This is my second WoodWick candle so I had a better idea of what to expect this time around. My other WoodWick was low and wide, this one is tall and narrow - more the shape you might expect a candle to be.As with my other Woodwick, this is very nicely designed, making it an excellent present - if the recipient likes strongly scented candles. This is not a present for someone who is sensitive to strong scents. The glass holder is attractively curved inward in the middle making it easy to pick up. It's hard to figure out how thick the glass is because it has a slight widening at the top rim, and the base is much thicker than the sides. The wax has been melted inside so it fits the space.Being a WoodWick it has a special wick, very unlike the kinds of wicks you get in a normal candle. The name gives the game away, the wick is made of a cross shaped section of what looks like thin treated wood which "crackles as it burns".The lid appears at first to be a dark wood, but is actually MDF with a laminated wood top. The edges of the lid are rimmed with a black rubber seal which keeps the contents sealed and fresh, although the moment you start opening the cardboard box, which has two layers you are met by the smell of the candle. Open the final rubber sealed lid and the smell is very intense. My other Woodwick had a pale green candle which was very tasteful in a North American house-in-a-sitcom kind of way, but this one is cream coloured. Still nice but not quite such a strong statement of colour palettes. There are two stickers applied to the product. On one side is a thick sticky plastic label saying "WW WoodWick. - crackles as it burns - MAGNOLIA - 609.5 g". The candle including glass and lid weighs a bit over 1.1KG so I don't know what the number refers to - maybe the weight of just the candle?. I thought magnolia was a colour so I can't say whether this is the smell of magnolias. This time the label is stuck on dead straight which is great - my other WoodWick had a slightly tilted label that kind of detracted from the whole classy look.Under the top lid is a big sticker that seems to be made of sticky aluminium - I really am guessing this. It has a photo of the wood wick burning. It talks about the innovation of the WoodWick design, tells you it is made by and American company and is compliant in California for Formaldehyde Phase 2 - that'll be the lid no doubt. For best results you're supposed to burn the candle for three to four hours. On the underside of the glass jar is a round sticker that gives details of safety precautions which are entirely as expected - don't leave it attended, don't set fire to your curtains, that sort of thing. The label also tells you it contains some unusual chemicals that this may produce an allergic reaction. It is harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects. The candle is supplied in a robust, carefully designed plain brown cardboard box that is easy to recycle and means it will definitely arrive in one piece. In summary - this would make a very nice gift indeed for someone who doesn't mind strongly scented candles.

Please note - reviews are for the different scents and sizes of candles so if you're keen to find out about a particular one, read through until you find it :)This is a review for the medium Redwood candle. It comes securely packaged in a Yankee Candle box which might confuse some but Yankee now own Woodwick and so are probably just saving on production costs by using their own boxes. It's a heavyweight candle - and is beautifully presented in an hourglass container with a smart polished wooden lid which has a rubber seal so ensuring it holds the bulk of scent in until you're ready to light it. That's in comparison to many cheaper ones that are open so much of the scent is wasted before you even buy them. When lit,it takes a few seconds for things to happen but bit by bit you start first to hear the faint crackling sound - reminds me a bit of the Ad break of a crackling fire on the (UK) Christmas channel - at least with the volume way down. It's certainly not so loud as to have you worrying about what's burning somewhere (well, unless you've better hearing than me). A really unique and pleasant effect. The scent starts to kick in quite early on too= within 2-3 minutes of lighting and is what I'd describe as a somewhat manly type of fragrance being that of sandalwood and amber, which are both rather 'heavy' scents sometimes. But it's quite subtle yet after only 5 minutes of burning you'll certainly notice it permeating the room.It may prove a somewhat awkward candle for some in that unlike most (although perhaps the maxim would be best applied to all as I know I've many that haven't burnt right) Woodwick state the candle must be burned for at least 3-4 hours for best effect and usage. What they mean is that burning for a shorter period will only burn up around 1-2 cm of inner wax leaving the outer edges untouched - after a while if you always do that you end up burning the centre alone down to the base which of course will waste the candle completely. The longer burn ensures it burns down evenly from inside to outside. While you can use the lid as a base, I'd only do so for any candle when fairly new. Once you're starting to burn the last 2-3 cm down it would be much safer on a ceramic surface (plate or tile etc) as the base will obviously get quite hot. We had an instance locally where a lady lost her entire fireplace after burning a glass holder candle directly on a wooden mantlepiece. So take all necessary precautions and make no assumptions where safety is concerned. An excellent offering from Woodwick that will provide enjoyment for up to 60 - 100 hours according to Woodwick (I couldn't find any info anywhere else on that though) so is well worth the price tag as some cheaper ones (£8-10) only last between 8 and 20 at best).

