This converter replaces a cartridge in a Watermans fountain pen, and allows you to fill the pen from an ink bottle. The volume held by the converter appears to be just over half that of a long cartridge. It fills completely with the usual twisting method to move the internal plunger. The maths involved depends on the current prices of ink bottles and cartridges, but at present a 2 oz bottle of Watermans ink costs just under twice the cost of a pack of 8 long cartridges. The cartridge pack doesn't state a volume but I would estimate that a bottle of ink is equivalent to about 20 cartridges - 2.5 packs. (If you can see "2 oz" on the product picture for the cartridges, that's because the picture is actually for the ink bottle's box.)So the converter will pay for itself after about 3 ink bottles.Another minor benefit is that you can use ink from other pen manufacturers if the price or colour suits you better. Doubtless they will all tell you that their ink is specially designed for their pens, but a fountain pen is a fountain pen and I doubt very much that anyone could tell the difference between Watermans black ink and black Quink (Parker) or Skrip (Sheaffer). The downside: filling with ink involves a little bit of waste and mess - my Watermans Hemisphere pen had one small drop of ink on the barrel that needed wiping off after filling.

As I prefer to use ink, rather than cartridges, for several reasons, the Waterman pen I have, which only came with one Waterman long cartridge, meant I immediately bought a converter. And this is it. The specific Waterman standard converter for their pens. ObviouslyBut in my opinion, these 'quality brands' ought to be providing converters as standard. Aren't we all really bound to use/waste as little plastic as possible? Of course the converter itself is plastic. But it isn't single use. So a pen and converter will contribute to far less landfill and carbon emission than hundreds of cartridges over the years.Plus, I rather like the old fashioned ritual of drawing up ink from the bottle. Not to mention the jollier aesthetics of having several bottles of differently coloured inks so I can ring the changes as I please, and even, with a bit of twiddling and fiddling make brand new colours on each refillCuriously - or not - the cheaper -this is just a bit of fun appearance Jinhao pens - I have a few, to take out, as it wouldn't be so crushing if I lost one - all come WITH converter on board. Probably because Jinhao are not also ink brand manufacturers.Rant over. Converter works, as expected. Let filling comnence

I have two Waterman pens that I regularly use and (after trialling one) have had a converter in both for the past 3 years. The bottles of ink work out cheaper than cartridges and with the cost of the converter factored in it's only a couple of bottles or so before you've made a saving. That's if the cost of ink is the issue, which for me it wasn't especially. There's something satisfying (if antiquated) about refilling a fountain pen, and it makes it somehow complete in a way that a pen that takes cartridges is not. As for the function of the pen, well it remains essentially the same, although the converter's volume is less than that of a cartridge so you'll find yourself refilling morefrequently; it's a process that requires a bit of time and a steady hand so may not always be convenient. It never fails to attract curious and amused glances from anyone in the vicinity, as obviously it's a rather quaint or even bizarre thing to be spotted doing these days, but if you can live with that then I recommend it.

With the concern of throwaway plastic, a converter for your fountain pen is a much more eco-friendly way of inking it, and with a greater capacity of ink inside.Converters are easy to use - simply plug into your pen, dip the nib into the ink so it's completely submerged and twist the end to draw up ink. There will be an air gap left. Then gently tap off any excess ink and wipe your pen clean. Job done.Converters aren't cheap but they are long lasting and combined with a bottle of decent ink (e.g. the waterman, cross or Parker inks) are a cheaper and more eco-friendly way of using fountain pens in the long run than disposable cartridges. If you've got a waterman fountain pen and want to save on ink costs and reduce throwaway plastic, look no further.

An inexpensive alternative to purchasing endless numbers of cartridges, although having one or two available as spares (or a second pen) can be useful and safer than refilling from a bottle when most inconvenient. A 50ml bottle of ink should provide about 60 or more refills at a fraction of the price. A filler can last for years and be refilled almost endlessly.Be aware that, based upon other brands of pen using similar systems although relatively new to Waterman as a brand, the internal seal may eventually fail which will cause ink to leak from the base of the filler. Fortunately, the fillers are currently freely available.

