! If your kid is really tall then they will outgrow this pretty quick, but mine is 60% for height and he's just fine.

I bought this before my daughter turned 2, and a year and a half later she still loves it. It's incredibly well built (I have ridden it for comic effect.) Neighborhood kids up to age 9 have come over and all love riding the bike because it's capable of being quite fast. The seat compartment has housed many toddler accessories like rocks, golf balls, and bagels with cream cheese.Just beware that it does seem comically small. I bought it based on the review calling it a bike for Elves since kiddo was 3rd-percentile small. She is far from done with this bike and it's worth every penny.

This bike is just amazing. We gave this to our daughter on second birthday. I think it would have been better to get it for her earlier because she's really tall and it makes it a little less easy for her to keep her feet up as she's balancing. She loves it though, and it's really easy for her to maneuver and scoot about. It's even light enough for her to tote around and has a tiny storage compartment where she can keep a few items. Great for indoor play, great for outdoor play. It's very versatile as a two- or three-wheel bike, lightweight and just a brilliant toy for toddlers.

This is the cutest but tiniest balance bike I've ever seen! My 21 month old son loves it. Great price, delivered on time, and he enjoys using it inside since it's too cold to be outside right now. It is pretty small, so he seems to tower over it a bit, but it doesn't affect the function. He is able to ride without issue; it just looks a little funny.I am not sure he will be able to use it up to his third birthday, simply because it's so small, but he will get plenty of use out of it. I would definitely buy this again and will probably buy some as gifts.

My little guy under two loves this bike and rides it very well. The first step with a bit wider wheel is just enough stability and having to balance for him. He immediately was able to ride and figure out turning for both forward's and backwards. It does work better on smooth surfaces like concrete but he does ride it on our dirt road as well. It is August now and my guy will turn two in October. What a perfect balancing bike start for a little one. I'm glad we invested in this purchase. Balance bikes are such a great idea to get them riding young.

This bike is simply awesome, down to the box it comes in (LOVED the 5 commandments). I bought this for my son's first birthday, but my 2 1/2 year old has commandeered it. I had actually bought him a Radio Flyer balance bike that I thought would be more his size, but he's only interested in the chillafish. My 1 year old likes to sit on it and put his hands on the handlebars. He'll get there, especially watching his older brother zoom around on it, but for now we just help scoot him along. This is a great product for a great price!

I chose this one after reading the reviews and I'm so glad I did it is fantastic.. he's gone from whizzing around the house on a ride on to now this. It's small and light enough for him to ride on his own and I'm confident we'll be converting it into a balance bike in no time. Was originally looking at balanace bikes for my little boy but they all seemed too heavy and tall for him so I imagined me buying him one but it not getting any use for at least 6 months. So glad I chose this instead.. He absolutely loves it.

Really cute, bought for our daughter’s first birthday. She picked it up quickly (she watches her 4 year old brother ride his bike) and loves scooting around on it. It does tip over quite easily, though. If the back two wheel were just a little farther apart, it would increase stability. She is now nearly 14 months old and has improved her own balance and tips over much less frequently, so with practice, things get better. But I still think more stability would make this a better product.

Everyone asks us about this and my 18 month old LOVES it. It is a perfect great size for her (she is about 2 feet 6 inches tall), but she has short legs. A friend of ours has a two year old who still liked it a lot but she was taller and it seemed like she would probably be too big for it before she was ready to have it go into balance bike mode. With that being said, even my 3 year old tries to ride it and still likes it even though she is WAY too big for it.
