First off, the Buck 120 is a BIG KNIFE. I chose this knife for it's quality, functionality, affordability, and beauty all rolled into one. It will be the gift of choice for my 6 groomsmen in May and I will be having it engraved with their initials and the date of the wedding. It really seems like a piece of artwork and is quite stunning. The sheath it comes with pairs very well with the knife. The quality of the leather (although I've heard it is made in Mexico) is equally as gorgeous as the knife and definitely up to the task of protecting the fine instrument contained within. The knife itself is weighty, firm, and feels trustworthy. I have absolutely no doubt that it will serve it's purpose well for all the hunting, fishing, and outdoor endeavors it will face. The knife comes in the original "Buck Knives Est. 1902" packaging, with the Forever Warranty card which is awesome. It's nice to see that American-made quality comes alive in the form of this masterpiece and that for over 110 years this company has been pumping out good stuff. Right out of the box this baby is surgically sharp and I had no need to touch it up. I tested it on phone book paper and also shaved hair off of my forearm with it (no injuries of course) and it performed very well.I will say that for everyday use this knife may even be too large, however for a momentous occasion like a wedding it certainly does the trick and will definitely impress anyone who lays eyes on it. If you are looking for a display-grade piece of cutlery, look no further. I'm even considering getting another one for my father for his birthday or next big occasion.Ultimately the plan is to go on a backpacking or long-weekend camping trip with all the guys in my wedding party. We might even appear to be an unruly, rad tad bunch in the Adirondack mountains of NYS if we are all seen wielding these mini swords, but fear not...We're a friendly pack so if you happen to see us say Hello!Overall, I am very, very satisfied with my purchase and I hope you choose to support this amazing company and keep it going for another 100+ years. I'm excited to see the look on my groomsmen's faces when they see the stunning nature of this blade. It should make for some awesome pictures and memories.

Buy this knife with confidence; at the price it's among the best deals going in a hunting knife. A few observations for your benefit:-The knife has full tang construction, extending well into the pommel, to which it's secured by a 3/16" brass pin that goes completely through the pommel.-The grind on my example was perfectly symmetrical, with a sharp edge that finished to razor-keen, all the way to the tip, with just a couple minutes work with my Crock Stiks-workmanship on the handle and blade fit was perfect, with no gaps, blushes or raised junctions.-The knife is reported to be made from 420HC, which is a cheaper stainless common on lower-priced knives, but this formulation has a small percentage of vanadium added for edge retention. This is lacking on cheaper versions of this alloy. A plus for 420HC is its outstanding corrosion resistance. This is the same steel used for the US Navy Seal knife, so it's not really a knock on it's use here.-The handle is large - if you have large hands, you'll probably be well pleased with this feature. My hands are medium, but the knife is still comfortable and stable for me to hold, even with 1/2" clear to the pommel-The sheath is well made of heavy cowhide, with a plastic liner that lets the knife slip in without seizing up on the leather. On my sheath, the rivet holding the handle flap to the belt loop was well recessed, but the back side of the snap does touch the inside of the handle when closed. You might want to glue a patch of chamois to this, to prevent scratching. To me,the knife shows evidence of being jig ground on production machinery (hence the transverse grind pattern on the hollow part of the blade, and the un-polished blood groove). However, the finished product shows every sign of good execution, design and quality control. And the knife is a real stunner - from that standpoint it's among the best in my collection which includes a number of custom knives. Finally, I have a good friend that bought the 120 (shorter blade) version of this knife and has processed at least 10-12 deer with it over the past 20 years. He loves it, especially because the blade is heavy enough to split the pelvic bone, and wouldn't use anything else. I'm glad I finally got my own!

