A good Chinese reel. Only exceeded by the high end Shimano's made in Japan. It is unfortunate but, you cannot buy a good smaller series spinning reel made in a respectable country anymore. It is possible you may have several "lemons" manufactured in third world countries before you get a good one. The Abu has the finish of a Chinese product. Not that bad but, Not a $700 Shimano. That said it runs like a $700 Shimano! Very smooth. Very tight. No backlash at all in anti-reverse. I would like to get the high quality you would expect for this price of reel. It is there in the way it performs but not so much in the way it looks. A very good value nonetheless. Comparing this reel to ANY under $300 reel is no competition.It is far better than all I have seen or tried. This Abu is stronger than lower end Shimano's as far as durability. I have beat on it and it runs great! I have struggled with some large fish on 6lb test. The drag and retrieve handle the fight with no issue. Other reels (except for my older Made in USA Penn's) would need new drag parts. I do not have the roughness that I am reading about. It is smooth as silk. It has more bearings on the shafts than reels of the same price range. It could be the very close backlash of the reel causing the perceived roughness read in other reviews. Maybe a quick disassembly and cleaning might reveal some containment from manufacturing. For the price this reel is right up there with the Shimano Stella FI. The Abu is a very rugged well built reel that can take a beating. It cost $500 less than a comparable Stella FI. For that much less I will take it apart and clean it if it gets rough!

Absolutely the best spinning reel I’ve had (even better than MGX). Buttery smooth and light. I ordered size 40. It has 6:1 gear ratio and with this spool diameter it winds in 1 meter of line with one handle turn! What would make it perfect? A long and shallow spool.This model comes solo - no extra spool, no soft pouch.

I've been wanting this real for a while, finally broke down and bought it. Took it out fishing landed some really big fish with Israel. It didn't give him an inch performed amazingly. In keeping with Abu Garcia Premier Construction I recommend this real to anybody who's thinking about buying it. Reel Nice!

This is a great reel all around. Very light, very smooth, strong, great drag, instant OWB anti reverse, casts perfectly. I also have the Revo SX and the latest Shimano Stradic Ci4+ and in my experience the Premier takes the cake in its price bracket. I see another one of these in my future.

I have the revo ike, the abu zata, 13 fishing creed one, revo inshore for spinning reel and this one spin like crazy. 10/10 reel it doesnt wable at all. Somebody who complain about this reel is gonna complain about à wagyu steak
