Pro:- Clear optics; nice bright image.- Working focus; I found it intuitive to use, but I have used other monoculars before. I don't know what problems the other reviewer was having.- Quite decent power for such a small spyglass; 25x is about the limit for a hand-held telescope, beyond which the natural shaking of one's hands makes it necessary to use a tripod. There is no tripod attachment on this, but it doesn't really need it for most applications.- Compact. It folds down into about 5".- Lovely brass finish, and the fake leather grip feels good in the hand as well as looking good from a distance.Con:- The belt case is made of the same fake leather, and it feels very thin and insubstantial. Also the zipper is very cheap, and doesn't seem reliable. Havn't actually had any problems with it yet, but I'm likely to replace the case with something a bit more durable.- Not that I could have asked for it at this price, but with the rest of the telescope being so elegant and well made, it looks incongruous to have a fake leather grip.Overall, very satisfied. An excellent product for a good price.

For the money, I am very pleased with this. Not exactly getting the previous complaints about how hard it is to use. I lifted it, opened it, held it SLIGHTLY away from my eye and focused by gently twisting the eyepiece. The magnification is such that you can't try to see something CLOSE, but I wouldn't expect to do that with a spy glass. Opens up to about 12 inches, so you might need to steady your hand on something (like a deck rail?) to initially learn how to view through it.The weight is great, it's well constructed and even the "faux leather" cover feels good in the hand.My only complaints were the case; agreed that it's very cheaply made, but this product was SO affordable,I can't imagine the case sullying your experience. And since I wanted to use it as a working prop for a pirate costume, the outer edge of the main tube has the Barska logo printed on the brass. Took VERY little effort to scrape it off with a fingernail.Overall, I'm immensely pleased with the product. :)

I purchased this spy scope purely for fun. That being said, I did do some background research--I wanted something small, classic, and functional. After reading all the reviews for this one, I decided to purchase it, knowing right from the start that it would probably take some practice with focusing. It actually took only a little getting used to. The focus is very clear, although with such high magnification it's hard not to wobble a little. The manual says the minimum focus is 6 feet, but I found it to be more like 25. Still, the idea is to look at things far away, not across your living room, right? One tip: if you can't see anything at all, try moving it farther from your face.Holding it too close actually makes it harder to see through, and you run the risk of poking your eyeball.Over-all I'm very pleased with this little spy scope. It's very pretty, the quality is nice, the focus is clear, and the price is great! I highly recommend it.

Buy this because it is fun, not because you actually expect to use it for navigation or some such purpose.Don't get me wrong, the optics on this are high quality (as is true of everything Barska makes) but it is extremely difficult to focus a monocular and the length of this when extended means you lose what you were looking at if the end of the scope moves at all. So using it on a moving boat is really quite a skill. If you want to put the time in to learn how to use a scope like this as effectively as the sailors of old, this is the perfect high quality scope for that purpose. It is definitely a real scope as opposed to a something of "toy" quality.Still, for most of us,this is a fun thing to try and then set down to pick up a much easier to use pair of binoculars. Unless there are kids aboard who might want to try it, the only time I bring it out now is to pose for sailors aboard other boats when I am passing them.

We bought the "Barska Blueline 25x30 Spy Scope" as a gift for son who loves optics. While less practical than a pair of good binoculars, this is certainly more classy. Here are my observations:Pros -+ Good Looking; the brass and "leatherett" give this an old world feel+ Good Materials; this is a fairly high quality piece that is well constructed+ Good Optics; this is a functional scope with clear lensesCons -- Difficult to hold Steady without support due to the high magnification and long length- Focusing takes practice (rotate the last section), but it comes easier with useMisc -* Leatherett case is nice enough for carrying and protecting this scope, but not for those looking for authentic leatherThis is a perfectly usable scope that has the benefit of also looking sharp. It also does make a nice slightly "different" gift.Recommended!CFH

This spyscope is high quality and good looking. The focus mechanism feels weird, but I could focus well without trouble so it does not matter. The drawback of this spyglass is that it has a narrow field of view. It appears to use galilean optics (named after Galileo who used them for the first telescopes). These optics produce an upright image at the cost of having a small field of view. The small field of view gives the illusion of instability, since a jerk of the hand can put the object you are looking at completely out of view. The quality of the optics does seem to be pretty good though. It is legitimately useful as a field telescope, even though normal binoculars would be better. It is also good for decoration.Nay, it is great for decoration. The bottom line:Purchase this if you value its looks/classiness over its usability.