I've owned a couple used and inherited Buck knives. I was looking for a practical tool, as I ride around in my jeep topless (if only) and odorless; given this way of commuting, the fact that I live about 3 miles from office and the constant need to carry everything I carry all the time since my DD couldn't be more vulnerable to getting knocked over--more in that happening in the future--I just wanted a solid blade purely for utility. This thing is perfectly fine for utility, but I'm in utter awe of its quality, sharpness--I've been militantly loyal to Benchmade (still am) but this knife... hell, buy it. It's so sharp and consistent you could shave with it--something I DO NOT recommend--and truly beautiful; a Benchmade represents a knife along the best, but you wouldn't necessarily admire its aesthetics, though I think they look great given the sheer power you have in your hand; this knife, imo, gives the same... trust that a Benchmade does, but at a great price.Also. If you're at all like me and touch the surfaces for sharpness, do as you please but, for me. My standard "graze the blade" procedure drew blood: that's how fouling sharp this thing is.So, ultimately, it's an incredibly pragmatic tool, but, difficulty too beautiful to imaging a use case other than the end days... which are highly unlikely (probabilisticaly--and I'm, full disclosure, Roman Catholic and do ponder the inevitable end both in a Bible thumping sense--I'm no thumper; I'm an engineer--) ... who cares... my expectation was a disastrous of value v. quality. This thing rules and you should buy it if you're in the market for a fixed-blade knife--I'm a gun guy in general, but I know a nice blade when I see it--click buy now, as I did and immediately had pre- buyers remorse, but after unboxing... if you're reading this, just buy it and love it; I thought I'd regret the purchase, but thus Buck goes up to, and runs at, eleven.Btw, I've had no luck EDCing this. Perhaps the only downside, but not a reason not to snag one.

Everyone that see's this knife instantly comments with something like WOW, Man O Man or Now That's a Knife !And for good reason, Buck did a fantastic job on build quality & gave the General 120 plenty of eye appeal. The gorgeous Cocobola Dymondwood grip sandwiched between the highly polished brass pommel & guard is enough to make any knife enthusiast eye's bug out ... add a massive 420HC blade to the scenario will surely make the price easily justifiable in anyone's eye.The leather sheath is very well done too. Buck has placed an internal removable nylon guide of sorts to help the blade glide into place .. or come out easy & I'm sure it will help this sheath live a long life. The leather smells wonderful & is a nice chocolate brown color, well sewn & much thicker than previous 120 sheaths. The only thing I did to alter mine was to place a short strip of clear tape over the flat backside of the snap's rivet for a "just in case" it could rub or scratch the nice wood finish over time. I'm sure that Buck could find a way to recess the rivet into the leather enough that this wouldn't happen ... who knows, it may not even be a problem but with a knife that was built for beauty & service I'm not taking any chances & that little piece of tape can't even be seen when the knife is secured. This is simply the coolest knife I've ever owned, it has great eye appeal & build quality that is 2nd. to none with Bucks forever warranty. One of my kids & probably a grand kid will eventually own this knife.Buy it before it disappears.

I have owned Buck knives for many years. My first Buck was a "Skinner" purchased in 1976; and still have it with me today.I purchased this Model 120 "General" to have a "Bowie" style knife on hand. The first thing I noticed when the knife arrived is that the sheath is beautifully made and holds the knife perfectly. When viewing the sheathed knife I was impressed; it looked like this was going to be a "hit out of the park".Once I removed the knife from the sheath and inspected the blade I was slightly less impressed.Don't get me wrong; This is a NICE knife. The blade has a brushed finish which is fine, I was just expecting that top and hilt was satin or perhaps polished. The overall look and detail is quite good, however there are a couple of minor discolorations in the metal. The Cocobolo handle is excellent, and the integration with the guard and hilt are perfect. Some others have claimed that this knife is "razor sharp"; I would not agree with that observation. This is definitely a very sharp knife, however, I own many knives, and also two Samurai swords. Some of my other knives are so sharp that if you handle them with anything but the highest respect you will find yourself going to the hospital (in big trouble).Although this knife is not quite the perfection I was hoping for, I DO Recommend this Buck knife as it is a good value and does offer the kind of quality that places it among the Higher Quality knives out there.

