Fascinating novel to read with a few surprises and interesting bits here and there, though the protagonist (whom you can name) has an insufferably gloomy part of his personality. This is my biggest gripe with the game. Can't he be a little more in the middle/normal and not such an emo edgelord? While this is explained later on, the fact that there are multiple choices you can take at some point of the story (in visual novels, the term 'common route' is used to describe the beginning sections of the story before branching to a route based on choices made during and/or after the 'common route'), dealing with the same development for the protagonist adds to the suffering. Needless to say,the protagonist has irritating dialogue and narration that I wish I don't read again; similar thing can/may be said for the rest of the characters, but that is only a matter of preference/taste. The protagonist is being singled out because it's the most important character in the novel. I just pretend I'm playing multiple protagonists to make this tolerable as there are times where the protagonist is normal and not such a saddo.Graphically, the game runs at 1080p, makes the novel look super nice at times. Audio has the usual types of music that can be heard in a visual novel (chilling, drama/sad, comedic, suspense) that matches with the setting. Some typos too can be found, like with pretty much any visual novel localised for release in the West, and very liberal translations (I happen to know a few words in Japanese), but no big deal. The box and artbook that comes from ordering this makes a nice bonus but the artbook is something to look at after reading through the routes in the game because of major spoilers.Overall, the novel can get thrilling and unpredictable (or predictably unpredictable?) despite my lengthy complaints about the protagonist, and anyone who wants to read a visual novel for the Switch for the first time or not should give this a look.

WorldEnd Syndrome is an English-subtitled, Japanese voice acted visual novel. The story revolves around a teenage boy who has suffered a horrible trauma, who transfers school to Mihate Town - a beautiful quaint little town, haunted by the legend of the Yomibito - a formerly living person, stripped of the memory of their death, and who returns to the town to live as a normal person, leading eventually to tragedy...It is against this backdrop of a town associated with death and despair that our tragic protagonist attempts to make sense of life and how to continue living...The game itself has horror aspects and more than a few creepy scenes, but at its core it is deeply romantic and a celebration of life,as well as resolution about moving past trauma. There are many layers of intrigue and mystery, and the game deconstructs itself and plays with your notions of a visual novel to a degree, culminating in an explosive climax. It is well worth your time, but bear in mind that the game will deliberately confuse you at some points. It will all make sense eventually! As far as visual novels go, I'd say this is moderate in length - around 20-30 hours to finish all of the main story paths, and maybe a handful of hours more for full collection. I would recommend it to everyone who enjoys visual novels in general, romance, mystery, and intrigue!Just one final note: DO NOT look in the artbook until you've finished the game. There are major spoilers, including one massive one on one of the very first pages.

Found this game impossible to put down. Great mix of a seriously good mystery, comedy and romance. Each girl was extremely individual and brought their own element to the game, making playing multiple times feel completely different. Each playthrough, choosing to spend time and follow the events of another girl each time, bring you more information about the dark mystery in the town you've moved to.It's extremely easy to skip through text you've already read and loads of save files if you want to go back and change any of your decisions. This game is similar to 7'scarlet, so if you liked that, you'll probably like this.I really feel like this game is a perfect balance of mystery and romanceand was shocked to find that I really enjoyed the romance part of the game with all 5 girls (especially Miu because she's adorable <3).Weidly enough, I think it's my favourite game I own on the switch.

If you’re a fan of Higurashi then you’ll love this as there’s multiple similarities to the point where it’s almost like a spin-off, or least very clear they were influenced by it.Although the intro is a few hours long and leaves you with the worst ending, that’s where the game truly begins as you unlock multiple choice conversations and the towns map to explore, the start of the actual main story, & not to mention the most important feature of the game- best girls routes! You’ll spend roughly 30ish hours trying to uncover the mysteries of Mihate town with each girls route offering you a piece to the overall puzzle, which of course means multiple play throughs! This game really seems to be under the radar and off the map,so I really hope these few words can help draw even just one more person to it! You know you get a gorgeous artwork book too right?

Pre-ordered this game. Glad I did. It came on the day, in perfect condition. The box has beautiful artwork and there’s even a mini artwork book in there. I haven’t looked through it, as very kindly pqube put a note on the first or second page in saying it would contain spoilers.I’ve been playing the game and managed to get the worst ending, but i apsolutely love it! The text is fully voiced in Japanese, and there are English subtitles, which so far have been translated very well. The game is a visual novel which has a really gripping storyline so far! - a heads up this is a text heavy visual novel, there is limited interaction - but again I’m only really scratching the surface,so I will update if I am wrong. So yeah super happy with it. I would definitely recommend this visual novel!

I thoroughly enjoyed playing this game. The visuals are excellent, and the game doesn't just rely on fanservice. There is a genuinely good storyline with many twists and perfect characterisation. Sure, there are titillating cg's, but the main focus is on what is happening in the town, and who is doing what to whom. Multiple playthroughs are just as enjoyable as the previous ones, and it looks like a sequel is on the cards after the end credits have run for the last time. The extras are also well implemented, but do not flick through the art book until you have finished all endings or it will seriously spoil the plot...

The game really blew me away unexpectedly, I wasn't ready for the story that unfolded in front of our eyes. The characters were nicely written and most of them really easily likable for me. The map system is "meh" made the game a tiny bit tedious. But the backgrounds are AMAZING, especially the live ones with some animation going on. The music and overall sound is also done very well. Definetly give it a try if you like folklore Japanese stories and closed off villages like in Higueashi no naku koro ni.

To be honest, I didn't expect much at first, but the game hooked me with how the mystery unfolded. I wish the story was longer (not just ~1 month), as I LOVED the radio show Worldend Syndrome that plays on the weekdays in the game. It is a pricy game, but I would say it is worth it because you also get the sweet art book!