With a WoodWick candle you get an extra dimension on top of light and smell: SOUND! What a lovely addition--a crackling like a log fire as the wooden PlusWick burns. This is so evocative of Christmas, it would make a really lovely Christmas present, and the glass container, the label and the wooden lid all look very classy. I do wish it came in a nice box though.WoodWick make quality candles with wax made partly from soy. This will melt more evenly than harder, cheaper waxes, so the surface will stay level and prevent pooling or tunnelling, both of which ruin the candle. The hourglass shape of the container helps even burning, too. When you first light this candle, leave it burning for 2 hours so that the wax melts right to the edge of the glass and this encourages even melting with all future uses. WoodWick say that 4 hours burning is the maximum recommended time on each use and the large candle (this one) should last for 130 hours burning (30-33 uses).Wooden wicks are a bit more difficult to light than cotton wicks. You will need to use a lighter (kitchen ones are best) because it can take 20-30 seconds to get the wick to catch. If the wick smokes or the burned area of wick is longer than a quarter of an inch, trim it back to that length and re-light and that should stop the smoke. The perfume is based on Magnolia, green leaves and white flowers--rather a vague description-- but the smell is definitely floral, and nice and fresh.I love this candle and always think it is worth spending as much as your budget can stretch to when buying candles.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this scented candle, but a quick sniff and I was transported to many an open fireside where the scent of smoking wood filled the room (I hasten to add, not the smoke itself). For me, it is very reminiscent of holidays where I lit an open fire every evening (even during the summer months, as it is the UK after all), with a sweet, fresh foliage tone thrown in for good measure. The candle comes with a special wick that creates the subtle sound effects of a crackling fire, which is highly pertinent with this particular scent. The scent fills the room and definitely makes for a good impression as soon as you enter, but it is sufficiently strong that you can smell it whilst you remain in the room, unlike some where the scent attenuates over time. There are three different scent layers so you will get a differing sensation as the burn progresses. For the best burning experience, it is suggested that you burn the candle for 3-4 hours per use as that will help to even out the melt and produce the longest use possible without leaving half of the wax stuck up the sides of the jar. The wick should also be trimmed to 1/8 inch before each use: removing burnt pieces with fingertips is the suggested method. This is a good candle that comes in a well designed box that cushions it for the delivery process. Note there is nothing on the box exterior to alert as to contents, so it will be great for gifting, whether to self or to others, including as a secret Santa or (large) stocking filler.

I bought a few of these as gifts last Christmas, as I loved the fragrance and the idea of the crackling wick. Feedback from the recipients was very good, and so I jumped at the chance to try one for myself (thank you Amazon!).Firstly, the scent "Redwood", wow: It is everything that smells good about Christmas. Over the past week, five friends have visited separately whilst this candle has been burning in my kitchen and five friends have made comments about Christmas! This fragrance can make the largest of rooms feel cosy and snug. It really is divine. The candle itself is attractive (hence why I gifted them last year) and considering how large the candle market is,WoodWick manages to have a unique identity - from the wooden lid to the crackling wood wick. Speaking of which, whilst you are never going to mistake the sound for a roaring open fire, the quiet crackle of the wick is rather peaceful. Previous reviewers have mentioned that it is important to keep the wick short - I can confirm that if you don't squish it down to the recommended length (which is about 4mm), it does kick out black candle smoke whilst burning. At the correct wick length, it does not.The candle arrived in a Yankee Candle box (I hadn't realised that WoodWick was a subsidiary of Yankee Candle). Personally, I think it would have more impact in a WoodWick box. However, that is not going to prevent me from rating this as top marks. For the price point, these candles are best-in-class. Highly recommended.

The candle arrived in a plain cardboard box protected inside another box a bit like egg box packaging. The glass is a lovely slightly hour glass shape with a nice, well fitting wooden lid with rubber seal. The lid has WW in silver printed on top and a sticker saying "Patented +Pluswick . Crackles when it Burns". The weight of the candle is 9.7oz (275g) so it should last several weeks. It has a wonderful cinnamon woodsy perfume which is really strong when you remove the lid but isn't as strong when burning. The wick is a star shaped solid and it does produce a crackling sound but the house has to be quiet and you need to be less than 2 feet away from it to hear it.The instructions for best burn results are "Burn candle 3 - 4 hours per use. Keep the wick trimmed to between 1/4" and 1/8"long Allow the candle to burn until the wax melts out to all edges of the candle container . To trim the wick , gently break off burned edges with fingertips and discard. Avoid drafts".I love, love, love Yankee candles but didn't realise this was one of theirs. The only mention to Yankee is on the cardboard box that contained it. The scent is really nice and will be lovely for Christmas. The burn is slightly uneven though and the centre burns and melts faster than the outer edges which sticks around the glass so I scrape it down between uses. Any Yankee candle fan will love this as a welcome addition to their collection.

