I haven't had this long so I'll point that out first just so you know.I am impressed, 1TB is a ton of space to fit on this little thing. It's not much bigger than my phone & can easily fit inside my pocket. The quality of it too feels solid, so I would be comfortable taking this around with me.With USB 3.0 too, I've reached a few hundred Mbps transfer speeds even while encrypted. And to point out, I never used the encrypted software that came with it. I used my own encryption methods (Truecrypt). So far I have nothing bad to say about it.The worst part of it all is the short wire, it's around 40cm or so which isn't super bad but if you want to position the drive in a nice spot on your desk youmight need a 3.0 USB extension (Which are cheap anyway)I don't know why there have been so many bad reviews over this, if you know how to look after your hardware properly I'm sure you'll be fine. But then again it might pack up some day, I'll try to remember to come back after some time & let you know if it's still working etc.

I purchased this item from amazon to accompany my WD Live HD receiver for my networkCurrently all my digital music and films from DVD are stored onto a NAS drive in the main front room but i wanted to store onto my WD Live Locally and free up some spaceThe drive when connected is realizable and works very well i have stored most of my films so far onto the drive (around 400 films) so i can watch in bed my horror or comedy selections or catch up to shows i save onto the network at home the speeds are fair no buffering so far has happened on playback of files and the prices were also very cheaper then P.c world which were very larger in prices from research which i would not recommend (i recommendgetting it here at amazon and considering getting another 2 more soon to attach to my router for more streaming in my home)it also arrived in good time and would recommend it as a back up drive or a drive for any media players.

I didn't buy this from Amazon as PC World had this on a great deal but I can highly recommend this product, I'm not the best with computers and wanted something I could just plug in and use. It comes with software on the hard drive but I decided not to install it which wasn't an issue whilst using it, I simply plugged it into my laptop and transferred all my movies and music, it worked the same when plugging it into my media player (OiPlay purchased from Amazon) I just plugged it in and after a few minutes reading all my data I was away watching films. It's a very simple but effective product and would recommend it to anyone wanting to save/transfer and watch movies. It's a tiny device and weighs next to nothing,it has a small white LED that flashes when in use, it fits nicely and discretely next to the TV, the cord that comes with it isn't that long but good enough for what I need, any longer and it would look too messy.

It's a great buy! First of all you can see that the hard disk is made of high quality material and it also looks quite stylish from the outside. The software itself is very fast and works perfectly with Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8 as far as I know. Moreover the hard disk offers a few programmes that are very helpful. It has a programme that offers constant back up but it can slow down your pc considerably. Also it offers a utility programme that checks the functionality of the hard disk which can be very convenient in case you want to check whether everything works fine with it. Last but not least it offers a password protection if you want to give access only to people that know this password, though be careful because once you forget this password there is NO WAY that WD can help you unlock the hard disk. All in all I always like WD products and I will definitely recommend this one. Excellent quality for excellent price!

The form factor of these drives is different from the older designs (like the shiny piano black 250Gb Passport I've still got kicking around), and isn't prone to finger prints. I deleted the bundled software as soon as I had it attached.. so can't comment on that :) Windows 7 picked up some WD driver update soon after I'd had it & I'm not sure what that fixes.Performance was okay (over USB 2), but didn't blow me away.. wasn't expecting much & I'm happy with it as is. The cable is a little stiff; I guess some of the USB3 wiring beefs it up a bit. I've not got a USB3 compatible PC to test it out with, but I'm not really that bothered.Does what it says on the tin and gives you about 930Gb of space when it's NTFS formatted (which is how it gets delivered).Hoping the 2 I've bought will last as long as the older WD drive I have.. if they don't I'll re-visit this review :-D

This drive is exactly what I was after! Having previously owned LaCie Rikiki 500Gb USB 2.0, I was tempted to get something larger and faster but still portable.General:To be honest the only difference with my LaCie drive is that LaCie is little bit thinner and has aluminium enclosure whilst this is plastic. However, it's somewhat lighter and better looking.Drive comes with good size USB 3.0 cable and is pre-formatted for Windows. Anyway, to format for a MAC takes literally 10 seconds using built-in Disk Utility.Performance:Used BlackMagic Disk Speed Test on my MacBook Air (2012) and had 110MB/s WRITE and 115MB/s READ on file sizes 1-5GB.On Windows it was around the same speed using CrystalMark.I'm more than happy with these results and drive's overall price/performance ratio.Definitely recommended!

