Zyliss4 in 1 Slicer and GraterI really looked forward to receiving my slicer and grater and unpacked it to find that it was very difficult to take apart.Firstly, the way it was packed, I had to slide the food holder towards handle, remove the stacked blades from the base all in one go which I found extremely difficult. I was able to slide them all off the base. I was supposed to lift the blades to get to the desired one I needed, however unclipping them was hazardous as I cut myself in the process. In the end I slid them off even though the diagrams indicated that they were to be separated. After several attempts I found a way of unclipping the blades by using the corner of the food holder. Now ready to use, I selected the thin slicing blade and set the slicer up to slice cucumber and yes it was very good indeed and the cucumber slices were perfect. Next I used the large grater and the cheese was perfectly grated to fine slivers. The non slip feet did not work as the rubber is not proud enough from the appliance to hold to a surface. I tried my chopping board and worktop but it did not give me any confidence.I will continue to master it and use it, as it does what it says in that it is a Slicer and Grater and works.I would advise extra care in the handling of the blades particularly when cleaning. In the past I found that Zyliss’ products are very well designed for use.

Like any 4-in-1 device, this is a compromise. Sometimes the benefit of owning one item instead of four is outweighed by overwhelming crapiness, but thankfully, in this case, it is thoroughly decent. The famous four are: thick slicer, thin slicer, course grater and fine grater. The thick slicer is not going to enhance your life - just use a knife - but the thin slicer is definitely worth having, especially if you haven't mastered the finger nail technique that chefs use. Grating is spot on - consistent and easy, and the fine grater and fine slicer are what you will be using most.It could do with some extra width, as my wife regularly says, but there is a trade-off - I once owned a much larger mandolin /grater and due to the faff of setting it up, it never got used.Switching blades in and out requires some care - just do it holding a tea towel, which was a valuable lesson from the mandolin days.Overall verdict: fit for purpose, and is small enough to get used and large enough for most jobs. If you are nifty with a knife, and own a hand grater, then you don't need it, but if you are nifty with a knife you aren't on this product page in the first place.

Really nicely designed product that came just at the right time as I had guests suddenly coming to stay, and eat with us! Not too keen on all the fiddly chopping and prep, although I don't mind the actual cooking. This little device made quick, light work of chopping courgettes to nice neat slices and I also used it for the potatoes, sliced and in the oven with their skins on. The grater is a good addition as it made for very easy grating of cheese as well as chocolate for the pud decoration, and and didn't end up all over the work surface or floor as before (maybe I am just a messy cook?). Surprisingly easy to clean, I thought it might be a bit fiddly, but all the little bits of choc and cheese (done seperately,of course) came out with a soak of a few minutes in soapy water, no scrubbing at all. Would have preferred some other colour apart from white for the body of the device (although it said black in description) as white plastic to me looks a bit cheap - but only a very small detail, and would give 4 and half stars, or 4 and three quarters if available.

As a slicing tool, this works well, the tool to hold the fruit / vegetable in place I've not quite got to grips with yet, as it only seems to be useful for round items. When grating, it's a tool I'll need to get used to; certainly it's easier than a standard handheld grater, but it's also slightly larger, and with only a small section for actual grating, to make it something to work on to get the right technique. The actual grated pieces of cheese do seem to come out far prettier than they do with a normal grater, so that's nice.Overall, I do like this device. it does what it needs to, and it does it well - I had hoped it would be simple to use,but with a bit more practice I think it'll be getting use daily.

Small and versatile unit. This is a Mandolin slicer, which comes with various snap in blade units for different jobs. There are blades for slicing, Juliet strings and even string cheese. The blades are very sharp, it would need to be stored away from children and one needs to be really careful in use as it's quite easy to dice a finger or knuckle tip off.The hand knob has a mini feeder cap and a bigger feed, most things would need pre-cutting in order to get them into the machine. The unit features a sliding part, which opens to snap in a blade cartridge. These also snap together, so watch your fingers while separating them! These blades are razor sharp.

I was surprised at how compactly this stored away. The extended length includes one attachment, but a clever sliding mechanism reduces the length by a third for storage. Also, all four attachments stack together. It works very well, you get two slicers and two graters. It makes light work of preparing vegetables for soup, and will take a medium sized onion cut in half or a large one in quarters. There is a smaller feed for slicing carrots and of course it will grate pares an or softer cheeses. Everything is dishwasher safe.Recommended

We have had a slicer like this before and it lost it's sharpness so we were pleased to replace it with this. The item came well packaged and has been used to slice a variety of vegetables. The red 'holder' prevents you cutting yourself and slices really easily. It was also easy to wash afterwards (you do have to watch your fingers!) Only grumble is its not that easy to store and keep everything together. Our last one 'clipped' together and was much easier in that regard.Nevertheless, this is a good slicer at a very reasonable price.

Zyliss is a quality brand and I would put then in the same league as Microplane. This is half way between a regular, simple slicer and a more complex mandolin. This enables adjustment of slice thickness and has a guard for the hand and a gripper for the food. Razor sharp blades so be careful. Dishwasher safe. Overall this product can be recommended as good value for money and a balance of price and quality .

This is a great slicer but to save my skin and leaving me with a full compliment of digits.Made from relatively sturdy plastic, I've found this mandolin a pleasure to use with a consistent cut good for veg including pesky crybaby onions. You'll still cry, but you can keep moving back and forth knowing you're safe.