There's quite a few candles that we've bought in the recent past that have a wooden wick, similar glass body with a wooden lid, and they do make a sound like a real crackling fire, but that only lasts for a minute or so. After that, its just like a normal candle, but with a bigger wick.Feeling a bit cheated, we thought we'd try what is probably the originator of the trend; a Candlewick.Listen to the video and you will get an impression of how it sounds. Its like a real small fire. Very calming! The candle is scented, and the smell is also better than the copycat candles; smells a lot more refined. The downside is of course cost; these cost more than other candles, but they do actually sound like a fire.EDIT: We've now had the candle burn all the way to the bottom and noticed another downside. As the candle burns past half way down, the crackle sound starts to go from a warm fire crackle to a Geiger counter. The shape of the glass container does things to the acoustics. You may not notice this, but my partner certainly did!Oh, and looking at some of the other reviews regarding breakages; ours came very well wrapped; the outer box was bubble wrapped, and once the box was opened, the candle itself was again bubble wrapped within the box. So double wrapped, and far less chance of a break in transit - looks like someone has heeded the feedback! So, all good, and a great candle!

When buying candles I used to choose Yankee over Woodwick as they were more readily available and supposedly the best on the market. However, it would appear that both brands are now owned by the same company and Woodwick products are now much easier to obtain.Where I feel that Woodwick scores points over Yankee is in the quality of their products, from the attractively shaped containers down to the stronger, longer lasting scents used in their candles. This particular candle, the WoodWick Medium Hourglass Scented Candle, Redwood, is a good example of that quality. The clean lines of the hour glass shaped jar along with the smart, wooden lid immediately make me think that the designers were going for a more elegant and sophisticated look than their counterparts. This, together with the stronger scent, crackling wick and more even burn (in my opinion) makes this an appealing proposition when buying a candle. The only downside for me is that, like most other candles, these use a mainly paraffin based wax and if the wick is not kept properly trimmed, you will get black, sooty smoke rising with the flame. However, the main positive aspect of this candle is that the scent is a lot stronger and lasts a lot longer than most other candles that we have used. So far we've been burning this one for approximately 30-40 hours and it still smells as good as ever.

I'm not really quite sure where to start with this candle. It's most distinctive feature is its crackling wick. It does indeed produce a significant noise, similar to the noise if you let a drop of water fall on a normal candle, but on-going. It's like a very muted Roman candle. Whether you love it or find it a bit distracting will, of course, be a matter of personal taste. My family likes it.The scent is strong and pleasant, if a little generic (i.e., pretty similar to every other scented candle I've ever used). As with scented candles generally, if you stay in the room with it, your nose quickly adapts to the smell and you stop noticing it so much; but leave the room and return a few minutes later and it's an impressive aroma. The glass container is elegant.(It does remind me a bit of the cooling towers of our nearby power station, but then I think those are quite elegant too!) The wooden lid is also a nice touch. The manufacturer could usefully refine their sticker glues a bit though: the "easy peel" sticker on the lid left a nasty circular residue, while the embossed sticker on the container, which I assume is intended to be permanent, was starting to lift off when I first remove the candle from its packaging.Overall, this is a nice, wintery candle, with a sonic twist that will certainly make it a talking piece with visitors. Recommended.

I've had some quite disappointing Woodwick candles recently to be honest (see other reviews) so thought I'd give them one last chance and try one of their 'fresh off the shelves' new ones and went with this one.On taking the lid off and smelling cold it did smell very faintly of suede, veeeery faintly, so my hopes weren't high to be honest as I do like a scented candle to have some scent throw.Having said all this I'm happy to report that the scent throw of this candle is pretty good. Plus it actually does smell exactly like Suede. Not leather or some cheap poly-nylon mix (whatever that smells of) but genuine suede. It's not an overpowering smell, it wont cover the wafts of a wet dog for example,it does fill the whole room and gives a nice ambience to a reasonably sized room. You won't think you've moved into a show shop of anything but overall I'm impressed with this one. The 'crackle' is there but not over loud, it's looks nice and burns well.I guess it's unisex but its quite a masculine candle (a 'Mancle'?) and would make a nice gift in one those trendy loft apartment type places (the sort of place you see in adverts full of successful people with illuminious white teeth). It's the opposite to where I live. Above a kebab shop. Living the dream.