I'm reviewing this telescope mainly for its appearance. I use it for a cosplay, so I really only need it for looks rather than functionality. It's small and will fit in your pocket, and when fully extended, it goes from my wrist to my elbow. It comes with a brown leather case that fits snug, and a cleaning cloth. As far as how it works, mine doesn't seem to. I've tried twisting it and doing whatever I can, and have even shown it to some friends, but none of us can get it to work. The image stays blurry. I'm only knocking off one star because I don't actually need it to work properly, and it could just be my lack of expertise that it doesn't work, but I feel like it shouldn't be this hard.Oh well, it looks great, and that's what I need.

Really looks top notch. It feels solid because its mostly brass. Operates smoothly and focus is great. READ THE DIRECTIONS, you have to turn the outer barrel to focus. (The outer one is against the eye). Sometimes you have to push it in a tiny bit to unlock it from the next piece of the telescoping barrel. I suppose you may skip the directions if you have to. :)Works good with glasses, maybe better than without, to keep a good space between your eye and the eye piece. Hope this review is helpful. The directions say minimum focus is 6 feet. The box says 6 meters. The meter length is correct.

I was surpised when my 13yr old son requested a spyglass for Christmas. I started pricing them and realized they are either very cheap or VERY expensive. Not knowing how much he would actually use it, I did not want to pay too much, but I also didn't want to get a cheap one that wasn't usable. He was very excited when he opened it (I had convinced him he wasn't getting one) and immediately went outside with it. He knew it would take some time to know how to use it just right. Seems quite pleased still.

When I saw this product listed, I decided to drop out of college and become a professional Pirate. The thick, brass construction allows me to terrorize the seas more efficiently. Who am I kidding? I don't plunder people or ships, I am looking for treasure! I'll find it now, with this fixed 25x zoom with a 30mm field of view! Seriously, it is high quality, and would recommend it if for whatever reason that you do not want to use binoculars.

This is my first spyglass and I must say that the moment I took it out of its packaging I was pleased with it; it looks and feels like quality, and when extending and collapsing it it just feels like a great spyglass. The zoom is also quite impressive, and focusing is relatively straight forward. The hardest part about using it is keeping it steady, since it zooms so far. This product is most definitely worth the money!

Nice looking solidly built product which provides good optics. One has to extend the scope all the way out. (Pull firmly until it will extend no farther.) Hold the eyepiece a little from the eye so the whole lens is illuminated. If you can not see a blurry object move the section closes to the eye in slowly till something appears. Then very slow turn the eye piece till the object is clearly in focus.

I was fishing and saw what looked to be an animal caught in a fence about 500 yards away across the Lake ,I got my 7x25 Bushnells out and could not quite make it out ,T hen I remembered the telescope in my fishing vest ,Although the field of view is small ,The clarity was amazing ,I could see that it was a gunny sack flapping in the wind .This is not just for decoration or atoy ,Very good optics.

Good, but not great spyglass. The focusing mechanism occasionally gets stuck, but is very easy to fix. Once you get used to using the spyglass, it will work very well. Extremely clear image. I have had no problems other than the one mentioned earlier. If you want an affordable spyglass, look into getting this one, but this is not for serious use. Remember, you get what you pay for.

This scope is pretty good quality for its price. The brass is good and heavy. It focuses a good, clear image. It feels good to hold and is easy to handle. The only problem is that it looks larger that it actually. The sight picture is a bit small which makes it harder to adjust your eye to get a more full image. But after using it a while, you get the knack. I like it.
