This is a review of the 2TB variant of the WD Black P10 game drive. In the box there is the unit itself, a simple instruction guide, warranty leaflet and a USB to microUSB-B variant cable. The micro connector is a bit of a strange one with micro-USB port B connector and then a smaller next to it. My WD Elements HD has a similar cable. The drive itself is contained in a housing that is half metal and half plastic. A bit of a strange choice. The drive itself announces it is a WD Black drive on the metal part. As I mentioned earlier, you get the strange micro-USB B connector port that fits with the supplied cable. It’s a shame that they didn’t use the USB-C route. The case has a bright white LED status light that dims when it is active.I ran the Crystal Disk Info app and discovered that the drive is a 5400rpm unit. Most 2.5” drives are rated at this speed. Connected to a USB 3.1 port, the hard drive managed to get a read speed of around 131mb/s and write speeds of around the same speed. I’ve attached the Crystal Disk Mark score. Compared to other 2.5” HDD, the results are pretty consistent across the board. Performance wise I couldn’t really grumble as this is after a mechanical disk drive. It worked well with the Xbox One without any issues either. At no time did it get hot.In terms of an all-in-one solution for carrying your gaming/video/music data, this looks like a good solution. However, would £90 seem a tad expensive especially when there is only a years’ warranty on the unit? If there was a longer warranty I would probably buy it.

Yes, It is a little more expensive than the other HDDs but with this HDD you know you're paying for the quality.I've always used Seagate and honestly they are sufficiently good enough. They do what they are supposed to do. But possibly 99% of all Seagate HDDs work perfectly and then there is that 1% that doesn't or that 1% that Plays up. I have had a couple of Seagate items that have had problems. It is usually the small connector where the usb/hdmi port on the HDD itself buggars up and you can no longer access you main catalogue of games or music. Which lets face it is a major worry/hassle. So from now on I am going to spend a little bit more to have better quality metal work on the port of the HDD.The strength of the metal is much better. Probably thicker and welded better so it doesn't just mangle up or fall off completely.YEP, it's Western Digital for me from now on I think. And they look a lot better don't they!? I know it's only aesthetics but I like things to look good as well as work good!! Don't you?

The drive itself is fantastic. Solid and chunky, it comes with its own usb lead. I plugged it into my Hp laptop and it recognised it straight away.My laptop is failing so i bought this to transfer all my documents, pictures, videos and music. I have just over 4 tb of stuff on my laptop and i transferred the whole out in one fell swoop. The entire lot took 6 hours which i thought was very good. I am sure techies could give you a more accurate transfer rate speed, i wasnt really taking any notice, i just left it to do its thing. Please note that this requires access to the mains power all the time to be able to work so is best suited for a desktop, however my laptop is always in the same position on the arm of my sofa so this is sat on my side table doing its thing.I recently bought a 5GB portable drive that cost me £90 so value wise £200 is a bit on the high side, ive seen it for as low as £140 in the sales so keep an eye out.I am really happy with mine and i would buy it again.

I am reviewing the 2TB version of the drive. This came with the drive in the box and plastic enclosure along with the required connecting cable (short but not a massive issue) and brief instruction/warranty booklet.I decided that I needed a little more space to store more of my PS4 library and thought I'd give this a go. It plugs in via supplied USB cable and then its a quick run through of setting in the PS4 menu to make this additional storage available. Thats literally it.The drive itself lights up when its plugged in - so you know its powered and working OK and speed wise its more than fast enough on the PS4 to not notice any detrimental load times etc.I've installed a number of titles on the drive and everyone works just as well as if it were installed onto the local PS4 drive so happy days!At £89.99 at the time of writing this feels reasonably well priced for this size drive (probably paying a tiny premium for the branding/styling etc) but overall feels like good value.

Awesome!Obviously has many uses but for me it's to use as an extended storage for my PS4 PRO.I moved over 2 games with a total size of 226GB which were done in 40 minutes. The drive is fast and does speed up the time to load up the games. It's a fantastic looking ssd and really practical. It's small but looks like it's in a little armoured case. It has four tiny rubber feet to raise it just off of the surface (for that reason you should use it on a hard flat surface). It comes supplied with two short leads, 1 x USB C to USB C and 1 x USB to USB C which are just the perfect length. This really is a serious bit of kit and has some amazing transfer speeds. It's soon going to be the end for hdd as ssd are getting faster, cheaper and bigger in storage size. I'm really impressed, not only with the speed and performance but also with the size and design of this. Being made by WD is the icing on the cake.