I had received a Jasmine Woodwick candle for Christmas and I loved it.Coming from habits of sleeping to sounds of burning woods of fireplaces, using Woodwick candles provided a very relaxing feeling for me thanks to the crackling but I had an issue with the Jasmine Woodwick as it would crackle too irregularly-rapidly and loudly with lots of smoke. I couldn't figure out how to fix this problem but my love for Woodwick candles didn't decrease.Once my Jasmine Woodwick finally finished, I knew I had to find a new candle soon.I was after something where the smell wouldn't be overpowering and after some research, I was directed to this Trilogy Woodwick candle and boy,is this a perfect balance of everything.I don't know if it was just with the Jasmine candle but the Trilogy candle did not have the smoke issue nor the overly loud crackling that the Jasmine did. The smell also kind of crept up onto you very slowly and did not fill your nose but rather, kind of lightly scented everything in the room where it was lit on.Would I recommend this to future buyers? A definite yes.Woodwick stepped up their game and production value is obviously better. None of the issues I face with my other candle appeared for this one.

I've used quite a few of these candles & they're just fabulous. This "Redwood" fragrance is simply gorgeous. It's slightly musky with what I can't describe but I think most people would love it. It's not sweet but rather more sandalwood type. Really impressed with the fragrance. The "Currant" fragrance is obviously like berrids/currants. It's very nice for Christmas. However I'm not too fond of berries fragrances but having said that this one is quite nice as it's not sweet but more pleasant & subtle.Firstly, unlike many fragranced candles, the give off a good aroma which fills out the whole room & more. Further, they make a crackling sound as claimed by manufacturer. They also have a good wick which makes them nice & bright; all of which creates a lovely cosy & warm atmosphere. They're made with high quality ingredients & the container is a very nice glass with a wooden cap.The height is about 11cm in total with the candle a being 8.5cm & diameter also 8.5 cm approximately.Note that this is the mid-size as they do bigger ones & mini ones also (I highly recommend this size or smaller as the bigger ones might develop problems with big wicks which is normally the case with all big candles which have one wick.

When it comes to candles my wife is a Yankee fan and hadn't tried anything from the WoodWick brand until this Magnolia-scented Large Hourglass candle arrived. She was initially pleasantly surprised by the look of the hourglass jar that the candle came in and curious as to how the wooden Pluswick would perform. Once lit, the cross-shaped natural wooden wick worked very well and did actually crackle a bit like a log fire does – if rather more quietly. The wax used here is blend of paraffin and soy which is pleasantly fragranced like sweet magnolia blossom – although it had a very broad floral scent when hot. My wife has burned this candle over a number of evenings and it is lasting extremely well with WoodWick estimating up to 130 hours in total for this large size. This Magnolia version is just one fragrance from a very broad range available – just click the chevron on the style box to see the complete collection. Currently around twenty-five pounds from Amazon this WoodWick candle is a product my wife likes a lot and the Large Hourglass is a style she will definitely purchase again – five stars for value and quality at the current price.

This was an intriguing proposition for me. The smell of wood? Not only that, the smell of three different types of wood. The WoodWick candle is a well designed and presented scented candle, though for me the three shades of grey were not the most appealing colours. They are just a bit "blah". Not offensive but also not that enticing. The three layers are clearly visible though. When lit the candle wick produces a nice gentle crackle effect and if you are in a quiet enough room you could just about fool yourself into thinking you had a small open log fire on the go.I've included a couple of photos and a video of the lit candle to demonstrate the crackle which I hope you find helpful. The smell is very nice and not overpowering.I can smell sandalwood and there is a cinnamon sweetness to it as well that fills the room beautifully. The other thing I really like is that when I blew out the candle there was no lingering smoke or ember such as you get on the more traditional string type of wick. I blew it out and the Pluswick went dark almost immediately. This is a great scented candle and one our whole family has found very pleasant.

I've been very happy with this candle, with a few caveats. This candle has great aromas, though your room won't be filled with smell immediately when you light it. If you have guests coming over, you would want to light it 30 minutes ahead of time. The candle is very nice looking as well, so I leave it out when I'm not using it. This candle seems as though it will last for a loong time. I can't tell you exactly how many hours of burning, but I have been using this regularly for a couple months and there is still a lot left. This candle is a great deal, I think you will be hard pressed to find a candle that looks and smells as good as this, and burns for as long as this for the price. It does make an audible crackling noise, which could be a positive or a negative depending on your preferences; I'm neutral on it. You do have to burn this for 3+ hours at a time for it to melt all the way to the edges, otherwise you end up with a tunnel down the middle, and the wax that touches the glass does not melt.I recommend this candle, as long as you don't mind the crackling noise, and are fine with burning this for long periods of time.
