This is my first 3D printer and I was impressed with the results. Far better than the first models that came out a few years ago. This is an entry level machine and priced accordingly and as such is perfect for someone wanting to learn basic skills or to teach children about 3D printing. The version I received was the Da Vinci Mini Maker (multi-coloured version - see pics) which is cheaper than the Da Vinci Mini W (which is wifi enabled). The Mini Maker doesn't have wifi but from what I can tell that's the only difference and personally I'm not sure that's worth the extra expense. So first up - unboxing and installation was relatively easy and took about 30 min.The manual I received wasn't great as it was black and white and looked photocopied. I went online and found a full colour one on the xyzprinting website which was more helpful. You have to remove some stabilising pins, and install the print head, the printing spool (which you will need a screwdriver for), attach the filament guide and spool through the plastic filament. Before printing you need to attach a print bed sticker so that the printer has something to print on (that isn't mentioned in the installation but buried as a side note in the printing instructions!). Then download and install the software xyzware (You need to create an xyz account to do so). Here I came across my first challenge. My antivirus (McAfee) wouldn't allow the download or install saying virus detected. The xyzprinting website FAQ says this is a common problem and you have to stop your antivirus during install. I did and it then worked but who knows if there's some hidden trojan in the programme? Anyway the seond challenge was getting the printer to install on the computer as my computer wouldn't recognise it. After checking and rechecking the cables, switching off and on again and restarting the computer , I tried a different USB port and it worked. The xyzware software is pretty basic and hard to navigate but eventually I found how to select my printer and print one of the preloaded samples (I chose the candle holder). Pressed print and the machine started doing it's thing. After about 30 min - hey presto! A freshly printed hard plastic candle holder was ready. It was a bit tricky getting it off the print bed with the scraper and it tore off some of the print bed sticker. Overall I was impressed with the outcome. You can download other software from the website as well as 3d print models and do tutorials. The software is a bit basic and you have to sign in to your xyz account to access before they will work. The biggest downsides are the expensive consumables:You have to use microchipped original XYZ replacement filament spools which are around 25-30 pounds a spool and replacement print bed stickers are a pound each. Given I tore a hole in my first sticker with my first print that can prove a significant expense in the long run.Despite all this the XYZ Mini Maker is a great introduction to 3D printing and comes with everything you need to get started. I am looking forward to many hours of fun and learning to design my own 3D models.

This is an incredible low cost 3D printer.Admittedly it is a beginner printer, don't expect to be making manufacturing parts. But if you want to get into 3D printing, this is the one to go for.I would make sure you do a little bit of research first, look at YouTube videos of this, and other printers being used. And I would also visit XYZprinting's website and look at their online tutorials. The setup is quick and simple (although I would download the colour pdf manual from their website as the black and white printed manual in the box makes it difficult to see the pictures). I watched a unboxing video on YouTube before hand so I knew what to expect and what to do.People complain about having to use XYZprinting's official PLA supplies. However, it is really not that much more expensive than other brands and at least it offers a known quality of print (rather than messing about with testing all sorts of other PLAs).An important note I would mention is that you should always print with 'Raft' ON. Some people are saying that their prints do not stick to the bed sufficiently but I have found that, if you print with a Raft, the print always stays still. This does use a bit more filament but at least your prints are perfect first time. The print quality has three setting; Normal, Good and Excellent. The Excellent setting is very good and produces quite a smooth surface - although this does take much longer to print. I find that the Normal setting is sufficient for most prints and is relatively fast (although any 3D printing is pretty slow). The software is very simple to use. There are two Apps; XYZmaker is where you can put primitive shapes (cube, sphere, cylinder, etc) and 3D text together to make your own designs. And XYZware is what you use to actually print these models out. The interface is simple and allows you to adjust the necessary setting to get the prints coming out looking great! The bottom line is that this printer is £200! It is an excellent entry into the fascinating world of 3D printing. And for the price is the perfect solution for inquisitive mind. You will not find a 3D printer for this price that is as easy to set up, as consistent in prints and as much fun to use!P.S. once you get this printer visit thingiverse to access downloads of thousands of ready-to-print models!

