Overall: fun, goes well on carpet or anywhere relatively flat and interesting capability out of the box - but tough to get going with, and needs expansions to go further. Does not transmit video or even have a camera on-board.Unboxing: The packaging was nice-looking and innovatory, but I had a hard time getting the robot out, and inadvertently turn it on while it was still stuck - missing some of the 'getting started' blurb it was going through. Also, easy to miss are the included Lego extension kit connectors that are snugly fitted on the sides of the box.First use: This was the worst part of the experience, with a huge app download (~150Mb iOS) required before the toy will do anything else - and then getting connected, which seemed tougher than it should be, and then a long (~10m) wait for firmware to be transmitted over bluetooth and then a character selection and tutorial before it 'came to life' again and stopped needing the app directly to perform.Charging: good use of a standard micro-USB port here, but no charging plug (just a cable) included.Features: the robot has to be given a 'character' to perform - one of 4 available, and the voices and 'attitudes' are interesting initially, but quickly get repetitive - and I've found that I turned them off (by digging through the menus to find the volume control - they're very loud on the default setting too). The robot comes with proximity sensors in front and rear and they work well - and support the different interactive modes, i.e. avoid obstacles while roving about, attack obsticles, move away from moving obstacles while otherwise remaining stationary. The 'coding' ability is interesting, however very tough to do on even a newer large screen mobile 'phablet' - I would recommend a 8"+ size for this. The 'textual analysis' ability is also interesting, more suitable on a mobile - however, could benefit from some 'Alexa-like' cloud based sentiment and meaning analysis - a clear and simple set of instructions, like 'change to blue' are the ones most likely to work.Extensions: Ads in the app promote the different extension kits that can be purchased - I think they will make the experience more fun - but it would have been nice to include some of them in the basic package.

I've read about a lot of these toys that teach coding, and this Cue robot is a great example of that. The design of the Cue Robot is really nice - I like the spherical motif, and the black/blue colours are a classic combination that you see on a lot of products like this - it conjures up feelings of a high-tech product. It's really well made too - it's reassuringly weighted and the motors all work well and reliably. We only have hard floors and it sails around with no problems at all, and I think from the ground clearance and engine power that it would deal well with carpets as well. The speaker is loud enough to be easily heard wherever, and the lights on the 'face'are bright and clear as well.I really like the 'multiple personality' feature, where you can change the persona of the robot - it gives an extra layer of interest and attention keeping, as you can change personality whenever the novelty is running low to make interactions become fresh again and explore a new full set of responses. This robot needs the app to function, so naturally the app is a very important part of the product and there are no problems here at all either. The drag and drop based coding works well, but the real power and value comes from the javascript side of the programming process. It's a nice interface and is helpful and easy to use. I'd say that occasionally there are some slowdowns when loading the app, but that's probably more to do with the hardware I'm using than the apps fault. Javascript in this context is a very good choice - it introduces lots of important coding practices and conventions and there are huge amounts of tutorials online to help with Javascript issues. All in all an excellent choice for someone who wants to introduce coding in a fun way, or just wants their own robot to play and interact with.

It took me a while to get this out of the box. The shape of the packaging, whilst very striking, meant that removal is not very intuitive and during the process I managed to hit the on switch so it started trying to move and rotate whilst still restrained.Eventually I got it out and downloaded the app. This is quite large so it took a while. Pairing took a couple of attempts and then there was a 15 minute delay for a firmware update. Eventually though I could continue with the setup and choose a personality. Anyone familiar with the Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy will be familiar with the Cirius Cybernetics Genuine People Personalities from where the four characters available here can be chosen. Then you are able to actually use the robot in various ways. The first and easiest is to use your phone/tablet as a remote. The robot moves easily over lino or carpets and can get up to quite a decent speed whilst still being very manoeuvrable. It can avoid things or follow things and will respond to claps or very loud sounds. The dogs don't know what to make of it! The other way to use it is via coding or programming lessons within the app. These coding modules are very good, but some prior knowledge would be extremely beneficial and the text on my Galaxy S8+ is very small and hard to see, making control and programming using the blocks quite fiddly for someone with poor eyes and big fingers like me. My daughters have done some coding at school though, and have better eyesight, so both testified to its effectiveness as a fun learning tool/toy.Overall we like this product. The voices can get a bit annoying, the packaging was fiddly and I think it is missing a user manual, but overall a very good educational product.

My kids are 15 and 12 and we’ve had quite a lot of things that claim to be easy to use coding robots over the years with minimal success. This one actually is the best we’ve come across and actually fulfils expectations. Easy to get going, right out of the box it’s chatting away and very appealing. The app is pretty good and has various modes for if you just want to have a gentle play around with it and drive it about or it can lead you through the coding process step by step in a scratch type format. For more advanced coders you can just go straight to text mode and do what you like. There were times my 12 year old was frustrated when following the “scratch” exercises as when she was sure she had done it right but it was just refusing to move on.There’s no help available you just have to keep working away at it and trying different things but I guess that’s a coding lesson in itself. All in all I am very impressed. The build quality seems excellent, works on carpet just as well as hard floor, you can choose from 4 different characters but then you seem to be stuck with it, so make sure you choose one that has the least annoying voice for you. It has front and rear sensors and a microphone so can respond to claps etc. You can record your own sounds for it to play. The possibilities for an imaginative mind are limitless.Would be great for a secondary school coding club.