This knife is nicely crafted; not a "hair out of place," except for what it shaves off. Straight from the box, this Buck knife was ready for a light touch-up with a black hard Arkansas stone; it easily shaved arm hair before anything was done to it. I have the one in 420HC stainless, not 5160 carbon steel. Although I like carbon steel for knives in general, this stainless version takes a seriously sharp edge, enough that I become tempted even to strop it and finish the razor sharpness that its qualities suggest. It takes a very nice edge, even as it nicely balances hardness and toughness that suit it for use as a hunting knife rather than as a scalpel (which would be more brittle).I have had very few knives in my life that so readily become this sharp, and seem willing to stay there. As others have noted, the Buck 120 General knife is quite similar in size to the full-sized Ka-Bar Marine Corps knife, with the Buck having a slightly thicker, slightly narrower, and slightly longer blade.Kudos to Buck Knives for their high integrity and devotion to excellence. To their credit, they acknowledge God as the one that guides them to good purpose and achievement, making their success possible. They generously and kindly invite their customers into relationship with their enterprise and also with God. It is nice to see a manufacturer that expresses care for people as well as for the satisfied purchase of their product.

Bought this for the knife, but really expected a quality sheath to come with it for the price. Decently balanced, about 1/2" behind the finger guard. Knife has a good feel to it and I'm sure it will last a long time. The sheath on the other hand - it's got to go. When I get time, I'll make a sheath that's proper for this blade. Here's my take on it - It's a stamped out "cover" for this knife. The blade fits loose...not a little loose, but rattles around in it. It should fit a little tighter, not so tight to make it difficult to draw, but tight enough that you should have a purpose to draw it and not have to worry about it falling out. The upper on this sheath is wider than it ought to be,and the snap is simple in the wrong place. Not to mention the difficulty in get it snapped the first time - two hands and a little work. On a belt, I don't see how you could get this snapped. Couple that with the looseness of the main part of the sheath and I would expect this knife to jump the first chance it gets. I would have expected more of a loop style keeper - from the back around to the front over the finger guard to snap onto the main sheath at the side of the blade.Time to rip out some seams and break out the awl...

Beautiful knife. It shaves hair effortlessly out of the box and the sheath is simple but attractive. The knife is large, though not imposing in its size and is comfortable to handle and feels stable. There is good weight in the Cocobolo/Brass handle which feels sturdy.I considered ordering the shorter 119, thinking the 120 may be overkill but now that it’s arrived and I’ve seen it in person, I’m happy I didn’t let the size scare me away because I wouldn’t want anything smaller. The Cocobolo knife is good looking and dramatic in appearance. If I were planning on using and abusing this knife, getting the black handle would probably make that easier. As it is now, I’d imagine feeling guilty if I got too rough with it.I certainly won’t be bringing this one on the boat but may consider ordering a black handle 120 for that job.In summary, this knife is a quality item that comes razor blade sharp out of the box. It is beautiful and dramatic in presentation and I’m glad I chose it over smaller models. This purchase was also a test run to see if I liked it enough to buy these as presents for my Best Man/Groomsmen later this year. The knife passed the test; I’ll be ordering a few more.

This is the model with polished brass fittings and cocobolo grip...Impressive! And USA-made, too!The knife arrived promptly and adequately packed. The blade was hair shaving sharp right out of the box. Workmanship is excellent, with minimum tooling and fabricating marks overall. The brass fittings and cocobolo grip are both striking and rich looking. The leather sheath is likewise beautifully made. The knife is made in the US, while the sheath is made in Mexico. FYI, the highly regarded Saddleback Leather goods are manufactured in Mexico. This knife was purchased as a gift, and I detailed both the knife and the sheath with my usual collector's prep-regimen, which includes TUF-GLIDE and finishes with RENAISSANCE WAX.Suffice it to say that this gleaming gift was enthusiastically received, with many, "Wows!", around the table.I collect knives, and my personal collection at present lacks any Buck Knives, which is something I'll have to remedy! An easy five stars--especially at this price!RayB

This is a very well made knife. Buck stands for it's quality and I've been impressed by this product after using in all sorts of conditions from winter to summer backcountry camping and backpacking. It works great as a kitchen knife in camping conditions as well as a knife to make kindling and some light batoning. After 2+ years of use, no significant damage to the blade, pommel or handle. It is on a heavier side but it feels comfortable and good in the hand, providing a good grip for any task that you are up to. There are videos on YouTube that demonstrate how strong this blade really is.I wasn't a fan of the sheath as it feels a bit bulky. The leather deteriorates fairly fast after a few times being wet from the rain and snow. But, no issues with this knife in any weather. I've left it in the snow, it got soaked in the rain, used it to start a fire with a flint, cut meat and veggie, even filet a fish. Great buy at the good price.