Overall, pleased with the product and the quality of the few items that I have printed so far. This is my first 3d printer, so I only have my expectations and a few youtube videos to compare it to.Good things:1) Easy to setup and assemble the hardware out of the box.2) Easy to load / change the filament reels.3) Software is not sophisticated and not beautifully designed, but it is simple to load models and get them printed. Also, easy to work out how to load/unload filament reels and to run calibration. (Mac OSX)4) Have had zero issues with models slipping or moving on the bed, I have used the supplied bed covering tape and standard pritt stick glue for all my prints.5)Quality of the prints so far has been good.Bad things:1) The printed instructions contained in the box for the software installation are wrong. They suggest you should install XYZMaker (which, having spoken to the support team, used to be correct), but now you need to install XYZPrint to actually print any models - wasted lots of time trying to work out why my new printer was not visible to the XYZmaker software as shown in the printed instructions. The website and support articles all show/direct you to the even older software XYZWare (which also does not work with this printer), in the end it was a simple call to the support line that resolved my problem, but due to the Christmas and New Year shutdown, this was several days after I unboxed the printer.2) Filament reels are quite expensive and you are locked to the XYZ branded reels only.3) Printing is quite slow.4) On 75% of prints, just after the head has reached temperature, it moves to the far right of the bed to extrude 2 longs lines of filament to make sure that it has the clean flow of material before it begins printing the model. As the head sweeps across the bed to the right, it drips a small amount of material on the bed (often where it will then want to begin printing) - this is easily removed if you are watching, but means that you might end up with some messy elements.

For the price I find this quite good. I was wary at first and to be honest the paper for the bed supplied led to problems! I switched to using Blue Scotch tape and prints worked better. The PLA is not cheap and you cannot use other brands as there is an RFID chip. The software is basic but you can also use the 3d print software with Windows 10... personally I found the prints from that not great! so switched back to the xyzPrinting software. Not the fastest about but it can produce some great prints. I'm not sure i'd but another one but since i'm still a beginner I'll use this for a year or so and then upgrade to another model... it keeps the kids happy and I've used it to replace broken parts.overall I'ver had little trouble and at the price its a great starter printer. Its supplied with some tools for cleaning the nozzle, and a basic starter page. It came with some PLA (oh its PLA only) but it was enough to do some test prints. The software you have to download!! and you have to create an account to use the software!! but once the print is uploaded to the printer you can disconnect the computer. I haven't tested the wifi bit yet but so far happy. ir photo is a sample print...

Let me start by saying I have experience of industrial additive and subtractive technology. I purchased the da Vinci mini to give my screen obsessed kids the opportunity to put that tablet oggling time into making real things. And, for this purpose, this printer is ideal. Yes, they started by downloading things off the web, but there are some great affordable and free programs which are kid friendly and our recent output is of my kid's designs. Yes, your house will fill up with more plastic things, but this time your kids will have actually made it. Yes, you can buy faster, higher resolution printers, but the results we get, and every print has succeeded, are good enough for us,and only marginally different to a well known £1,000 printer I tested. My advice is consider carefully your reason for buying a 3D printer. If it is for curiosity, education or the sheer joy of making, this product, for the price, is really very good.

My son pronounced that he'd have been happy to buy this entry-level 3D printer for the amazon price - he's pretty tech savvy and likes value for money, but was looking for something to eventually use with his class of 11yos.Right now, this is at home and it doesn't take up too much space, which was a consideration for us. He found it easy enough to set up with the software download, though it did take some time. He's used it twice and whilst yes, there has been some trial and error resulting in some waste, he's not had any of the issues mentioned with measurements being off or the model sticking to the bed.It loses 1* as there is some waste of the filament is expensive to buy,as you do have to stick to the brand supplied. Overall, for the 'as a treat' use it's going to get in lessons in due course, it's not bad for the price and output.

