Got the large bee second hand for a steal at £3, as I already had a small blue car wheelie bug from a similar company given to me and knew that was already too small for (at the time) my 17 month old, 90th percentile girl, who was about 84cm tall with average leg length but long torso. Her knees were bent on the small one but I think looking back, she perhaps just hadn't fully got the hang of pushing on these things.I've found on a similar Scramblebug ride-on she has that she now rides that much better at 22 months than at 14 months and enjoys it now, calling it her bike but she wasn't ready for that at 1.There are more age appropriate gifts for a one year old in my opinion but it depends on when they start walking. My LG was 13 months and was wobbly for a month or so but my friend's daughter walked at 11 months so would have fit a small one for longer. I'd look at second hand options for small ones, as they're too expensive for a few months use.The large bee is more for a two plus year old's birthday/Christmas I'd say and my LG now fits nicely on it at 22 months with years of fun to be had!The bee shape is nice with a flat saddle compared to the lady bird, which looks more humped and uncomfortable. The construction is hardy and I know this as mine was second hand and has obviously been well loved but the caster's still work great and the wood, whilst dented and knocked is holding up great. The problem is the vinyl cover. This one is probably 5 years old and went through two children and it has split and cracked badly. So badly that the last owner used yellow duck tape to seal it up but it started peeling soon after I bought it, just by my LG sitting on it. I went in the living room and thought someone had trampled mud all over but soon realised it was black and yellow latex vinyl, which would be awful of she'd put any in her mouth! So the other day I thought "'sod it', sayonara bee!" and used a knife to scrap the whole bee design off, leaving the material base that covers the foam. It actually looks like a basic panda or zebra now but it came off with about 40 mins work. I plan to either repaint it with latex fabric paints, or make a faux fur cover for it from and animal print with an elasticated skirt to hold it on and might add some friendly eyes this time.So in summation, I recommended the large bee, especially if you enjoy upcycling!

Quite simply the best toy ever. I bought this for my son at 12 months. It has been in almost daily use for 5 years since then, now mostly by his baby sister (19 months) but he still has a spin on it when he can (although he's far too big now). Both children started using it backwards, pushing it about like a brick trolley, and progressed to clambering over it and sliding off, before using it 'properly' and sitting astride, propelling themselves with their feet. They can get up quite a speed, and it is very easy to control, having castors instead of wheels. This is just so superior to the bright plastic (often electronic) ride-on toys that most children are bought, and lasts a lot longer. It has been wee'd on, had all sorts of unpleasant substances all over it, been crashed at speed into the furniture and been ridden inside and outdoors, yet is so sturdy it looks as good as new. It's an absolute classic that I think no home should be without. The perfect gift for any 1 year old, and for years to come. Ours is really just another member of the family now. (Incidentally from a parent's point of view it also looks much nicer in your home than the cheap plastic rubbish you normally see!)

Having researched into the ideal present for my son's first birthday, I decided to purchase the ladybird wheelybug. I liked the idea of a robust, fun, but practical toy that will last for several years (hopefully!), and love the idea that it isn't manufactured out of plastic like so many other toys on the market. However, although my son is 'average' size for his age, I decided to buy the large version after reading other reviews and wanting something to last more than a year or so.Already the wheelybug is his favourite toy, and he crawls around everywhere with it - as well as using it to practice standing up. I can see this being a firm favourite as it is cute looking and something that a baby/toddler can play with at different stages of development. There seems to be no problem with using it on carpet, although I assume it travels faster on laminate!?Worth every penny - and in my opinion, the perfect present for a one year old! Extremely pleased with purchase and would definitely recommend. Suggest purchasing large size though to gain maximum useage.

This little ride-on is very robust and well worth paying a bit more for than the plastic alternatives, most of which have a steering wheel or handle bars that are fixed, so that the rider can only go backwards or forwards. Fitted with castors, this little ride-on can go in any direction. The thing that perhaps we were not ready for was a "learning curve" for the younger rider. You and I, as adults can see that what you do is sit on the thing, hold on to the loop and propel yourself with your feet in the direction that you want to go, but I have to admit that this concept was not easy for our 1-year old grand-daughter to grasp as a first-time experience. The plastic variety that involve an element of balancing, would surely have been more of a challenge however. This toy will last for years or until our grand-daughter tires of it and wants something more complex - whichever occurs the sooner. In the meantime it represents a sound play investment.

I purchased the Small Wheelybug for my child when he was 9 months old. At the time I was in a muddle over which size to order and I am glad I choose the small one. If I had choosen the larger one, he would have been much older before he could use it properly himself and there is no fun in that !!! My nearly 3 year old still uses the small version daily and he is big for his age.He loved it straight away. As he got older he pushed it by the handle and then went to sitting on it and to whizzing around the house. He is nearly 3 years now and quite tall for his age but still is comfortable whizzing around on the small version. It was been used nearly every day during the last 2 and a half years. It is really well built and the fact that it is on casters makes it easy for the little ones to manoeuvre out of the corners.Highly Recommend. One of the best toys I have every bought !

