The play is good, the graphics are fine, the elements are very much D&D like, and therefore, I do like it. It is fairly tough though, even on easy. Some interesting aspects I like the most. In Civ the barbarians regenerate all over the map on occasion, and the equivalent here (were rats, wolves, imps, etc.) do the same, but there is a difference. They will create camps, and if you don't wipe them out, they will keep making more animals to attack you. Another difference is there are a number of creatures in the ocean you will have to deal with... squids, giant fish, sea dragons, etc. I suppose you could compare that to the rogue ships in Civ, but these are more interesting for sure, and aggressive too!(and when wounded, often they will run off so they can heal up and come back)There are gates to other worlds in this game. Warning for sure because when you go through one, you better be prepared, and you should have several units to follow you because the critters in the other world will immediately attempt to obliterate you.The music in the game is pretty nice. There are heroes that you can equip goodies with, that make them very formidable.I got this game fairly inexpensively because I bought the DVD which was about 1/2 the price of the download. What's the point in downloads if they cost twice as much as real, manufactured product??? Anyway, because this game uses Steam, in this particular install, it did not load from the DVD... Steam just asked for the license number and it installed from their site with the latest version.Bottom line, it's a good game to add to your collection if you like turn-based games, and games that have elves, dragons, monsters of all sort and shape in them.

Never liked civ games as they take way to long to finish and to much management, but I liked this one. It's some kind of a mix between a tuned down Civilization and Age of wonders. The alternate worlds present in the game are a bit obsolete though, as you mostly win on your own world before you are strong enough to venture to the alternate worlds where you can find the best resources. Besides you have to handle your opponents, you have to deal with neutral monster parties who also keep your opponents busy. It can sometimes take you off balance or give you the upper hand against an opponent. Nice touch. Recommended.

This game reminds me a bit of civ 5 or HOMM 4 with hex grids and is a typical explore and exploit war game with turn based mechanics. The graphics are nice and the fantasy units are cool. There are 3 different factions and loads of unit types however the rules are poorly described and there isn't the same diplomacy angle as civ. nevertheless this is a pretty cheap and fun old school game if you like the genre.

This is the diet version of the game Civilization, put into a fantasy world and that is not a bad thing.