Good printer but not worth risking updating the firmware. I got this printer to replace my kit built one which is a couple of years old. The print quality is good and it calibrates itself. It is also very easy to clean and maintain, after having a kit built one I feared this would be pretty much a sealed unit but you can still get to the important bits if you need to.Like I said do not update the firmware if the printer is working OK. I had to get a replacement after a firmware update bricked my first one. Second one has been fine without updating. The fact I got another one of these instead of a different printer is testament to what I think of this printer. The locked down filament does notbother me as its a good quality and where the filament is consistent it removes one extra variable that could complicate print quality.

I bought this with caution, as I don't know anything about 3d printing and wanted to buy one as a surprise birthday present for my son. I read online reviews and it seemed the best budget choice. My son was very pleased to receive it - slight frustration managing to initially register it to download software, as the XYZ site was down for maintenance, but came back up a few hours later. I would agree with reviews that it is a good printer for beginners, as it's software controls temperature etc. automatically. Downside is the tie to proprietary filament and inflexiibilty in terms of type of filament, but frankly that doesn't bother us much at the moment. Results have been good so far - he prints on the medium level and the models are, to me, impressive in terms of detail and finish. I am very happy with this product so far. .

Initially had problems, but easily solved. The filament was jamming a lot in the extruder - sometimes the 'unload filament' function solved this, other times it was really stuck in there meaning I had to remove the plastic feed tube and really yank the filament out from the top with pliers while the extruder was hot. Also problems with the object sticking to the bed, and the filament itself snapping before it reached the feed tube. All issues seemed to the solved by simply by heating up the room a little. This printer seems to really like it if the room is about 24 degrees Celcius or warmer - any colder than 20 degrees and you will probably struggle with lots of similar problems.Otherwise,a great piece of kit considering the price - really happy. Printed many objects successfully, no problems for weeks now.

A key thing for me is ease of use + self intuitive. I always have in mind my our grandchildren. But two things really come to mind: as a grandparent I went through the setup procedure, and double checked to ensure I got right. Sure enough I did! Also I went through the setup on a Windows 10 PC desktop and then an Apple Macbook Air. And for me it was very straight forward? As to using the printer it was easy. Why does a pensioner need it? key thing the cost is affordable plus the other objective is for our grand children to not be intimidated by technology, so how to get them to enjoy it? OK not old enough just yet, but the tools and samples are here waiting and they are just coming to that age, where they're curious... which is great. And yes, using this 3D printer really is just a click of a button.

I saw many reviews & comments about 3d printers that scared me from trying it, I looked at this one and it had modelling apps aswell as all the maintenance tools and a starter fillup. BUT I wanted something that was going to work for me as a beginner, and I was surprised by how tolerant this printer was at mstakes, it seems to work right out of the box if you prepare yourself by watching online videos on youtube about unboxing and installing, the xyz website has good videos, the only problem I found was the many different apps that were available on the site for it , I did not know which one was what, but after I figured out it was xyzmaker full suit , I was printing, but im on win10,tablets etc are supported but I did not try them. at the end of the day Im printing what I want

Good fun and fairly easy to operate once the install is sussed. Still not sure I'm doing it right though as there's been a bit of wastage of the filament while I get the hang of it all through trial and error. Which brings me on to the downside of it all... the filament. Disappointing that only the expensive spools can be used and the unit won't accept other brands. Probably only useful to us for little one-off pieces but it's a fun thing while the filament lasts.

A prefect start to 3d printing!I've had my one of these for a little over a year now and I can't fault it, easy to set up (less than 10 mins to printing) easy to use and a great insight into this amazing hobby I'm now hooked iv eprinted so much from figurines to print in place parts. Highly recommended!!

Very good 3D printer, perfect for beginners and more advance creators, it's super easy to use and has a load of awesome features. It doesn't take up much room and isn't too loud when printing, highly recommended!
