Chase's Distillery is a pretty noble project which aims to create field to bottle, sustainable, single estate (or within a tiny local radius) sourced and produced spirits from the ancestral potato farm in Herefordshire, William's Extra Dry Gin is an exceptionally beautiful product, if not an artisan one. After receiving the exquisite marmalade vodka as a present last year, we were keen to try more of this distillery.William's extra dry gin is distilled from the same Chase vodka they produce on the farm, further distilled with juniper berries to legally make it gin plus more farm or locally sourced botanicals for further flavour. When reading the added botanicals for extra dry it almost sounds like a Christmas bake-off with added cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, almond, coriander, cardamom, cloves, liquorice and lemon, but smells remarkably of the juniper berries and buds added giving an almost 'piney' effect or mossy almost cologne-like quality - as my mother in law said 'a bit like Brut aftershave but in a good way'It is one of the few Gins produced that does not buy in the vodka/plain spirit from other sources meaning this has the same quality spirit as their award winning vodka, further pursuing the field to bottle ethos. Our tasters tried this both neat and with two different types of tonic water (supermarket own and a posh one) and all remarked on how smooth and pleasant it was to drink even neat with many saying they couldn't do that with the widely-offered brands, there was the pleasant warmth without an acrid or overpowering burn or bitterness. With tonic water the botanicals were somewhat subdued by the quinine/flavourings in the cheaper version but was beautifully flavoured and pleasant to drink whether with budget or posh, which really marks it as a great gin that it stands up to whatever quality or type of mixer, though hands down everyone said the posher one made the drink more special. This isn't a gin for the light hearted, it is full flavoured and the spicier botanicals pack a heartier punch than those used to whisper-light but very floral gins, it is very 'green' on the nose but is an outstanding quality and flavoursome gin. Some might prefer a more floral brand, but if you like a dry gin with flavour we would heartily recommend this one. This gin was tested by those currently able to drink in the family (plus a few visitors!) and the review collated from their comments and opinions, but I had a good sniff of the neat product too and it is very green and herbal.

Although whisk(e)y is my usual spirit of choice I do enjoy a G&T from time to time. Our drinks cabinet usually had some Beefeater or Bombay Sapphire tucked away but this year we have become a bit more adventurous with our gin selection and have added some Penderyn Brecon Botanicals from the Welsh distillery best known for it's whisky, some Sipsmith from London and also some Monkey 47 from the distillery in the German Black Forest. I was pleased to be invited to try this Great British Extra Dry Gin from the William Chase Distillery in Herefordshire as I had previously tried their strong Elegant Gin which is produced on site from their own cider apples.I am still unsure about the apple based gin but this Extra Dry is more to my taste but is potato based rather than the more common grain based gins. The spirit is re-distilled to add the botanicals which include cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, almond, coriander, cardamom, cloves, liquorice and lemon which ensure a distinct and robust gin flavour. This Williams Chase GB Gin is a superior gin that is obviously produced by people who care about their products. It is produced in a small Carter-Head Still affectionately named “Ginny”, and it is presented in an attractive bottle which has a label with details of the batch number and vintage and a little Union Jack bow-tie around it's neck . As for the gin itself it is definitely one gin drinkers will want to try for themselves – if you have not tried Fever Tree tonic I would suggest that it compliments the Williams GB gin perfectly, but perhaps also try with your regular tonic for a proper comparison with your usual gin and Williams also suggest trying a bit of ginger – didn't quite work for me though! With Christmas just around the corner your drinks cabinet may need a bit of restocking – if you want a gin that will be a bit of a talking point amongst your guests then this Williams GB Gin would be ideal. I much prefer it to the stronger (48%) Williams Elegant Gin that I have been drinking recently, the GB is the more usual 40% strength, and although not grain based is more like a high quality traditional gin. At around thirty quid for a 70cl bottle it is not the cheapest gin by any means but is very distinctive and may be my current favourite. Five stars – and I hope I still have some left at Christmas or I may have to buy another bottle!

I have recently discovered gin and all the complexities (formerly a bit of a cognac connoisseur).Having sampled over two dozen of what are considered to be the best gins, I keep coming back to this one. Don't be too swayed by gin reviews as when it comes to gin, the taste is very subjective and a gin I like will taste disgusting to someone else.. Just try them yourself. The reason I like this one is it has probably got what I would think of as the most classic gin taste. It has a very distinct flavour and I think very strong coriander and juniper overtones. I've tried with several versions but most like a G & T made with plenty of homemade cracked ice, fever tree tonic and garnished with a couple of strands of real Spanish saffron (don't skimp) and a green cardamom pod (worth dry heating in a frying pan to help release some of the oils). After a little while, the saffron infuses and slightly colours the liquid.Other excellent gins in order of preference are - Berry Bros No 3 (another classic), Tanquery no 10 (similar to No 3), Martin Millars (very floral, the wife likes it with Elderflower) and finally, Gin Mare (although this one is TOTALLY different to any other Gin you will taste (made with olives, rosemary, sage, etc.!).

I have been a Hendrick's man since I first started enjoying G&T's five or so years ago. Nothing else has ever quite matched up (though Durham Gin has been a very close second) that is until I tried this gin. It has a crisp and bright flavor, with a heady aroma of juniper and other botanicals along with a slight hint of apple. Just describing it makes me want to go make myself another one . . .From the packaging (love the aesthetics of the bottle and the addition of the awesome bow-tie which makes each bottle a ready-made gift), to the aroma, to the flavor, this is a premium gin experience and it is worth savoring. My favorite mix with this gin so far is the standard: Fever Tree tonic with a couple slices of cucumber. All the other options I tried (i.e. Fentiman's ginger beer, or a splash of Edinburgh Elderflower liquer, to name just a couple) masked the gin's flavor behind the more powerful ginger or elderflower flavors. While I didn't enjoy these other mixes nearly as much, they did help me to realize just how good the gin's flavor actually is.If you're a fan of gin, Williams Great British Extra Dry is not to be missed.