Our little one loves this and I love it too! It looks great, it moves in all directions and is low enough for tiny legs whilst being strong enough to support her increasing size. Even before she was able to use this toy as a ride on, she used to like to push it along using the handle. She also loved to play with the antenna as a smaller baby. The wheelybug is really well made with high quality material. The wheels move in all directions... a bit like a fancy suitcase. This makes it well able to withstand the erratic movements of toddlers learning to walk. We have loved using our inside on our tiled and wooden floors and also outside during warmer months.Older children are very drawn to this too and we hope she will continue to use it as she grows - she is two now and shows no time of stopping any time soon!

This toy was literally delivered TODAY - for my daughters 2nd birthday which isn't until tuesday. However she already opened the box and did the puppy dog eyes and said "please mummy. buzzy bee?" how could I resist! There was NO assembly which I was pleasantly surprised by, we just unwrapped and it was ready to go. My daughter already loves it - I purchased the large one which was smaller than I expected so if your child is toward the back end of the age 'limit' I would definitely get a large one. I live in a fairly open plan, minimal flat, with hard floor throughout which is perfect for the wheelybug to ride along on smoothly. It is better than any other ride-on toy we've ever had it truely does go every direction!I would definitely reccomend this product from what I have seen so far.

We bought this for our son's first birthday, thinking it might help him with his balance and boost his confidence to walk. We also picked this brand because of its reputation for being sturdy & qualitative, and this design because it is not too massive compared to other models. After one month, our son doesn't use the Bee as a ride-on, but as a walker! He will push it around the living room again and again. Sometimes on his knees, sometimes bent over it. We are not disappointed by the look and quality of the Wheelybug either, it is nice and solid indeed.Note that Size 1 is quite small and I don't think that our son will be able to use it for a very long time, which is why I am not giving this toy five stars but only four!

Robust and a lot of fun (as it can go in any direction on its castors - much better than things that have to be steered with a steering wheel). We've got a big one which has been used for wild racing and crashing round the house. And it's irresistible - for the whole time we've had one of these in our hallway, any time a child comes into the house, they ride it. (Even children who are far too big for it and who you'd think would be past such things!) We're about to get a mini one (we've only got a big one so far) for our littlest child, who is really too small to sit on the big one. (Shh! Don't tell him, though - it's his Christmas present!)

What a lovely, beautifully made toy! Colours are gorgeous, finish is sleek and durable. I especially appreciated the small size. Got it for my baby when he was just over 1 year old and didn't walk yet. Wasn't sure if this would be completely safe for him but I didn't need to worry. He instinctively knew how to sit/move and hold onto the toy. 6 months on, he walks but still really enjoys riding on his bee and chooses to play with it most days. Despite that, the quality is so good that it looks completely brand new. I think this toy would stay in family for generations! Highly recommended.

Received my Wheelybug really quickly to Ireland in the Xmas rush and it looks a fantastic little wheeler!I wanted something that was a little bit different for baby's first Xmas and this really is very different than your normal plastic ride-on toy that can be found anywhere.A lot smaller than I was expecting but I can see my little man having a blast on it when he gets bigger! It definitely looks like the type of children's toy that will last with time and you will look back on it in the attic in 20 years time. Can't wait 'til my baby gets a little bigger to use it!

Bought as a first birthday present for our daugter. She is smaller than all her friends, but could still reach the floor and was able to ride it (backwards for some reason?), on her birthday. It works well on carpet as well as tiles, which is great news, and the bar at the front is high enough that she also uses it as a steerable walker. Oh, and she loves the deely-bopper antennae.Quality seems very high indeed - it's not cheap, but I do think I got what I paid for.Glad we bought the smaller size - it's not so small that she'll grow out of it quickly.

The wheelybug is simple and well made and our 18 month old son loves scooting around on it. The wheels give a smooth ride on our laminate flooring with minimal legwork from the rider. It's cushioned seat is comfortable for your little one to sit on and is easy to clean if you need to.With hindsight I would have gone for the larger model as he already looks too big for his current one which supposedly is for upto three years old but overall a quality product that I would recommend to all.

I just love the look of this ride-on Wheelybug Bee and had to buy one for my 6 month old grandson's first Christmas. He has shown a lot of interest in the castor type wheels (they spin round) and the antennae (they go boing) and he held on tight to the handle when being helped to do a test drive. Sadly his little 6 month old legs don't yet reach the ground. However I am sure that all in good time he will be as pleased with this toy as is his grandmother.