I needed this, because being a student artist requires me to create so many art files, photos, essays, literally GBs of storage every few months gets taken up. However since buying this hard drive, I've not needed to buy small usb drives anymore to store stuff on, it's decluttered finding things, I have been able to store every file that I have ever had on it. There was just one issue, I needed to use this Hard drive in both Macs and windows computers as my college only uses Macs, so the hard drive could not be recognized by macs. My tutor solved the issue for me by reverting to an older format that fits both Windows and Macs, and the format he set made it work for connected to my android tablet as well.So just be cautious when considering what computer you have.

I bought this Hard Drive for my macbookpro laptop. It has been good so far, no problems with connections. Quite light and handy to pack it with my laptop. When I connected the HD to my laptop it asked me to reformat it to fat32, so I did. My files are big (but not exceeding 4GB), so it was easy to make back ups. I also connected this to back up information from a server (which had linux operating system), and as well, there were no problems making back ups. The HD has a very fast speed for passing files, however it might be limited to the speed capacity of the USB hub in the computer it is connected to. I keep pictures here and also, no problems connecting it to an x-box machine to visualise in the TV.I haven't connected it to a windows machine yet.

This drive was great when used as a backup, when restoring the OS on my laptop, and worked like a dream, truly plug in and play. The quick delivery meant that I was pleasantly surprised by the arrival of the hard drive upon my door. The drive has good read/write speeds in USB 2.0, the same that any other USB 2.0 drive would deliver. The drive is extremely quiet and cool to touch after a couple of hours of copying 100's of GB's of data to it.I have not yet tested out the USB 3.0 features on the drive due to the fact that I do not have a compatible USB 3.0 computer.Overall this hard drive is great for all your needs, from using it as a backup, expanding storage space, or as a big USB stick.

The western digital 1tb passport portable hard drive is very small, smaller than i thought it was going to be and as it is powered using the usb port it is very easy to take on trips as it doesn't take a lot of room up.The speeds are pretty good, but my laptop is old so couldn't really say how good they are on newer computers probably better as mine is connected to a usb 3 express card.Ive had no problems connecting this hard drive to my samsung tv, finds the files quick and plays pretty fast too.The only issue i have is sometimes it doesn't get recognized by my laptop but once again that might be because it is an old laptop.

This product is brilliant. I'v used it on my mac for time machine back ups and it worked flawlessly (after re format for it to work on mac) it is also absolutely silent, it dose vibrate slightly but the only time you could notice this is if you have you hand on it (you dont even feel any vibrations on the table etc just the hardrive). The fact that it is also USB 3.0 and self powered is useful (but i would like to see a thunder bold version as they are about 10 times faster than USB 3.0). All in all it is one of the best Hard drive out there, stylish, silent and cheap. Its good all round.

I purchased this drive after seeing others with this drive. This drive works well and holds a lot of data. I would recommend this for a backup drive or travel storage.I would of given it 5 star but sadly, when this drive is connected to other devices like dvd/bluray /xbox the drive is not picked up, and in all formats, FAT,FAT32,NTFS,exFAT etc. The drive does not want to be read by these devices. I can only presume its something to do with the power outage and the drive can be fully powered correctly. But it works well with all PC's and laptop fine so small issue but it works.

This is a very good product and compact. Plug it in and it backs ups files automatically so you don't have to worry about loosing a document. Then unplug it at the end of a session and put it away somewhere safe. The only issue I had was with the short cable provided which didn't work properly in the usb 3.0 socket aftert the initial installation. It worked fine in the slower usb 2.0 socket however. Reviews of the product seen elsewhere day this is a typical problem so maybe this is a cable issue as I then bought a longer cable from another source and have had no problems since.

I bought this drive to use with my ultra-book. At 1 TB it's gives me loads of space for music, photos and films. USB3 is very very fast meaning you can transfer full HD films in seconds but if your machine is only USB 2 it's still pretty quick too. It's very quiet and is nice and light making it perfect for people who travel frequently. WD is a trusted name in the storage industry and I've never had a WD device fail me after 10 years of using them. If you're trying to decide which TB device to get I think this is the smart choice even if it's sightly more expensive.

I bought this drive to back up my photo & music files and I'm very satisfied with it. It does exactly what it states, easy to set up, I didn't bother with the included software having read of possible problems that other users experienced. (For backup I used free software from the internet which works just fine). Just plugged the drive in and it was there to use in seconds. Fast data transfer even though connected to a USB2 port. I'm so pleased with it I intend to buy another soon to enable me to store all my photo files on one and music & data on the other.