I bought this after carefully reading other reviewers observations both good and bad. My observations are all good. The knife is as sharp as any that I put my own bevel on. All the components fit quite tightly with no gaps. The workmanship is beyond reproach. The sheath problems with the snaps scratching the handle I have not experienced. That may have been a one off issue with a poorly mounted snap. The reviewer who made that observation and overcame it with a piece of lacing was pretty resourceful to think of that though. The only thing about this knife that I don't like is that I feel it's too pretty to use. I see it just as much as a piece of jewelry/artwork as a tool and I don't want it scuffed or scratched. It looks perfect on my gun belt with my .44 with rosewood grips. I'm going to get the black and stainless 0120 and maybe I won't mind using that one as a hunting knife. At least now I'm sure that the craftsmanship is Buck.

As I do with all my new knives I decided to take this beauty to my arm for a bit of a shave to test its edge and see if I need to sharpen it. As it came off it left a cleaner shave than I could have gotten with a razor blade. I'm telling you right now the edge was glass, right out of the box. The craftsmanship is top tier, from the pommel to the tip of the blade. This thick and sturdy blade is just made too well to not be one of my new favorite knives.Be warned, however, the 120 is not a blade for the faint of heart. standing proudly at 12" in length it's blade and grip fit my larger hands perfectly, but for those with smaller hands,or who aren't used to using tools that extend that far from your hand you may be better off getting something a bit smaller. I'll certainly be keeping my multitool handy for the sake of having a more dexterous blade, but for every other task that needs doing, this blade should handle perfectly.

I bouht this a few weeks ago,was waiting till Xmas to open it but got a twenty lb slab of ny strip, and decided to go ahead and get this knife online.Man,that sucker cut through that meat like butter! It's not quite as good a slicer as my spyderco police 4 lightweight with an .11 in thick blade, but it's d$mn close-I was shocked. When I pulled it out wifey goes"WOW,that's pretty,How much did you pay for THAT one? "Real snarky. She cooled off when I told her,(cause she's dumb and was impressed because it was so big and so much cheaper then my folders, haha). This is one seriously handsome bowie,AND an excellent user and feels so good in the hand.I collect folders, but this is probably the only fixedblade I'll ever buy-I just don't see how it could ever be improved on,(at least for me,D$MN,Idid good on this buy,ha ha)

I have owned a Buck 110 for about a year. Many knives before that, but The Buck brand really defines quality. No other knife will do anymore. Shows the power of "Made in USA". It's not just a knife. It's the story of a hardworking nature that has unfortunately become consumers to the Made in China crap. Let's change this.About this knife. I needed it for camping, hunting and bigger tasks in the woods. Let me tell you that you will not find a better build, quality and sharpness like this. Durable for a lifetime. If I had a kid, he/she will definitely get my Buck knives when I die. The knives are adorable. The Sheath - quality leather and looks like it will last a lifetime as well. Thank you Buck.I don't know if you realize that you are a revolution and an example in the USA. Keep up the great work.

Very good quality and exactly what you'd expect from Buck. This didn't disappoint. I had no real reason to purchase this, just wanted to, and I really like it. It's almost too pretty to use and chance getting scratched up, but I'm not going to watch it collect dust and rot. It's got good balance and great construction. I'm not a knife expert and have no intentions of yammering on about how the tang seats into the blade - or whatever crap some of these people carry on about. It's a Buck, it meets Buck's quality, and that's good enough for me. If I break it, it''s probably because I was trying to use it as a lever to pick up a bear or something.Anyway, it's a very high quality and well made knife.Well worth the money.... though it is kind of pricey, it's still worth at the market for quality knifes.