I have an eight and eleven year old, and both have had good fun with this. It's touted as an educational and fun way to learn the concepts involved in coding. And watching my kids interact with it - it does. My daughter spent a chunk of time writing an elaborate routine which saw it drive up to me, spin around, change it's face and then say 'Happy Fathers Day' to me - she was thrilled when it worked exactly as planned, (as was I!), but success with this sort of thing is exactly the encouragement kids need to get their brain in programming gear and believe that if they persevere and use logic they can be successful. The only issue (and the reason my daughter insisted I knock a star off this review)is that we have had intermittent, but too frequent, connection issues with her phone which she finds irritating. If that was flawless (and it may well be with most phones) then she'd be giving this five stars.

I can't believe how much this technology has developed. I remember coding BBC computer robots that followed white lines etc and it was hard work with a fairly dull outcome. This is amazing; my 12 year old daughter has really taken to this and is now able to program the Cue by herself (although she did need quite a bit of input from me to start with). The other reviews outline some of the difficulties from unboxing to getting started so I won't go there. My best advice is to search for 'Wonder Workshop Cue Robot' and find the makewonder website which gives soooo much detail about how it works, how to use it and the various accessories (some of them are available on Amazon). My plan is to get her the sketch kit for Christmas, and for just under £15 there's a protective carry case because she's taking it into school on a regular basis. If you can, get one!

Wow. This goes beyond my level of understanding. I can't believe things like this exist nowadays for kids. And at a pretty reasonable price, considering. My teenage nephews love it. Like I said, it goes above my head, but they use it no bother.I must admit we all had a little difficulty getting it out the box and set up. Little bit fiddly, and I think some more in depth instructions would be good. But we got there in the end. And after some configuring with the app etc we were good to go.The boys love it. And I'm just amazed by it. Watching it zoom around from their commands etc. We have wooden floors and some thin rugs and carpets and it works perfect on them.I recommend it ,though I confess I couldn't compare it to anything else like it on the market. But from this experience alone, we all give the thumbs up.

This is an interesting robot for secondary school age – so 11+. It is fairly easy to set up, but you do need the app to really interact properly.Firstly, it is quite robust, and runs well, even on carpet. You choose from four characters and they can be a little annoying, so try them out before picking one. You do have a choice of male/female voices and the characters do have some personality.Once you have this set up, you can use the app to move Cue, as with a normal robot, or to try some early coding. My daughter, who is twelve, took this to coding club at school and it was a big hit. I think it is a useful, interactive, and educational, toy, for older users.I am fairly impressed and the coding aspect means it retains interest beyond the novelty value.

First of all, this took an age to get out of the box...the little tinker was in there good and proper, and resisted many attempts before being eventually released! The next lengthy process was downloading the app. It was very annoying to be honest. Even when done, it isn’t constantly working, so a bit of a letdown. My son is 14, and coding definitely seems to be the in thing at the moment. He has really enjoyed using this, which in my book can only be a good thing. Any parent of a teenage boy will know that most things are very boring, so to see him enthuse over this has been a joy.He is taking it into coding club at school, and it’s a been a real hit in here.I’m sure that this is one of those toys with long lasting play value.

Billed as a toy ... but not sure that I would really class it as such. Out of the box you can get it up and running and whizzing through a few different characters which behave and speak in different ways. It's quite fun and gets you interested. But the novelty soon wears off. To unleash it's full potential you need to do some serious coding through the app. It's very reminiscent of the scratch software the kids use at school. With a serious amount of time, patience, and some coding experience, you can unleash it's full potential. So if a robotic toy is what you're after, you may be disappointed. But if your child is into coding or computer science, they will probably love it!

This little robot has been well designed and has great play value. The app makes it seamless to use (you will need a phone or preferably a tablet to interact with the robot). The AI feature is fun - you can "chat" to the robot and play games as well as moving it around or coding it to move or avoid obstacles. We found it really easy to charge and set up - I'm not sure what the purpose of the side bits with "lego" feet on is really and I'd like to know how the accessories might work (they are not included), but overall well designed. It moves well, is robust and we've had a lot of fun playing with it.

Hands up I know nothing about coding , I see the word written and hear it spoken aout, I know it has something to do with computers, after that I am at total loss . So therefore I have let my granddaughters look at it. I have been told it is easy to set up on the App, and touch can get it chatting and doing things , somethings take a bit longer to work out , it have been told that had what coding is all about. It moves around on the floorboards, startling the cats . My son and daughter are impressed with it and say it is worth the money.

I use this in my classroom as the next step from teaching them about programming to showing how their code can be used to program a robot. It is a very child friendly robot and pretty sturdy although I wouldn't advise keeping it off the ground as it can do a crazy Ivan (hunt for the red October reference there for ya) and drive off a table even of you're not controlling it

Had a demonstration of one of the Dash robots and saw the educational potential for this toy. It’s a little bit advanced for the intended audience, but they’ll just get to enjoy it for longer. The Dash is a bumbling droid whereas this seems to be pitched as some kind of robotic super agent?

My 10yr old son loved this. He is having great fun with it. He is learning programming skills with it. Only down side is missing AI feature. This toy does not listen to any command.