This is a deliciously smooth, crisp but yet creamy gin, with a unique and sophisticated taste. Of course it tastes like gin, and the evocative fragrance of juniper is there from the first smell as you open the bottle. But there is a complex mixture of spice notes which work their way into each taste, hinting at a gentle warmth and sweetness which makes this gin very special indeed.I'm happy with both the popular brand of tonic or the premium alternative and found both work well - I'd advise to choose your tonic to your taste and not worry too much about it - this gin carries itself beautifully. I do recommend though that the gin and mixers are as chilled as possible. This really brings out the full flavour. If also recommend your slice (apple or lime are my favourites but lemon works well, as does a thin sliver of fresh ginger) has been pre-frozen too as this adds flavour without dilution. At only 40% it's not the strongest gin you can buy, but the flavour and intensity ensure that a smaller measure is all you need for a delicious drink.A truly delightful gin, very special indeed. Highly recommended.

This is an extremly nice drop! The minute you pop the cork you just get wafts of the most sublime aromas.I'm loving it three ways - G&T, neat and in a martini. It makes a stupendous G&T. You wouldn't want to mix a gin this good with anything other than Fevertree tonic. Over ice with a slice of lime it just sends me into raptures. There are numerous botanicals in the gin but I find the coriander really comes out with tonic. I also tried the suggestion they had on the label of making a G&T with a slice of fresh ginger added. Didn't work for me at all. I'll stick to lime thanks. The gin is so fragrant and smooth that its very nice to sip neat. Super chilled perhaps even out of the freezer. And shaken with ice and a dash of Noilly Prat, served with a twist of citrus peel - a fragrant and satisfying martini cocktail. This really is a very special gin, and worth every penny. Highly recommend.

I managed to snag it when it was on offer - around the £30 mark. It's an absolutely wonderful refreshing drink with very natural flavour and works very well with standard fever-tree tonic. However, at full price (nearer £40) it just seems a bit much. I could maybe get behind it if it had a higher ABV of around 47-48% although even then I think £35 would be pushing it.This gin would be in my regular rotation if it was under £30 as it really is one of the best ones. That being said, there are some gems out there which pack more of a punch, for a more pocket-friendly cost such as No. 3 and even Tanqueray Rangpur.Highly recommended, but not at full price!

One of my favourite flavoured gins. I just cant stop at one, so a bottle doesn't last me long! Its so refreshing and moreish. You can really taste the grapefruit without having to mix a triple or bigger measure, as I find with my favourite warners rhubarb gin. My other halfs recent order for my christmas present was allegedly smashed by Yodel (really cant believe this judging by how well my first bottle was packaged!!), so Im a bit gutted, but Im sure I'll treat myself again soon.

Thought this might be a nice twist on the usual gin and tonic - I love the flavour of bitter oranges in lots of different things and this certainly didn't disappoint. You get the smooth taste of the gin first, followed by a very subtle undertone of the bitter orange - not enough to be intrusive, but just enough to add that extra 'something'. Hope they continue to produce this for a long time to come because it may just be too difficult to go back to ordinary gin after this!!!

I absolutely love this gin. The smell and flavour are just amazing. I really can smell juniper, pomelo and pink grapefruit in even proportion! None is overpowering. So delicious. I find it tastiest with Mediterranean tonic. Although with aromatic is not too bad too. I add pink grapefruit and juniper berries, on the cooler day I add 1-2 cardamom pods in too. But, honestly, adding nothing would be just as nice. Absolute favourite.

The trouble with the Gin revolution, is that it doesnt really live up to that. We have an explosion of new Gins, but most can't hold a candle to even the old staples of Gordon's or Tanqueray. How refreshing to find a gin that challenges the norm, and gives us a really different flavour to that which we are used to. Heavy on Juniper, but well balanced with other botanicals, this is very good indeed. Highly recommended.

For years my gin preferences have been for Beefeater, with Gordon's second. None of the many newer gins have quite made the grade, but this one has done it and supplanted both. I was given a bottle a few months back but have now ordered my third (I blame the hot summer, perfect for G&Ts). This gin has such an unusually refreshing, clean and bright taste that really lifts the G&T into a new realm. I love it!

The best gin I've ever tasted! Rhubarb gins seem to be trending lately, and this one blew me away. I could honestly have drunk it neat over ice (with a little dilution), but of course went with a ginger ale tonic. Sadly this was just a one off experience as a (work paid for) lunch time tipple. Too expensive for me to buy a bottle myself, and loses a star for the cost.

I do not like Gin but my husband is a fan. I bought him a gin tasting kit for Christmas and it happened to have Williams Great British Extra Dry Gin in it. I had a small taste and loved it so much I bought a full size bottle for my husband and I. Not cheap but it is worth it as a treat. It is lovely. I tried it with watermelon and cucumber tonic which was amazing.

I think this might be my new favourite gin. No crazy flavours just a solid London dry gin but with juniper dialled up to 11. The finish is beautifully smooth and the taste lingers on the palate for a good 30 seconds or so.I imagine this is a bit of a marmite gin - if you have a savoury palate you'll love it, if you prefer fruitier styles maybe look elsewhere.