SO I bought this and I dont own an xbox. Heres why.Inside the 12tb D10 is a Western Digital DC HC520 drive. I quick google of said drive will reveal this is an enterprise grade drive.Coupled with it being on offer for two hundred notes means that when on offer this is a bargain. I stripped the drive out and gave my nas a handy boost.Bit about it as an external drive. The case is plastic fantastic which is disappointing at this price point. Its chunky though and has a small fan. I'll likely reuse the case with an old drive.Either way the drive that came with it is a beast. Very fast with a low margin of error and built to last. The drives literally run all day every day in data centres so will be more than enough for your games collection. The real limit here on performance is the USB interface. Again perfect for games or as an external drive but a true sata connection sets it free.

I was torn between getting an external ssd which would be quicker but much much smaller, or a larger slower more traditional external drive.I opted for this mainly because of the trust in western digital products and the size. I’m using it on my Xbox one. Works perfectly and I’m glad I went for it over the ssd. Games these days are getting 100gb plus. I’ve got the fastest internet I can get in our area and it still takes ages to download the games so this allows me to keep them for longer without having to re download. When you subscribe to game pass it allows you to just queue up a load of games to play and not worry about space. The games load quick enough for me not to worry about speed. The Xbox really should have come with 4tb as standard.

First of is that, this comes surprisingly good being colored black. It has the usual packaging like most external hard disk does. The build quality is good but you can feel that the actual part isnt as durable as other external hdd. You can press the middle part of the hard disk with your thumb. So avoid pressing it hard as much as you can. Connecting the hard drive is plug and play on my Windows 10 Laptop. Although I have not tried installing competitive games yet but I have tried transferring large files and games on it and it was blazing fast compared to my other hdds. So this is very useful for my gaming laptop and I do no need to upgrade my internal HDD.Its definitely worth the priceconsidering this is aimed for the large files games.

Purchased this hard drive to expand my 1tb Pro.The product comes well packaged, looks the part, well made and is reasonable fast. It connects to your PS4 / device with a standard USB cableI tend to swap current games i'm playing onto my Pro SSD as it's obviously much quicker, but when you have the size of games so large now, an external is a must have to save you from constantly deleting and installing games! The hard drive its nicely next to or on top of your PS4.This would also be compatible with Xbox One, PC or Mac!If you have any comments or questions, please ask. and if you find this review helpful, please let me know :)

"Purpose-built for gamers" according to WD, this 2TB 2.5" 5400RPM mechanical drive is super fast and I'm get read speeds of 125MB/s and write speeds of 115MB/s. On other mechanical stand alone hard drives, I normally gets speeds around the 50MB/s mark. The ribbed black plastic slim-line casing does look cool, affords good protection and is light. It runs silently and keeps relatively cool. You can buy mechanical drives for quite a lot less than this one, but they won't be anywhere near as fast as this. Alternatively, you could spend quite a lot more on an SSD drive. This hard drive is a good compromise between the two.

I am using this 2TB HDD primarily on my laptop PC. So far so good. Read & write speeds are as expected in the low 130's MB/S. It comes with a USB cable but no carry case. The drive itself feels rugged with its metal/plastic outer case. There is a bright white LED indicator on the thin front end of the drive that indicates when the drive is in use. The only reason I have dropped one star from the review is as others have mentioned, the 1 year warranty is a little short for my liking on a device such as this. I would have thought 2 years minimum would have been more attractive to any prospective buyer.

The storage size of this makes it worth a look and the price is definitely good value when you compare it to others available. Then when you use you realise it is worth it and is excellent quality. It is fast and reliable. If you are looking to buy one of these I would say this is better than others I have used. It is also sturdy and will last a long time. You need this if you are a gamer and this has plenty of storage for most needs. It also comes in a good looking box so could make a great gift. The cooling is essential and I found that to be fine. You'll be glad you got this.

Review of the 500 GB model. This is a very neat unit. A little bigger than a credit card and very slim, it is powered via a USB cable (supplied) and sits quietly on my desktop doing its job.Once the USB cable is plugged into the PC (or other device) it is recognised immediately with no connectivity issues, and is ready for upload of files and programs. It is fast both writing and reading, and remains fairly cool in use. Build quality is good, a metal case with four plastic feet so it can sit safely on surfaces.Super-useful: five stars.

I don't get why this is branded at gamers, this is a standard 2TB hard drive running at 140mb/s in a part plastic part metal case. It'll work with your PS4, PC or other console of choice as any other hard drive would.I think WD drives are good quality and would recommend them, however, to me, there's nothing about this that makes it a 'gamer' product other than having half an aluminium casing. If the price is right for a 2TB drive, buy it, if not, buy something like a WD essentials drive, the performance will be the same.

24.12.2019

Like all memory storage devices, the advertised storage space isn't what you get. I'm not sure why they just put a bit of a bigger drive in so you get exactly 8TB, but even at just over 7TB that this has, it is more than enough space.I am currently using this as a hard drive on my PC and it is working really well. It was just plug and play, it is easy to save to and access data from it. As it is a large drive you do need to power it separately, but it has replaced two of my other external hard drives.