I ordered one of these to replace its predecessor in the same Waterman fountain pen, from a few years earlier. The 'glass' had cracked and was leaking. Also, if you don't use the converter for a while, the piston can stick and is tricky to free if you didn't wash it out. Amazon couldn't source the replacement for a while, so I bought cartidges, which got me thinking. If you used a syringe on the ink bottle, you caould keep one of those cartridges going for a long time. The old type Parker convertors seem to last forever, but the fitting is completely different. Then my order popped through the letterbox!

In a previous career I received a Waterman pen for giving 10 years of service - ten wasted years you might say, but hell it was a nice pen. For many years it sat unloved at the back of my desk drawer, but recently I realised I could use it as a red ink pen to contrast the black ink from my main ink fountain pen. Previously I'd used cartridges but I bought this converter refill because I want to use bottled inks and am happy to say it fits my pen perfectly.Out of interest, I've been mixing two gorgeous red inks - Pelikan Edelstein Garnet which doesn't seem to be on sale on Amazon at the moment, and

These were originally intended for the long defunct Lady Waterman series and followed the C/F pattern although slimmer and of slightly reduced capacity - they do not fit current Watermans which accept some 'Universal' cartridges and fillers. Although the C/F models can theoretically accept cartridges, the C/F type have been out of production for years and this filler is the only remaining means to fill the pens unless you can find an original cartridge that may be refilled. If you have one of the pens, it may be worthwhile purchasing a spare while you can.

This is an excellent standard converter. It allows you to fill your pen from a bottle of ink rather than using cartridges. For me this appears to give a better ink flow and allows me to write smoother for longer.Bottle of ink is only a couple of pounds but will last several years, much longer than if you spent the same amount of cash on cartridges. This standard converter and fix my water and pen perfectly, there is absolutely no leaks whatsoever.A Buy with confidence this is an excellent Standard converter for Waterman pens.

As I like using coloured ink, and waterman's coloured ink cartridges can be quite expensive, i decided to to purchase this convertor. (Cannot understand that I have such an expensive waterman's pen which does not come with a standard convertor).I must say, the bottle ink in this convertor last longer, and there is a better flow than the cartridges. Sometime the ink in the cartridge can be old so does not give a good flow. Very happy with this change over. I don' t think I will be going back to cartridges.

This really is a fantastic product to compliment my waterman fountain pen. It's easy to use, just dip the nib into a bottle of ink and turn the dial at the top. I've used this constantly for several months now and not once has there been any leakage in the barrel of the pen. It connects snugly and securely inside the pen and I am confident that it will remain this way. Great product, and means I don't constantly have to buy new cartridges. Brilliant!

A push-in type converter with a "twist to fill" action. I prefer a screw in but these are rare and not available for my Waterman Expert.Simple enough and better quality than the average pump action converters. That said, very slightly more expensive than say Parker - or other generic converters. Often does not fill to the very top.[Many push-in converters are interchangeable]

When this ink converter arrived, I promptly slotted it into my pen and inked it up. The twist action is a little stiff but once it is moving is pleasantly smooth. This feels more expensive than a comparable LAMY converter and has a more pleasant action and aesthetic. It does the job well, and that's all that there is needed to be said about it really.

in one colour so this is why I bought this Convertor.I have Waterman Inks in Green and Purple and am just about to remove the cartridge that came with the fountain pen and fill the Convertor with Purple Ink.It's easy to do.........you just twist the top of the Convertor and then draw the ink up.Voila, job done.

I'm pleased I found this converter for Waterman CF type pens. It's made of metal and feels quite robust. It's different to current Waterman converters and gives a new lease of life to CF pens. Despite being a smaller diameter than the original silver metal converters that came with CF pens, these still fit.
