or Goodbye George?I've used George Foreman grills for many years, especially liking the Grill and Melt versions, of which I currently have one of the smaller models.I bought this James Martin Griddle mainly to have the option of table-top cooking when entertaining, but have been quite taken with it's open flat plate design and the ability to cook different things at the same time. Also, although the ribbed section has fat drainage holes (to a neat integrated drip tray) the grilled food is less dried out than can happen with a GF and as a result tastier. It's like having an indoor BBQ.As a direct comparison with my recent GFs I also like the removable plate which makes cleaning easier,

I am trying to lose a little excess weight and I thought that this would be a good idea.I was right - to a point!Plug in and switch on and all is well. Drop the food onto the platter and it cooks. Very little oil used in cooking, in fact I am using a few squirts of oil instead of the gallons I was using before. The food is delicious, no doubt about that.So, what not 5 stars?Simple really. It’s too big to fit in my dishwasher with anything else in it, and It won’t fit in my sink, so I end up having to wash it under the shower!The two different griddle plates - one flat and one ribbed - could have been supplied as two plates - that would make a lot more sense. We have previously had various George Foreman grills, and had always struggled with cleaning them. We were looking for one with removable plates, but the GF were all at the very top end - £80 - £100, and then we found this one. We were also pleasantly surprised to see the temperature controls, as again, this was a feature only available on top of the range models in other ranges.While the lack of a top plate does mean that cooking times are extended, which takes some getting used to, the addition of a flat plate area allows you to cook eggs, mushrooms etc and other items that are not suitable for a traditional sloping health grill. I was sceptical about this or any similar griddle as I had used a foldover type a la Heavyweight boxerpreviously which was a pain to clean.This one works really well as our winter barbecue its as simple as that. The temperature range is wide though we cook mostly on 3 as any higher the food/fat tends to spatter a lot. We cook chicken and pork steaks and various vegetables all the time during winter and results are excellent. Done as little or as much as you like.As far as cooking is concerned I have no reservations about this. My reason for 4 stars is that whilst the grill plate is detachable you have to be very careful how you wash/clean it to avoid the electric contacts at one end.

this is a real pleasure to cook on, bbq's are great but i like to sit down and relax when cooking outside, i have found that i have to cook on the highest heat which as its on a thermostat once it reaches high temp starts to cool, you can tell this as the food stops sizzling, i did turn the thermostat down and straight back up again which clicked it back into life and the meat sizzles away again, however last couple of times i have just left it and it doesnt heat back up again within a few minutes of cooling. plenty of cooking space and my best bit is its so easy to clean unlike bbq's. plate and griddle wipe straight off (i do brush a little oil on before cooking)

We've always used cheaper models of this when we go camping etc and they do have the advantage of being lighter and thus save weight when camping, however we wanted something for home and this was definitely the right buy.Temperature control is much more stable, plenty of surface area to cook on and so far easy to clean.I would have liked the top " hot plate " section to have been dishwasher safe but its not however the drip tray underneath is.My ideal would have been for both to be able to be placed in the dishwasher but so far its been easy to clean and the temperature control is excellent allowing floods to be "held " whilst other foods are ready,

This has been used over ten times already. It takes a time to cook some things being a single surface grill but results are consistently good. Even cooking of meats and hot enough not to steam food. Very easy to clean and store (sits perfectly on top of our microwave). Returned a GF grill and got this and another grill (top and bottom type) for less money and really glad I did. We've used this outdoors as well and it takes a wee bit longer due to air circulation around plate but still perfectly portable. Mixed peppers and onions do to perfection on this as do eggs (use egg rings) homemade fish cakes and sausages. Can't go wrong for the price.

I purchased this product a month ago and have been really pleased with it so far It has a good size plate big enough for cooking for the whole family.I like the fact it is a part flat\rigid grill which is great for cooking a variety of foods and one of the main reasons I chose this grill over others.So far ive cooked steaks,lamb chops, sausages, fried eggs, mushrooms, bacon and tomatoes with no problems, it's easy to wash up and heats up quicklyI would definitely recommend it to a friend

So far,so fine, so good.Just got this grill this week and I love it. The test for me tonight was how the steak and mushrooms went, and i have to say i am v impressed. I am a great fan of James Martin, so knew he would not put his name to something that was below par.I have had five GF grills and four of them have gone wrong, three of them with them same problem - the plugs split open.I look forward to using this grill and enjoying and would recommend and it is great value for money

I've tried all the Foremans, and either they have non removable plates and a temp control or vice versa. They were also a *** to clean. The JM by Wahl is simple, cleanable without too much effort and most importantly gets hot enough for any grill cooking requirements with it's large cooking surface. A very clever piece of kit which you can use anywhere.For a change, why not cook your food at the table?. It would make for a much more interesting dinner party.....That is all.

Works great! No fualts with it, apart from the grill being bigger than the flat plate. The picture of the grill shows that you get 50% flat plate and 50% grill. But you get 70% grill and 30% flat plate.Other than that the grill heats up to full in about 15 mins. Easy set up and is VERY light weight!And food cooked on the grill taste great!And cleaning is as easy as picking a packet of crisp off the floor!This is great bit of cooking equipment! Recommend by a chef!

just got my grill and it is fantastic i couldn't live without it now did a barbie on it over Easter as the weather was so bad did steak sausages chicken corn cobs tomatoes all lovely and so easy to clean afterwards just took it off and rinsed it in sink much better than my george forman which is a devil to clean. i am getting a bit of a bore as i kep telling how wonderful my new toy is. definetly recommended this cannot imagine anyone disliking this

Simply plug and play! I have used several types of these griddles at our holiday apartment in Mallorca. This is well designed, easy to clean. It cooks well for up to 4 people from quality steaks to lamb, pork etc. It takes 5 minutes to heat up, and simply leave to cool when you have finished (disconnecting from the electric!). When cool the top and drip tray simply lifts off for easy cleaning.It is so good I shall be disposing of my gas BBQ!

A must have for anyones kitchen, this was purchased purely because i like the idea of cookin a whole meal on one appliance (hell im lazy)...and this pulls it off well from steaks to chicken breast ,fish and even your tomatoes.With 5 different heat settings to choose from and it really impressed me with how fast it reached its desired temp !!For anyone that is looking to eat tasty foods that are just that little bit healthier 5*...

What a great grill to give you an idea of the size you can cook 9 quarter pound burgers on the grill side and 6 chicken breast on the flat side, a little tip add some water just enough to cover the drip tray so it's much easier to clean but the cleaning is a breeze, really like it and nice to cook burgers on the grill side and onions on the flat side, I'd definitely recommend it and i think it's good value.
